Kye, i spotted one Russian lens that i own and a couple  of takumars as well i think. Waiting for the moon to come out and play and I have some other ideas that I want to try out with the mirror lens as well. I did enjoy the link that iron films posted as well

We just finished our cinematography reel from some of our favourite images that we have filmed over the past years. Some of the images were captured in the magic of the moment and some were staged with lights etc... SEE YA 2020!

    Happy Holidays!
Since Covid-19 has made shooting possibilities pretty limited, I've decided to shift to micro short films. Here are some test frames using the Canon FD 50mm 1.2 L...

part of my devious plan is to exploit that lightness and pair it with a small light weight camera then mount said contraption on a astro tracker i have.  I presume stars will be out of  " reach "  with f8 but i 'm more interested in catching moon rises and sunsets with some foreground object and time lapse the whole thing. I do have two canon fd  2x teleconverters from the days of film. Been watching for a fd 1.4 teleconverter but their a fair bit pricier than the 2x.
Oddly enough, donuts don't seem to bother me, yet i don't like swirly bokeh, go figure 🙄

There are gear rings included with the 35mm. Not for the 50mm though.
I'm planning to shoot weddings with them next season (if there ever will be a wedding again, who knows). And I just finished writing a 20 page short film that I might make in the next months if I can find enough people who are enthusiastic about the script. And if the fekkin virus and the government let me... Really would like to work with the Sirui's on a real set and project. Which seems like not many people are doing yet.
I know that you can put an oval insert at the back of the lens, but that's apparently not so easy to do. I'm also not quite sure if I would like it. Yes, it would look more 'anamorphic' but I kind of like the 'in between' look that the Sirui 1.33x provides. Makes it more suitable for more types of shooting whereas 2x lenses look instantly more like a (vintage) Hollywood blockbuster.
Let's see how I feel about that after I used them on an actual project.

I get what you mean. It's no vintage 2x anamorphic look with beautiful flares.
But, let's look at it another way. I recently received the lenses and they really surprised me. The build quality is outstanding. All metal. Smooth rings. Nice weight to it. Amazing.
Ok, you won't get the extreme oval bokeh that a 1.8x or 2x lens offers, but since you would use these lenses on 16:9 in stead of 4:3, the horizontal FOV is similar to using the lenses with the bigger stretch. You get a 33% increase in horizontal FOV. That's really what anamorphic is all about. Put a 50mm 1.8x on a 4:3 crop of the same sensor as a 50mm 1.33x on 16:9, and you end up with the same FOV. So no difference there. The horizontal flares are there. Ok they are blue. And the oval curved bokeh is there, especially on the sides of the frame.
So while I get the critics of die hard 2x lovers, I think these lenses don't get the credits they deserve. They are very well built, handle nicely, single focus, plug and play kind of lenses. And when used on 16:9 you get a nice 1:2.37 ratio with a 33% increase in FOV for a given focal length including some anamorphic characteristics.
Just saw a testvideo that really looks great.

Some time ago noone was asking about long lenses. As it turned out i'd just received a canon fd 500mm mirror lens a few days before. While its its taken some time to find some traction, i finally made some progress with a base for the whole contraption. The chinese fd to mft adapter has a more than tolerable amount of play inbuilt. To remedy that i spent the morning measuring and drilling and  more measuring. Surprisingly  it all fitted together and adds a nice amount of rigidity, No more play.  probably due more to good luck than good management.  😉
i added a bubble level i had lying around as the tripod levels are tiny dam things 🙄 Its a bit oversize yet and i have to add the samsung t5 drive to it yet plus i plan on adding a stepper motor for focusing so its an ongoing project. Its useable now, so looking for interesting subjects to video.

A 16mm Kowa and a HCDNA is known as a "best" combo because it's widely talked about and everyone just wants to shoot instead of wasting time experimenting. I can tell you now, that although it's a good combo, there's many other scopes out there that are as good and better for a fraction of the price. I think the same is true with taking lenses, the most talked about ones have been driven up in price, but there's tons out there that will work as good or better if you do some searching. Hey you might even find a combo that gives you a look different to that of the norm  . As said earlier, what camera, sensor and look you're going for all play a huge part, there's no definitive answer to which taking lenses are "cleaner or better" without knowing the other variables.

Phantom is huge, no way I was ever going that way since the 2 Pro image is so competitive. Mavic 2 for me has the best size, small enough to fit on my camera back pack, big enough to have eye contact at most times (I am not very adventurous!).
Image wise, I am quite happy with the 2 Pro, there are the usual well documented issues, but not huge deal breakers. Price was/is another issue though. After the Mini 2, you have to be really committed to invest on the Mavic 2 Pro.
Variable aperture, 10 bit log, 1" sensor (ISO) and the 2 fields of view (this hids a minus and a plus at the same time!), convinient physical dimensions and weight.
I am expecting the new Mavic 3 Pro to be a lot better than the 2, but I am not sure when, and for how much. It can be at the same 1.499$€ price, and the 2 Pro goes down to 1249, certainly the Mini 2 pricing is aggressive, and probably well withing "amateur" use limitations.

Had this happen in town on the showgrounds in the middle of an oval. My third or fourth flight, nobody around except a few blokes from the mens shed who wanted a demo. i had an all clear ready to take off, sent it up about ten meters, then the warning box popped up scared the crap out of me. Cant doing nothing till you click ok. I was in beginner mode which limits you to about thirty meters. So i wasn't doing anything to ambitious, Very annoying. Probably wont send it up anywhere near town in future lol. Don't need the aviation authority bashing down any doors 🙄

I just got a mavic 2 pro. So its its a bit like the empire strikes back 😉
done a few flights, getting used to it.  Seen a few vids where somebody lifts things with the mavic so i  ordered an accessory that mounts a gopro to the top. Darth better be careful or he'll find himself replaced. not so sure about the little anamorphic adapters for the gimbal, which is why i'm trying out the gopro first.

i suspect its an early preproduction ulanzi or maybe a different brand. From the vids i have watched, the demo units had warmer flares with muted blue flares. The production version just have the intense blue flare. Which is kinda sad. Their not a true 1.33 either only 1.15. So that's something to be aware of.  Apparently marketing got it wrong somehow 🙄    This dude talks about it at about 4.13 of this  video https://youtu.be/OYHFwpWCna0

after my reply i thought about the wind buffeting also. i live in a high wind corridor pretty much right on the edge of the great dividing range. I have to go into town later i'll take the gopro and perform some rather unscientific tests. I think there's some grounds here for some collaboration and group therapy 🙂

For anyone looking to have this functionality (and a bit more) without having to buy a specific new gimbal (or any gimbal for that matter), our AFX module launches a week on Monday.
I'm absolutely not going to give the game away before then and say that it also supports manual lenses.
Absolutely not going to spoil that surprise.
