My apologies. You have fair skin indeed then. I'm about nine hundred meters above sea level, its supprizing how easy it is to get sunburnt out here. See it all the time with working backpackers going for their visa extensions working in the fields.

i found this a few days ago. As i have been on a black white binge for a bit. I thought the results were impressive.Ā  Photoshop was used but maybe the principals could beĀ  applied in other programs.

leslie reacted to BTM_Pix in Shooting Internal RAW Video on nearly any camera by means of frame interpolation
The state of the art - which still doesn't actually match the requirement of full RAW shooting at 24fps - would be the Sony A1 which in APS-C mode can shoot at 20fps in compressed RAW with an unlimited buffer.
Not a small price but neither is the requirement.
There is also the matter of the memory card usage and battery life restricting the practical usefulness of it.
The ā‚¬400 160gb CFExpress card will give you five minutes of that 20fps APS-C compressed RAW storage but the bigger issue being the battery on the A1 being rated at 430 shots which will give you about 21 seconds of footage before it gives up the ghost.
It may be that interpolation improves dramatically over the next few years but it will likely still take something fairly high end (i.e. a sports camera) to make it viable because even at a reduced frame rate it will still need a big buffer so until then the closest option is paying ā‚¬7.5K for a camera that shoots just above the frame rate of a Super 8 cine camera and chews memory cards and power at an alarming rate.
There is, of course, a stills camera that exists that gives you a "burst rate" of up to 30fps RAW in full frame with very modest power requirements and far more affordable media where that ā‚¬400 will buy you closer to five hours of footage rather than five minutes.
For about 20% of the price too.
To demonstrate the diminishing returns of stills RAW burst vs internal RAW on the same camera, I've just taken this comparison of an uncompressed RAW in stills mode on my Sigma Fp with the 12bit cDNG RAW frame in cine mode.
For me personally, such differences that are there are definitely insufficient for me to take the ball ache of trying to make the stills mode into a cine mode.

I think we are a million miles from the pro market using a phone as their pro tool. If ever.Ā
Just because it can do some things, seemingly on a similar level, these things do not.
And whilst camera development may be slowing (is it?), it's still going to be ahead of phones.
Phones are gaining more camera tech than cameras are gaining phone tech but I don't see a point where they become one and the same thing.
Sometimes, you just need a specific tool to do a job.

what about one of these ?

not as bulky as the tube based steady camsĀ orĀ  quite so obvious. If a slr balances on it your camera should do it easily. Plus probably less than $30 so its not a huge outlay if it goes pear shaped.Ā
I'm of the opinion that with the rise of youtube you see a lot more people waving cameras and phones around mostly phones but i see the occasional camera, also seen a few of thoseĀ  dji osmo things as well.
I also think if you feel self conscious then it will show. maybe throw on some hi vis and a press shirt... you know face your fearsĀ šŸ˜€Ā
another thing i notice if people are around then they will look, however if their any where near the front of the camera they look everywhere but the cameraĀ Ā

Well itā€™s been ages since I have posted anything. Found this at the supermarket today while shopping. Very nearly bought it, if it had been a 100 iso I would have.

Had a germ of an idea bouncing around upstairs for awhile now. Have had the magic 2 pro out a couple of times in the last Ā two weeks. Webrunners post about the iPhone LiDAR and the p4k has me inspired to do something, not entirely sure what yet.

Yer i should have said an iphone with lidar.Ā  although in reality it seemsĀ  only last two iterations of phones thats that have it then.Ā  Seen some apps that make use of it for measuring and mapping i think. But since i cant see a need for it i'm loathe to installĀ  any appsĀ  onto my phone unless i use it frequently.Ā
Its kinda ironic ( to me at least ) just how much homework you need to do, to keep a handle on things in an effort to save some dollars regardless of hobbyĀ šŸ™„

Its a cheap option only if you already have a late model iphone and electronic lens. Although iphone 13 ultras aren't exactly cheap either. Lucky i have one lying around... knew it would come in handy one day....Ā
So for a whole bunch of lenses that i own, iĀ  would be betterĀ  off with @BTM_PixĀ lidar setup and focus motors. While not cheaper per se ,Ā  its at the momentĀ  probably one of the few options if you travel the path of vintage lenses.Ā
Thinking aloud, it seems to me theres a bit of a fork in the road with lidar you can go down the path with a p4k, vintage lenses and btm_pix's product and focus motors ( and autofocus lenses as well )Ā  orĀ  grab a iphone that has the lidar sensor and use lenses with auto focus. Neither is a particularly cheap path if your starting from scratch, if i'm honest but it is what it is.
Not that i'm saying this stuff is expensive, its certainly cheaper thanĀ  5 years ago and you can do a lot of amazing things with it today.
I guess its a bit of, if it were really easy or cheap everyone would be doing it. Plus anything that gets me inspired to grab the p4k for a change is probably a good thing.Ā
Plus its nice to see some action down in this particular forum šŸ™‚

I looked at various Android options before I went with my iPhone 13 with a view to the photo side, but in the end decided I would rather stay in the Apple ecosystem.
Not because Iā€™m a fanboy (I prefer to buy unbranded products whenever I can and donā€™t like paying a premium to simply be a walking billboard) but rather because it works for me.
I went with the 13 to replace: an 8, a compact everyday camera and a dedicated drone controller.
I prefer the convenience of a phone as my every day camera, but the downside is the ergos/handling/use ability which definitely isnā€™t as nice as even a small ā€˜properā€™ camera.
Still a long looooooong way off any kind of ā€˜phoneā€™ taking over my pro needs and unlikely within the remainder of my career, but all that ā€˜stuffā€™ you speculated about Andrew will come because thatā€™s where itā€™s headed.
Itā€™s not just phone tech that is hurting actual ā€˜realā€™ camera budgets and development but stuff like AI. Perhaps even more so, ie, what is becoming possible with any old shitty footage. Or even no footage and the whole thing is fakeā€¦
Itā€™s not going to take over and dominate for the 10-12 years I have to eke out a living, but I do think the photo industry (as we know it) especially is changing. Thatā€™s just reality and either adapt or die, or find a niche.
If it changes quicker than I anticipate, Iā€™ll just start playing the retro cardĀ šŸ˜Ž

I was once stalked by an emu. true story.Ā  A mate and i were out camping on a another mates property. We'd ventured out for a morning walk and quite enjoyable it was until we heard this deep booming call. It was quite an ominous sound not the kinda sound you can easily forget and straight away you knew it was big.
It was bushyĀ  but it opened up every ten meters or so. These birds are fast, fast as a horse. So it was pretty much, backs against the trees while we kept moving forward after about 5 mins we found a nest with green eggs in it. Never touched the eggs. Took a few photos and kept moving forward, All the time this bird kept calling out, letting us know it was there, after a ten minutes or so the sound died out and we breathed a little easier.
Not once did either of us see it. I will say my mate is a very good hunter, if he couldn't see itĀ  then it didn't want to be seen,Ā  I wouldn't say i was scared, i would say it was one of those times where every sense seemed condensed / focused, even time seemed to slow, not sure how the mind does it but it seems as vivid now as 25 years ago.Ā  Ā
