Well, he certainly didn't invent tacky sunglasses and ugly shirts.

Promo-wear has built-in hype, just because it is part of the fashion industry.  On the other hand, the sunglasses and shirts probably didn't get as much hype as the RED One, which was vaporware for about 3 years.

The RED founder and "hoax" mentioned in the same post?  Oh, the irony...

Some guy made a video about RED's special drives.  I think he noticed something.

If you want pro photo and pro video in one body, this is it. No other camera gives you that, hence the price. As good as the s1h is, I don't want to be fiddling around with external recorders just to get raw. With the weather sealing etc, the places you can take this camera where you can't take others makes it all the more appealing and unique. The price is warranted. This thing is a BEAST.

Yeah best thing about the Canon ecosystem is obviously the EF range. Panasonic only has three lenses out for S1 (two F4 zooms & a 50mm!). The whole alliance thing is meh. Let's not even talk about autofocus performance or the monster sport photography specs. With internal RAW 4K the 1DX3 buries the S1H imho..
    1DX3 Full Specs:
    • New CMOS sensor
    • New Digic processor
    • New AF algorithm with deep learning
    • New AF sensor
    • 28x more resolution than the 1DX Mark II AF sensor
    • Focus over a greater EV range
    • Live View and movie AF with same algorithm as optical viewfinder system
    • Dual Pixel CMOS AF
    • 90 x 100% coverage
    • 525 selectable AF areas
    • New AF point selection control
    • Illuminated buttons
    • Dramatically improved battery life for LP-E19
    • Better ISO performance
    • 10-bit HEIF files
    • 4K 60P
    • 10-bit Canon Log
    • Internal Raw video recording (once again, comes back to CFexpress)
    • Optical finder continuous shooting 16fps AF + AE /
    • Live View continuous 20fps AF + AE (with mechanical or electronic shutter)
    • CFexpress storage
    • 5x RAW burst depth vs 1DX Mark II
    • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (first time 1-series has built-in Wi-Fi)
    • Built-in Bluetooth low energy
    • Built-in ethernet transfer speed 2x fast as 1D X Mark II
    • New optional wireless transmitter will be 2x as fast
    • Weather resistant magnesium alloy body

With the C500 mkII & 1DX3 announcements, Canon is certainly hitting it out of the ballpark on the high-end.

thank you, i loved this movie too. I watched it in the cinemas, and the ending is quite brilliant. I did notice when they switched between the osmo and the red, so did my friends who are not camera experts, but it did not take away from the movie at all.

"put raw data in internal storage media" is not a company intellectual property and shouldn't be. These guys are a bunch of charlatans. Period.

I tried watching the video and got about 10 minutes in and was bored out of my mind at the strange points the guy was trying to make from off handed comments said at Red rallies or on social media.
Honestly, I’ve only half followed this story but, correct me if I’m wrong, Red is evil because they received a blanket patent regarding some form of internal compressed raw? And people are pissed off because this patent keeps them from being able to buy a cheaper camera that has internal compressed raw?
So filmmakers and content creators are against intellectual property, now?
Re: Apple lawsuit against Red... I find it more likely that Apple is using the court system to test the validity of Red’s Patent because Apple wants to purchase Red.
Also, why does everybody suddenly need raw video? Hell, most television shows and movies are shot on ProRes.

I found that video not very impressive to sell a 10k camera , it could have been shoot a A7iii, the colors and the DR look very similar from what I got from the A7iii I had.

Since I switched to a ursa G2 I realized that sony not only have issue with colors, but also with contrast, the skin color range have a lot more of contrast on sony camera, that create a harsh impression of sharpness and make the structures of the facial features more visible, that rarely faltering to anyone.
I get the trend/push for full frame, I like the look, but in restricted professional use it is more of an issue than a bonus, It s much harder to keep things in focus, you need to close more your aperture, so then you either need more light or push your iso....the autofocus will help in some case but still, when it jump focus your take is ruined, I found a subject going slightly in and out of focus less disturbing than a jumpy autofocus.
I find those mid-range full frame pro camera odd, for super high end production why not ( but then you go for a venice/C700/Alexa LF) but for a small crew I have more doubts.

Rigging it up is not a problem for most people. The image quality is still worlds better than anything you can get from something like a gh5. And there are a lot who do use it for paid work. More importantly, it levels the field for indie film-makers like never before. I'm sure the Gh5 is a better in a lot of things, like corporate work (if that is your cup of tea), but image is king imo. Get a T5, external monitor and a power solution and you are good to go. It will still end up being more compact than a lot of other cinema cameras.

I agree with a loy of the article.
BM cameras still have FAR to many issues to be considered for prime time paid work imo, I believe the GH5 is a better option.

Your proving my point.  Imagine what the bmpcc would look like if instead of "upgrading" to the p6k you bought all the stuff and made a great bmpcc rig instead.  Which would win between a p6k with only a cheap lens and a bmpcc with lenses and a rig to the value of the p6k retail price.
And also don't think badly about vintage lenses, the absolute legendary vintage lenses are worth more now than they were new, but everything else is worth a tiny fraction of how much it cost new because demand has plummeted. Vintage lenses aren't 'cheap' they are spectacular bargains

I literally just sold my BMPCC4K to get the Leica 10-25mm f/1.7. I figured the camera wasn't worth my hassle and I much rather have a convenient and awesome lens. ?

On my opinion indy cinematographers would prefer buy BMPCC6K with 35% less money  and have internal Braw , save the money by avoiding buy new lenses(L mount), would  save the money for external recorder (who wants to use that anyway?) and having lack only of Ibis and still shooting capability.

I had this problem with the xc10. They have been screwing people around since long before this on the 24p issue.
But I am sure that canon know more than the likes of Nolan and Scorsese - why would they go to the trouble of pushing a filmmaker mode on the public when you can just shoot 30p -

"Filmmaker Mode will allow viewers to enjoy a more cinematic experience on their UHD TVs when watching movies by disabling all post-processing (e.g. motion smoothing, etc.) so the movie or television show is displayed as it was intended by the filmmaker, preserving the correct aspect ratios, colors and frame rates."
