ade towell got a reaction from Tulpa in Camera Choice: Cycle Touring Documentary?
Ha I dare you. But yes it is very inspiring stuff, have done a fair few bike packing adventures but this is next level

Ah you should check out his 'One year on a bike' film where he cycled Amsterdam to Singapore. I spent a year in India but mainly on an Enfield motor bike, should have made a film of that, got it on good old mini dv tape somewhere

I think a huge part of what sets Martijn's stuff apart, other than him just being very engaging and charismatic, is the aerial drone footage - seeing him cycling in some of those breath taking locations elevates the visual way above any other one man band adventure stuff I've seen. It immediately looks pro to me
Love Mads Brugger's The Mole in North Korea - I think if your stories need it then for sure stepping into the camera can give scenes more gravitas, changing the dynamic. I'm sure there will be stories you come across that may need this touch, having the instinct to know where and when is part of the film makers skill in this case
Ah don't get me started on Enfield adventures...

ade towell got a reaction from Katrikura in Camera Choice: Cycle Touring Documentary?
I would check out Martijn Doolaard on Youtube, he filmed this on his own with drone and mirrorless camera and phone camera and it is seriously beautiful and high quality visually, and he has a very engaging way. He obviously has a good eye but it's amazing what can be done as a single person. He used a GH5 for this, it was a few years ago, the last 3 years he has been filming himself doing up a cabin in the Italian Alps, I think using a version of Sony A7 and drone. He releases a film each week and again it is beautiful to watch, is both mesmerising, educational, inspiring and medative, good for the soul.Highly recommend

ade towell reacted to mtol in Panasonic Lumix S1R Mark II coming soon
What's the issue with adapter performance? I have the Sigma MC21 and Fotodiox Vizelux EF-L and I haven't had any real issues with either.

Hmm no evf, this seems to be a worrying modern trend.
Other than that I'm sure it'll be great

ade towell reacted to Al Dolega in Panasonic GH7
So.... like almost every camera ever released? They're not starting from the ground up every year or two.
Personally I care about the overall package, its usability, price and the results it delivers. I actually prefer when they re-use body designs as then I can re-use cages and rigging.

I'd be interested to know what feature or capability Fuji could have included that would have prevented the OP from being beyond disappointed and let down.

ade towell got a reaction from Walter H in Panasonic S5 II (What does Panasonic have up their sleeve?)
I think the low DR with the video on Canon mirrorless cameras is also quite disappointing if you're coming from Panasonic - have gone from Canon R6 to the Panasonic S5ii and the increase in DR is noticeable. Had to use the S5ii alongside a Canon R5 recently and the Canon was struggling to keep up. Not sure if DR has been improved in the R3 but I doubt it

ade towell got a reaction from kye in Thoughts on Nikon Z9/Z8 vs. Canon R3/R5(c)?
All well considered points it's just that as you say I think the z8/z9 is the latest and greatest regarding image quality and would be excited to use it - the R5c image to me looks very similar to the R6 I was using a while back, nice but kind of Canon vanilla - more of a sideways step.
Anyway they both shoot lovely footage so can't really go wrong either way

Hey I'm only reporting my friends frustrations - but I do think it is a bit ridiculous that they don't have Clog2 on the R5c it is supposed to be part of the Cinema line and would make matching to their other cinema cameras a lot easier.
I have no scientific proof but imagine the reason they don't have Clog2 in the R5c is because it doesn't have the DR to utilise it fully. Maybe they could create a Clog2 lite like Panasonic did with GH5 and Vlog

ade towell got a reaction from Emanuel in Thoughts on Nikon Z9/Z8 vs. Canon R3/R5(c)?
From what I’ve seen I think the Z8 and Z9 have the best image and colour separation of all the mirrorlerss cameras, there is something special going on there, the R5c just looks like all the other Canon mirrorless, nice image but lacking a bit in DR and slightly noisier. The sensor tech just seems a bit less cutting edge. Canon have always struggled transferring the DR from still into video on their mirrorless cameras. A real shame as it is there in the rest of the Cinema line from the C70 upwards
For me with the IBIS too the Nikon’s are the clear winner. Their lenses also look like they are better suited to video especially if you use AF being almost silent. I always had trouble finding fast affordable Canon lenses that weren’t noisy

Sorry posted at the same time. I always try and buy lenses etc 2nd hand so yes new prices will be much higher.
I think whichever camera you choose will be great there isn't that much between them all. Just feel that the S5ii is the best deal at the moment and size and weight wise it is about right if you plan to use long zoom lenses handheld. And that IBIS is amazing

In the UK there are big cash back reductions at the moment S5ii works out at £1299, that's amazing value and there are great deals with lenses included too
