I had to stop watching the Canon faux-live feed. It was torture!

All I shoot is 30+ minute videos! 🤣

Maybe I wasn't clear, I'm saying its not going to ship for weeks, so people can make a decision whether or not to keep an order based on reviews and downloading files to see if they're happy with the IQ and workflow and any dealbreaker gotchas. Sorry if that wasn't clear - I don't play the return window tester game, most of my gear is bought used anyway to avoid paying full price.

I never returned any product I bought, isnt it a weird way of thinking. Buying something, testing it and if you dont like it return it? What happens to the product, does it get sent back to canon to be inspected and branded refurbished or do they just sent it to somebody new. Strange that this is legal, its like those people buying an expensive dress, go out and return the dress. Sorry for the off topic rant.  

Everyone is lining up to buy the camera purely based on specs. There are so many intangibles yet to be learned:
Rolling Shutter Dynamic Range Highlight Roll-off Detail in the shadows (Are the blacks crushed?) Flavor of CLOG How strong is the low pass filter (Maybe great for skin, but maybe not so good for when you need detail.)? ISO limitations before noise becomes a factor (Especially important when shooting at high frame rates like 120p) Record length limitations I really hope this camera is as good as it looks on paper. I want one if the quality of the footage is there! But what happened to the Canon cripple hammer? Is it gone or does it still exist.
 
 

Also hoping that the C-Log is also C-Log 2 and/or C-Log 3. 
Regular C-Log just doesn't have the DR that the others allow.

Well we know when the embargo lifts, so there will be insane blogger hype from the moment its announced...
 

What specifically makes you want to go back to a DSLR (just DSLRs, or do you include mirrorless too?) for shooting with? As this is kinda odd to want to go backwards to a DSLR (especially as you're not into photography). What exactly makes you "regret bitterly" that you bought the blackmagic?

If you can nail down these answers, it would be easier to figure out what is the best cameras for you to consider. 

A great loss, prolly the greatest music film composer ever.  wished I could have seen him live once.

Nah they were paid to do a release video to show when the cameras were released. (At the time I found it strange that they hired Philip Bloom for it as he is more of a docu style shooter, but he pulled it off nicely)

They also do support filmmakers too.  My friend was able to trial the c200 for free back then to shoot on one of his job from Canon NZ. Though he dont do youtubes and just starting doing podcast this year, as not every filmmaker is comfortable in front of the camera.  He was able to get hands on the R5, the only 2 in NZ!  Unfortunately i cant get info from him due to NDA but seems someone else leaked some info anyway.

Nobody said that he was the only one, but he is at the live event so I think it is safe to asume that at least he got one already. 
Seem they invested in popular social media figures instead of filmmakers that shoot shortfilms/commercials,  or maybe not. We will see. I do miss those years where camera's were given to "Vincent Laforet" for the C300 commercial, or Philip Bloom for the GH3 commercial,... those were the kind of video's that made me want to buy the camera's. (and I did)

yeah would love to see a side by side with a pocket. But I guess the current owners from RED komodo's arent allowed to do so right now. 

We will see.  I will go with Sony or Canon depending on which camera is better.  Maybe neither one if they are just spec cameras.  The proof will be in image quality.
Sony will have to jump in the 10bit world and 4K 60p crop is what we might get.  I think release dates will be 2 years apart with lots of firmware updates to keep people from jumping to a new brand. 
 

I can understand why RED does want to be a bit selective and doesn't want REDCODE on an ARRI or Sony F65 for example
But the mirrorless cameras are no competition and actually compliment the larger A-cams on most shoots.
So to be able to use one or two of them with the same codec as the Komodo or latest RED A-cam would be ideal.
I have an interview coming with Jarred Land of RED but he is taking his sweet time to reply  Very busy. I'll keep trying to encourage him that this is a good idea, whenever I get the chance.
It really would be wonderful to shoot REDCODE on both a Komodo and something like an EOS R5.

Biggest difference is that 10-bit   H265 hammers PC's even with hardware decode. Prores just plays like butter. I run a RTX 2080 and it struggles on heavy grades in resolve with Fuji footage.

I have H265 footage from my Drone and its a pain to playback and grade in DaVinci Resolve.  With BRAW, thumbnails load quickly, smoother playback even after grade, less likely to crash when working with the files.  
When you're working multiple large projects on a deadline, codec isn't so much about image quality as it is about an easy time in the editing suite.

Prores raw has the same problem though, you cannot use it in davinci resolve.

External recording though. For me buying a tiny camera and then adding a lot of bulk around it(charging even more batteries), isnt for me. Then I rather have a bigger camera that I dont need to rig up.
Allthough good news that braw is starting to move around to more cameras. Maybe on the next iteration they can do it internal.

Still not compelling, in my opinion, until there is a ninja star type of device for this compressed RAW external recording. Just not worth the effort, for me that is, over a solid high bitrate 10-bit 422.
I wonder if S1H will see BRAW support in the future? They share a sensor with the fp, no?

Canon should counter-troll Sony and push the announcement date after Sony, who moved theirs to after Canon. Imagine an infinite cycle.
