Stanly got a reaction from Jerome Chiu in Canon RF Mount Red Komodo Style Camera On the Way?
Same can be said Blackmagic Pocket, Sony FS5 or Komodo. You can also adapt without a focal reducer to a7S III, Panasonics, FX9 or use natively on Canon EF cameras.
RF mount is not the only solution for EF glass – RED, Blackmagic, Sony & Panasonic with adapters all work with EF glass.
"Ok so a lot wrong with this." "your statement is quite misguided and not very well thought out" – thanks for being so harsh without understanding my comments. I was talking about unique selling points of RF mount cameras: they are the only ones working with RF lenses.

So the red komodo for 1500 dollars more is going to have:
1, True internal Redcode raw at 8:1 in mq mode and 4-3:1 at hq mode
    2, Internal 4k and 2k prores recording
    3, Global Shutter
    3, Much better dynamic range
    4, 6k
    5, Red ipp2 colorscience
5, Better lowlight then the c200

However, the canon is going to have:
    1, Internal nd filters
2, full sensor 4k 120 compared to cropped 4k60 on the komodo
    3, canon c series reliability
    4, Better DPAF
    5, 1500 dollars cheaper

Personally I don't see the point of the canon, since the a7s3 will blow the canon's image quality and usuability out of the water, while being 1000 dllars less, in a much smlaller mirrorless form factor. At least the red has global shutter and internal raw and 6k. The canon just sound like another 1dc all over again.

Why would I want an RF camera for besides using RF glass for it, which is full frame? That is the unique selling point of RF mount camera, how does crop sensor make any sense? Adapt EF lenses? Why not go for c200 then? Or may be a7S III, which is more capable and full frame?
I chose my wording having that in mind: "no substitute for what R5 was promised to be" 😅 R5 was supposed to be video all the way as well, and a proper RF camera too (Full Frame, just as the lenses).

What's the point of having RF mount with Canon having only FF lenses on it? They need to make a FF version of this camera and it would be pretty sweet. Especially if they add PDAF and IBIS from R5/6.
Though with adapter I could use my trusty Sigma 18-35 with it.

Well they did base it on a design of a hybrid 20D  and 5D.
Just not the ones people were expecting.

The NFS tests are very interesting, especially Test #2 where 1500 photos were taken before switching the R5 to video mode & they still got over 17 minutes of 10-bit 8K recording.
That particular test seems to kinda contradict Gerald’s tweet about not having a single second of HQ video after shooting stills for an hour.
Speaking of Gerald, he did a 3 hour live stream about R5/R6. I haven’t had time to watch it but just happened to skim through it and he addressed Dan Watson’s A7S3 vs R5 overheat results. He kinda cops out by saying their pre production Sony units may be different and then suggests to Dan to redo the test with the Sony camera -in the shade- as he admits direct sunlight may not dissipate heat correctly on the Sony.
Perhaps he should be the one to take the A7S3 out in the sunlight to corroborate or not Dans results.

Call me paranoid if you want, but I think the overheating of the r5 and r6 is quite a marketing trap. I have already seen several videos where it is mentioned that heating occurs at very different times and several times they have said that the camera is cold to the touch (or at room temperature).
In my view, I believe that overheating is a limit set by Canon through software, I do not think it is a real hardware problem. Canon blocked the camera with a false heat alarm to generate all this debate and controversy on the matter. Then in a few months they will fix it with a simple firmware, because the problem is that, only software. In this way Cannon earns a couple more months of free advertising for his latest product.
If the camera can only be fixed by firmware, I would be very inclined to this theory (in my opinion) and would stop believing Canon. It is all very strange.

But hey, it's just my theory.

Could also say Canon puts Sony to shame with an IBIS so much better it looks like 5y technology difference, with much better body and ergonomics, no crop in 4K120, an more importantly actual stills capability (VS 12mpx, it’s not 1990).
Everything is relative. We all have different needs. Neither products are bad in this case. Except the overheating if indeed the R5 can’t record a video after 30 stills (I still have a hard time believing that) and that Canon doesn’t do anything about it.

Im not sure this is representative of the facts. The crop is only for the very high frame rates. For normal shooting, there is no crop at any resolution... As far as I understood anyway.

From my understanding 8k and 4k are not  cropped but scaled at least from the product page.
So you should get 4k, 8k and 12k all raw and the same field of view that makes it much more practical.

While 20 mins overheating times in certain modes are a bummer and could be a problem for some people, I for one, am glad they took the “lets put the feature in” versus saying “heat limitations wouldn’t have allowed it” and released something less exciting or groundbreaking. They would haven been lambasted for it either way.
It’s a lose-lose for them and they made the better decision here in my humble opinion.
Wether the headline is “R5 falls short: only offers 4K60p cropped” or “R5 has potential to overheat when recording 8K RAW(!) 4K120p(!), or oversampled 4K from 8K HQ mode(!). The later headline is forgivable!

    The R5 will only overheat in 8K, 4K60p & 4K HQ.
It shouldn't have any problems in regular 4K24p/30p.
Calling it unusable is a little extreme. What other hybrid camera can even approach these specs? 8K/4K120p FF no crop, DPAF2, RAW, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal.
Besides we've had 30mn recording limits for years due to EU laws. Hardly an issue for me personally..
That said, if Sony can do better, bring it on!

To put some reality in to the crippling story, I really think that this time Canon did the max that was possible in a FF weather sealed fan less hybrid DSLR.
There is no other Full Frame camera < 10k usd that come close to these rumored specs

Full frame camera that can record internally  > 5k RAW 60fps + good video AF:

Canon C700 FF >33k usd  (only with optional codex recorder 7k >usd)

Alexa Mini LF > 58k usd
    Alexa LF > 98k usd

Full frame camera that can record internally  >= 4k 30fps 10bit 4:2:2 LOG + good video AF

    Sony FX9 11k usd
    Canon C700 FF >33k usd
    Canon C500 II 16k usd

Alexa Mini LF > 58k usd
    Alexa LF > 98k usd
    Panasonic SH1 4k usd

Naturally this is based on rumored spec and it just a spec comparison only, image quality, ease of use and job suitability is another story.
Again if you are video only a C200 or FX9 or C500 II is probably a better investment, for hybrid shooter like me it seem a huge upgrade from 1Dx II for video.
Then maybe in a week Sony announce the famous ready to launch since 2018 A7s III with 6k RAW at 60 fps with AF for 3.5k usd, but right now there is really nothing close.
