What disappoints you, what were you hoping for?
40MP and IBIS seems very cool!
And for the video geeks, 10-bit 6.2K 30p, 4K 60p, or FHD 240p video recording.
Built in 4 stop ND filter is nice too.
Being able to work with Frame.io is another new thing too.

As I'm sure you know and you just misspoke, you need an external drive for 12bit 4K, not an external recorder. You can shoot internal 12bit 1080p, but ML Raw has an undeniably better IQ, in all respects, than the FP's FHD.
I agree about the IBIS, but I don't really see a point for ML Raw with the R5? You can already shoot internal raw. But all of the Canon IBIS cameras are Digic X, so it will be a long time before they break that code.
It will be interesting to see what they can do with the EOS-R and hopefully the M50. I'd actually be really happy if they were able to enable continuous MLV raw on the 5D4.
But I'm still really impressed with what the 5D3 with ML Raw and a Canon IS lens is capable of handheld. So maybe I'm just easily impressed.

Allthough you need an external recorder. (something I don't like because it makes the setup too big and defeats the joy for shooting for me). + the IBIS is not to be underestimated.

But the sigma FP does have an nice image.

Its gonna be way easier to direct the AI then it is to direct shitty actors. AI is improving at lightning speed, in 5 years time you can create high end car commercials from your bedroom, just based off your visionboard/storyboard, no need to gather a crew, fly across the world, lock off roads, rent gear, ... they prolly need to introduce new laws, as its easy to bypass specific location laws now.

    Some tough love.
They will always suck.  There is no such thing as a good one.  The way they work is by degrading your image. The sooner you accept it the better.

I long ago went to straight or internal ND. Do I occasionally use VND? Yeah.  But I can count on one hand the number of times in a year.
I suspect you need to hear this because you wrote a post about it.  Not everyone will agree but throw away the crutch and never look back

    So...

I was diagnosed with kidney cancer on September 5. I had my right kidney removed on October 13 and am now cancer free (and if my scans show nothing in April I'll be considered cured!). During that entire period though, I didn't do any jobs and just focused on recovering, but had decided to dip my toe back into the water and had a small job planned for a friend this week.

As I was just going through my equipment in preparation of getting back into the swing of things my pup Teri knocked over my main S5 and IT BROKE. Now, it doesn't impact my job because I have two extras of the same cameras, but obviously it left me needing to get a new camera. Sooo...
I bought the Lumix S5IIX instead of getting another used S5. I swore I'd never buy a camera brand new again, but the used price isn't that much less, and I was able to get a decent deal on it with a lens. With all I've been through (having my kidney removed was, without a doubt, the most painful thing I've ever experienced, just FYI) I figured I'd treat myself.
This is a long way to ask a couple questions while I wait for it to arrive tomorrow:
    1. how easy is it to match the original S5 straight out of camera or with a little tweaking using the standard or natural color profile? I will use log, but for certain jobs it's just easier to skip that part.
    2. why is there no third party battery grip? has anyone heard why?
    3. I have a couple third party batteries. Wasabi and Newmowa brands. Has anyone encouraged any problems with third party batteries? I have like six OEM batteries but I've heard the S5II and S5IIX's battery life isn't as good as the S5.
    4. what are the best settings? I've seen tons of YouTubers but I'd prefer to hear it from people that do more than film themselves in their spare bedroom/garage and actually are out there getting the most out of their camera.
    5. This one is most important: I just want you all to know I love you all. My ordeal has given me a greater appreciation for life, the interactions I have with other human beings, and just everything, really. Thank you @Andrew Reid and everyone else that makes this place special.

I have not seen oppenheimer, but this is something I have thought about movies in general. The dialogue is allways so clear and loud and constant throughout movies.
And while cinematography is always a style choice to overlight/underlight something, where in some films or shows most is black (I remember the game of thrones hate). For voice audio it is not so the case, everything is allways so unnaterally clean and clear.
Maybe I am alone in this, as I have tinnitus and have this problem in real life, where I often don't hear what anyone is saying and have to ask to repeat it because the dialogue clip of a person is not mixed out like in the movies.
But yeah I can imagine it beeing super annoying, having an actor deliver a line and while watching the movie (without lip readers) nobody can make up what the character just said. (Maybe in that case just op for a show don't tell kinda approach).

I once accidently left the stabilizer of my Canon zoom on and it messed up my dolly shot. Many, many, many years ago.:) So yes, turn that thing off! I like to remember that it was an accident though when I left mine on.😂

This is the exact reason they made the GH5S.  It was a non-IBIS companion to the GH5, designed to be used on gimbals and other mounts.

    Hi guys,
Something that annoys me so much is whenever you render individual clips in davinci resolve and are using a adjustment layer, it does not render the color grade from the adjustment layer (unless you make compound clips from each clip).
Does anybody have a fix for this? If not would be a good feature request for bm.

    cheers

Same, the Classic sensor in a komodo sized package would be a blessing. They were able to drastically reduce the size while increasing the size of the sensor and frame rates with the mini in 2015. I would think 8 years later they could probably further reduce the size and power draw especially using the Classic sensor. Definitely not going to happen as ARRI only serves the biggest industry clients who it wouldn't appeal to.

@zerocool22 You can stay cool, Braw is over hdmi only, to an external recorder. 🙂 That´s with both, the S5II and the S5IIX as well.

I have some more good news and spoiler alert: You may want to get the paid RAW update.

BRAW is now completely fixed it seems. No more sharpening, no more filtering and mushy textures.
Instead more texture, both luma and chroma than recording internally and at least 1-2 stops of more usable latitude since the shadow areas are clean now and highlight recovery seems to give one extra clean stop of highlight range.

    BRAW with highlight recovery

The X-H2S would be a good option if you don't want to have to sell and buy all new lenses. If you don't mind changing systems then the S5ii is, in my opinion, the most compelling camera in that price range for what you're looking to do. It has good autofocus and the best stabilization of the bunch. You can't beat Sony's lens selection though. L-mount is catching up but still is a bit behind.

Forum member @essbe mentioned this in another thread, but I think it deserves it's own topic.
Magic Lantern developer theBilalFakhouri is showing compelling evidence that he has figured out how to implement full real-time preview in most raw recording modes across the EOS-M, 100D, 650D, and 700D. Live HDMI output is supported across all recording modes too. Many have found that these are the last two major usability hurdles for these cameras. He is trying to crowdfund £2,214 (about $2750 USD) for the 300 hours he's spent figuring this out before he releases it, and says that he will begin work on full real-time preview on the 5D iii after this campaign gets funded. As of this morning, he's about 2/3 of the way to his goal, but donations have slowed down significantly over the last 24 hours. If you'd like to pitch in, instructions on how to contribute are in the link above.
I haven't used either of my ML-enabled cameras in about three years, but this feels like it could be the final chapter in ML history. I would love to see it succeed and keep some of these cameras out of landfill as well as to provide the next generation of broke filmmakers with a truly affordable 16mm/S16 raw camera.
