  1. DVD will never die! People still need physical proofs of their buy. Why don't you give password protected USB sticks, and send the password 12 hours after the end of the festival? Better than writing 1000 DVDs.

  2. I don't know.. I haven't been into computer tech that much lately, but seriously, if anyone has an advice, be my guest.

    My Xeon 1234v2 is 22mn/4 cores/8 threads/8cache/max frequency 3.7/69w and the new  i7-7700 14nm/4 cores/8 threads/8 cache/max frequency 4.2/65w.

    Considering that I have to change EVERYTHING, for a new system, I am not that confident about built one right now.

    The worst part on my PC is the GTX660, will a 1060 or 1070 gives me anything, until I wholy upgrade late 2017, early 2018?

    maybe these are interesting to some, there are infinite such lenses, and sure a lot can be found for good prices as a lot of people changed to dSLRs and EF and other mounts in the last decade, I am not sure about compatibility though.

    I sure would love to use this camera with the new Sigma zooms though, something not unheard for these price ranges (camera+lenses https://www.ducloslenses.com/products/sigmazoomset)

  4. @webrunner5 ...and you can do most things C100markII does (except low light performance and Dual Pixel AF, sorry!) and you can go the extra mile and play with  4.6K/60fps raw!!

    EF/PL/B4 (imagine the possibilities on this!) and Nikon mount is coming (with smooth aperture ring!). It is a well thought move, it's ticking a lot of boxes for some, but most people will go with the low light performance and best AF. Still there is a market for this Ursa, more than the previous ones.

    Also,  "Blackmagic is also generously offering an upgrade to owners of the full-sized URSA for $3,495, allowing existing users to keep their original URSA and get the new camera at a heavy discount" that is unbelievable!

    You can just sell the big one for a few thousands and get the new one! It is a no brainer I guess..

Ursa pro mini is not a one-off camera, people will buy those to stick in the long term, being from basic (but with advanced hype) productions right now with the SD cards, a better production later on with the CF cards, and a feature with the recorded on the back. This is the selling point of the mini, and it is all over their site, as they do not stress enough how possible is to do it all with this camera (including studio work).

    First of all the lower spec-ed Reds or the older ones aren't that competitive to the Ursa with the 4.6K sensor right now; this Ursa upgrade is hugely on the right way that will attract all those considering buying a used Red (with I do not know how many hours on the sensor), and Alexa (and the best of the Reds) are so far ahead that aren't even an option.

    Do you know how many top Red and Alexa cameras people own? Less than you think, most are belonging to rental companies.

  6. @Shield3 Most of the pro ML people probably have no ML experience, and also are not professionals depend their life on the things they shoot.

    If you just do your hobby and have plenty of time to play with your friends, ML 5d3 is exceptional and instantly moves you to the "big boys image" (but BlackMagic for that matter too), for pro work etc C100mrkII is the best (but not 4K, so I would be reluctant to buy one right now). 

  7. @mercer Who is buying a NEW Pocket these days? You have to see the market as it is, not as you would like it to be. Personally I know dozens of people owning C100s and just 2 own a Pocket. Even if it sells more than the two I know, it would have sell more in Greece than the pocket (joke)!

    Ursa mini pro has a lot of uses, if it works well, it will sell "well", the only issue is the possibility to be lost in "no man's land". As I said before, dual pixel AF of Canon and Variable ND of Sony are the two most coveted features these days and their image quality is adequate for most things, plus their fan and users base. 

  8. update: I just did an experiment with a -similar to your problem- file I have (the only one I ever had any problem in both NX1 and NX500, except that huge one that I forgot to stop recording), it analyzed the file alright, I believe it transcoded right, but then I had to make it a whole file with ffmpeg but I had issues doing so. The sound wasn't synched, the image was playing properly, last few minutes didn't work at all...

    If anyone finds a better work-around please share.

  9. @jonpais this is a silly notion and first time I heard something so crazy like this.

    Their products just lacked in very essential links of the whole chain that is a video production.

    Most people were enthusiastic about them, exactly because they were "cheap", but most realized than it wasn't so, when you were adding everything to shoot in a good and efficient manner. Add delays, QC problems, promises couldn't keep etc

    We have mention half a dozen of each, above in various posts. 

    This camera is their most complete, it will sell more, it still lacks some serious stuff though, and if you put everything together for maximum performance the price adds up a lot, most people will go for a FS7 or C300mkII.

    If you want to take it lightly and use SD cards, and no EVF, and find the cheapest battery solution (and do NOT need the fricking handle!) then it can compete for lower tier ones (FS5/C100ii). 

