Grimor got a reaction from mercer in which gimbal for my old 7D?
For me, dual Ibis 2 and glidecam its a killer combo.
G85 + Hd2000 give me stunning footage and no need those modern electronic gimbals.
If you own the camera you have to put a quickplate on glidecam and make little marks on it for a very fast balance on the field.
Just put your camera-plate on the marks and only fine tunning is needed for a perfect balance. In less than 5 minutes you are ready to shoot.
More wide lens = more smooth shoot.
More f (aperture number) = more image on focus.
Practice and try to keep the distance!

I'm a big fan of the A/B test. Meaning put on your favorite scene from your favorite director (Scorsese, Coppola, Spike Lee, whoever)... and then put on the last thing that you've shot. What are the differences?
The low-hanging fruit are things like sensor size and resolution, followed by dynamic range, bit depth, and motion cadence. Then you move on to lenses, lighting, and camera motion. Then there's color-correction. Followed by production design, locations, and costume choices. And, finally, talent.
The "look" of your project results from a confluence of all of these things. As you start out, almost none of these will be comparable to your favorite films. But you can pick them off one-by-one. Start noticing things. Get better. Over time you'll inch closer to your idols.
Stu Maschwitz, one of the minds behind Red Giant Software, has been writing about getting a film look out of digital tech since the MiniDV era, then designing products to help you achieve it. Lots of insights in his archive.

After a few more tests yesterday I can safely say that even if it looks way too reddish at first sight, i wouldn't pass up too quickly on it. I finally managed to find a proper correction for the GX85 white balance. A1 M1 works for me. On top of that I'm finding useful to underexpose a bit, working with zebras at 70% and exposing for faces details instead of zebras at 100% and trying to preserve highlights. If you just expose ETTR you almost always clip the red channel which turn faces and skin into a bit of a mush. My 2 cents.
PS: I'm also dialing down the LUT mix to about 80%.

Grimor reacted to aldolega in New information regarding H.265 on the Panasonic GH5
I think it's important to remember that h264 has many flavors for different applications, and at this point they are all pretty mature, and have been tweaked and tuned and tested for almost a decade now to their maximum potential; some for consumer applications where low bitrate/easy en/de-coding is priority over IQ, and some for prosumers/pros who demand quality and have the hardware/software to work with the higher profiles and bitrates. Look at the difference between stock GH2 and the mature hack settings; both are h264, but the tuned settings are undoubtedly better quality.
h265 is new and mostly the only implementations I know of outside of the NX1 have been video chat, mobile platforms etc where again low bitrate and easy en/de-coding are the priority. The NX1's h265 implementation seems decent for a first go, certainly better than early h264; but the bitrate hacks have shown it can be improved, and (AFAIK) the present hacks are only allowing a higher bitrate, not tuning/altering the encoding itself. So when the camera companies' engineers (and hopefully hackers, if they are able to get deep into the NX1 or another h265 camera) start going to a higher bitrate and tuning/tweaking the encoding implentation itself: I think there could be big gains made.

and it even gets worse when you use stabilized lenses as those will draw power from the battery as well but a advantage a g80 has is that you can add a battery grip to extend battery life, I gladly will trade in battery life for stabilization in the sensor though.

Leeming posted in the Facebook group for the LUT that he had gotten ahold of some G85 footage, and that for the purposes of the LUT it was the same, and to use the existing G7/GH4 LUT.
Which makes me skeptical of either people's claims of the newer cameras having better color, or of his testing methodology. I don't see how both can be true (new different color science and the same LUT giving identical results).

Grain and Noise are two entirely different things.
There have been a few posts here before about the benefits of the appropriate use of grain for both technical and aesthetic reasons. As for grain degrading an image? - the opposite effect can often be true. For example, an appropriate application of grain can give a perceived impression of extra sharpness and detail to an image:

This topic is about video exposure. Auto exposure, manual exposure, ND-filters, exposure tips, exposure tools, different exposing styles and looks, old rules and new ways, etc.
Not about favorite lenses or audio or only for very talented film makers.

Grimor reacted to Nathanael McKinley Myton in How do you set exposure for video?
@Jon Jacobs Auto-ISO in M mode is a frequently requested feature among still photographers, and many other camera manufacturers have had it for a long time. It has a number of useful applications. For example, when shooting sports on a field with some variation in light (shadows in an area of the field), you could set your shutter speed to capture the action without motion blur, aperture to ensure enough DOF, and allow the camera to adjust ISO for a proper exposure.
And if you can accept that auto exposure (P, S, or A mode) is ever acceptable for videography, then surely you could think of a use for it in video. Set shutter speed at 1/50, aperture for whatever DOF you're looking for, and then allow the camera to moderate ISO to keep a proper exposure. But it seems like you're of the mind that any time someone is shooting video with a DSLR they can NEVER use any form of auto exposure in any circumstance. I think that's a bit short sighted, but I guess you feel pretty strongly about it.

I'd be curious to see a GH4 vs. G85 shootout on moire/aliasing, and IQ in 1080p modes (because of the G85's much lower bitrate), especially for shots with lots of motion.
The reports of the EM1II being soft in every mode other than C4K has killed my interest in that camera.
