Papiskokuji got a reaction from mercer in Motion Cadence
    Hi guys !
I’m far away from home right now so I have no footage at my disposal to back up what I’m gonna say, but it’s funny you brought up that discussion about motion cadence as I very recently watched old videos I shot with the RX10 mk II (sold since) and told my self how cinematic motion looked with this camera !
I actually realized it just now and it makes me want to buy one again. It became clear with a piece I shot with both the RX10 and the A7S II. Nothing was wrong with the A7S but the shots with the RX10 looked more « cinematic », more pleasing. To be honest, I don’t know if it vas to do with the RX10 image being softer or if there’s truly some kind of magic involved.
I sold the camera because of its lack of sharpness, and now I want to buy it again for the exact same reason ?
Contemplating the footage from the camera is like having the best of canon and sony. The cinematic distance (again, is it all just do to soft image?) of the old 5D but sharper and free of artefacts with sony’s dynamic range with slog2.
I also have the RX100 mkV and it doesn’t have the same feel.
Another reason might be the form factor. With its super zoom, handheld, with good color grading, the footage reminds me of a super 8mm camera. The other video that struck me about the motion cadence and cinematic feel was a video taken at the back of à train. Maybe it has to do with the movement of the train itself, but the motion is so great ! ?
Anyway, wheither it’s the softness of the image, or the motion going on my shots, or the composition, Motion cadence of the RX10 II has something special. I hope I can upload stuff some time so you can judge by yourself. I was surprised as much as you might be reading those lines !
And maybe it’s a bit of a stretch here but sometimes, RX10 II footage reminded me of my bmpcc ones. The pocket having also a great motion reproduction to my eyes. And weirdly enough, cinematic motion would be more like having less frames than the contrary. Well I guess it’s not that weird...

Papiskokuji got a reaction from kye in How much bit depth? (10-bit / 12-bit / 14-bit)
As Deadcode said, it has more to do with raw than with bits.
I know you tried to push hard the image so it doesn’t apply to you kye, as having a 10 bit file helps with grading no matter what, but I find it always annoying those comparisons about 8 and 10 bits SOOC saying « i can’t see a difference » when you know almost NOBODY has a 10 bit display. 10 bit doesn’t do much of a difference for internet delivery anyway, but there is a difference, especially coupled with a good codec like prores (codec is even more important than bits to me!).

    Hey !
Glad to see you’re enjoying the image, it is indeed so nice ! I think you don’t actually need stronger diffusion. I’ve shot many things, including establishing shots with lots of details that didn’t show any moire and maybe on rare occasions very mild aliasing. My humble guess is it has more to do with the processing of the dngs. In after effects or resolve, you can achieve exceptionnal results (more so in AE but the workflow is a pain!). I don’t know how it works with premiere but i guess there must be some pre baked presets that aren’t optimal in term of sharpness or dynamic range... Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that even if it yields more cinematic images, technically you don’t need diffusion to avoid moire or aliasing !
Can’t wait to see what you do with the 5D !

You chose wisely. Of all these Sony cameras that I owned or used (RX100 IV, V, RX10 II, A6300, A7S II), the one that amazes me the most is the RX100 V. The mark IV is nice, but having this awesome AF allows gimbal work or just not caring about being in focus is worth the upgrade. Its low profile/image quality has no match in any other brand, it is a technical marvel. I'm less forgiving of all the sony quirks (battery life, screen diming, weird WB in slog2) with the other cameras, as they are bigger and tend to be use in a professional environment.

@Andrew Reid Thank you Andrew, I believe that until the release of the camera (you don't have to edit something that doesn't exist yet!) all major NLE will support the codec (it is Canon we are talking about, not some brand!).
can anyone please provide the specific hardware that needed for 10 bit workflows (video cards, monitors, etc). Don't we need specific video cards (BM, Aja, Quadro at least) and specific monitors (that cost thousand of euros, I mean a lot of thousands, not just 1 thousands!)? What else do we need? Are the requirements same for raw?
@Andrew Reid I do not like the new voting system. First of all it is very antagonistic, why do we have to down vote? It will increase hostilities into the forum I guess, and I can not see easily who is up voting/down voting. I strongly prefer the older system.

Papiskokuji reacted to Ed_David in Two Things I've Learned - Shooting 16mm Glass on the Blackmagic MIcro
Shot with the Blackmagic MIcro Cinema Camera with the Angeniuex 12-120mm 16mm lens, a cameflex mount modified to micro 4/3rds.  For color, I brought into Da Vinci resolve and used Filmconvert with a Fuji Eterna film stock and softened it even more to Super16mm softness.  Added a tiny bit of grain and that gave me a great starting point to harken back to a more organic look.

I zoomed in digitally mostly around 20% - and it still was too sharp of an image.
Why not shoot it anamorphic instead?   Well, I am in love with documentaries of the 60s and 70s like Grey Gardens, etc. And they used this lens I think, and it has a certain feel to it that’s pretty beautiful.
Let me know what you guys think of this.

Man, I suffer in silence when I read some stuff here (I guess I'm masochist to keep reading it). But this one is too much for me... On what ground do you think it should cost 2,500$ ? Please tell me. Do you know a video camera costing that price and doing this ? And don't tell me blackmagic please (fan of the brand, but their cameras aren't in the same price range and they are way less reliable and easy to use, and no autofocus, no support) Do you know  a pro 1/3 sensor camcorder costs more than 2500$ (Sony, Canon) ?. It might not be the camera for you, that I totally understand but with all due respect, I think your comment is from a spoiled naive non pro shooter who doesn't know the requirements of pro work and on being on the field with reliable equipment.
People always complain, at some point it's just ridiculous. They want new technology right away, but when Sony releases a new camera too soon, they think theirs just became obsolete and hate Sony for it. In the mean time they blame Canon for holding off. And now they unleash something very unexpected from them, still complaints. Same goes for bitrates. Canon files take too much space, now they want that kind of bitrates in their gh5, and they're suddenly ok with the file size. And all that to end up posting videos on Youtube (which is not a bad thing but just all those concerns are irrelevant for that type of delivery).
Anyway, this camera seems to be freaking great. Canon used to deliver not on specs but on the field and with the image quality/mojo. Now this one also has the specs ! Granted an intermediate codec is more than necessary for a camera at this price point, but it will come down the line anyway.
Pffiou, sorry I had to get it out of my chest  Now I can burn in hell !