    It is somehow in the middle, very dangerous spot to try to market your thingy!

  10. Exactly @Andrew Reid , everything was exciting about Bm those days, but remember all the hassle, delays, quality control problems and unlimited complaints on the forums and real life. 

    The company is maturing, we will see great things from them, it is one of the best feel good video stories ever, how they evolved and eventually you can have a full Black Magic workflow in every video product possible from a corporate to a feature film.

    That is not a small feat. but again, you see that we are looking at the big picture (literally, motion pictures!), in this industry the ability to shoot a competitive feature film is the final frontier, and that establishes the players.

    In my opinion, since the beginning Black Magic were making products for pros, and that is how I perceived the Pocket as well (as a B or C cam to other Black Magics), you can't mix and match demanding video files with amateurs. It is a toxic mix!   

  11. @mercer Look at #3 that was mentioned in the first post anyway. All these limitations ("why you shoot a 4 hours performance?", "why you used bigger batteries", "why you needed a rig" etc) make my point, and here I have to quote myself for people have problem reading ALL the words in posts

    Video companies are becoming more specialized because not a lot of people will be buying exotic video cameras with additional equipment to run, and not amateur friendly codecs; and the worst part is that they are NOT taking photos. How many are these specialized amateurs that will create a buying buzz (and absorb the R&D and marketing funds) for a completely new video camera? 

    My impression was that pocket was good for a lot of indie people (I have seen a few around Europe) but never was the "pocket" camera its name promised. "

    Good specialized camera, for SOME, it is a niche camera, is great, I like it very much, after using it a few times I would never spend money on it. My opinion is that this Ursa announcement is the first truly great BM camera. Just my opinion.

  12. I am expecting a C100markIII announcement, or else I see myself going for the FS5, the variable ND filter is a good reason as it is already. 

    In the end, as I see it, even a JVC LS300 for 3000euros (we already have one) is great to bring some bread on the table and the budget can be spend on lights and/or some sound equipment (Zoom F4 anyone?!) to complete my set.

    This announcement is quite exciting, but I do not see taking too many customers from Canon and Sony, even though they will definitely take some. This camera seems like a work-sheep, not a work-horse.

    I am waiting for the first reviews and future announcements from other companies, just hope to push Canon and Panasonic make a move, at last.

    I just can't understand how Panasonic is out of this game with a Varicam Ultra Light Tiny, C100/FS5 killer!

    1) I brought 3 NX cameras and 2 go pro cameras to that production, and didn't have any problem at all about what they did,

    2) the guy I paid to bring his C100ii with the 18-135 (to have it as a central cam), showed up with the pocket (so he had to go to a corner)

    3) the camera as it is, is completely useless, have you ever tried to use one, out of your pocket?

    4) The performance took almost 4 hours, how did you expect to run the cameras with? 39 original batteries?

    5) As I said, it was "unnecessary", the camera operator didn't give me any other chance.

    6) A camera the same size as a FS5 has ND filters, ergonomics, real batteries ON them, XLR cables (I needed the C100ii to cable the sound from the console, and one shotgun, and finally I used a EX1 we had as backup for the XL connections, totally random, but it saved the day, almost 10 years after we bought it for a documentary shot in Paris, and 2 of the cards were the original ones!) and some things that professionals know and understand (even Andrew implies that pocket has mainly targeted amateurs, semi pros). 

    You ever think that just maybe, your lack of communication/understanding, and reasoning/logic can be the problem, not others?

    All the above are some of the reasons why the Pocket was never a pocket camera, and it needs a lot of rethinking to make it truly successful, while GH5 and such cameras are lurking in the corner.

    During the summer he updated his H264 tool to finalize a 74minute file (I forgot the 73minutes time limit!) I sent him and he was super friendly and super capable.

    Ask him, and report back for details, as back then he didn't support H265 at all, he was just experimenting with some files I sent him!

    I am editing a project with the pocket right now, the whole rig was huge, the second -huge- battery didn't work and my friend lost the last 40 minutes of the performance we were recording and the video files were unnecessary big for such a low budgeted project (80GB for the pocket, and 60GB for the NX cameras with at least 40 minutes additional footage!) and the other cameras we had were around 40-50GB.

    Great image, but it was somehow out of place in my opinion. Great idea, poorly manufactured.

    If they can really make it a great portable pocket camera, then I will reconsider!

    This Ursa is the most interesting camera they ever produced, and the fact that it is available right now is a statement that this time they are really serious.
