So after using this recorder a bit I can safely say I am not happy with using it in a professional environment.

    1) You cannot have a LUT applied out of the HDMI or the SDI. Which is absolutely INSANE and a pain in the ass in a live event environment if your trying to match the look to another camera. This feature is on all of their camera's but not their recorder?!?

    2) Viewing aids do not come up easily, you need to go through the menu every time you want to ad or remove a focus or exposure aid. They are completely impossible to use quickly.
Given these issues, I might be looking at selling it, I'm kinda pissed I didn't catch these issues until after my return window has passed.

Well shortly after posting that I re upped my preorder. Because this still looks far better than the Atomos options.
Thankfully it looks like there are some signs that it will shortly be released:

    1) On blackmagic's website they just posted "Blackmagic Video Assist 3.0.1 Update" Firmware, which I don't think they would release unless it was coming soon.
    2) On the B&H preorder page you can now download the Installation and Operation manual, and the first page is labeled  as being created "January 2020"

@Video Hummus The Laowa Argus lenses will be primes.

@Stab There are a few longer S35 zoom lenses:
    Sigma High-Speed 50-100mm T2 Angenieux EZ-2 15-40mm T2 Angenieux EZ-1 30-90mm T2 Fujinon Premier 14.5-45mm T2 Fujinon Premier 18-85mm T2
Better off using a focal reducer with a full frame f/2.8 zoom lens.
You get almost equivalent depth of field, longer zoom ranges, many options and much lower costs.

Yeah I love his channel. His contax zeiss episode was one of the best things I’ve seen on YouTube in our genre. It’s refreshing to see someone put in actual effort and not clickbait bullshit over and over. The video/photographer cliche videos are comical at this point “don’t buy until you watch” or “I was wrong about this camera” with the same style thumbnails and the same style videos with horrendous color grading because they used a horrible LUT that blows out their highlights and over-saturates everything. Hopefully we can see more channels like the one you posted. Sorry, I had to vent.

Actually I change my wish, an update from blackmagic on the new video assist monitors that they are finally shipping with Blackmagic Raw support for the Sony FS5 and Nikon Z6.

I hope Sony announces the full frame little brother to the FX9, or Blackmagic announces a camera with a Full Frame sensor.

So i said i'd post some stills, these are basically ungraded.
This frame is in a sequence with car lights, i like the tonality of this very subdued moment. Shot 12bit to manage shadow tonality.

From a different point above. All shot on a 50mm M Summicron probably wide open.

I think i hit the saturation slider here in Resolve. But this had car rolling over camera. It's a 21mm CV lens and i see some CA aberrations from the lens that i would deal with in post. But i'd never let a car run over a Red!

shot on an 85mm APO off a monopod. Nice tonality again and it's day light from windows with some small panel lights bouncing and filling in

    A reverse of the above.

    Some fun shots.
I think the true benefit of something like the fp is the speed at which you can see something and grab it. Using it just with an SSD plugged in and manual M lenses gives a more spontaneous feel. Now most of the film will be shot on Red, in controlled conditions with a crew and that's the right approach for multiple dialogue scenes and careful blocking. But the fp has it's place and i may hand it too someone and just say grab stuff.

    cheers
    Paul

    Mine is my FS700.
Had it for six years and it's never skipped a beat. No other camera I've owned has given such longevity.
I feel as though 2020 is going to be an upgrade year but I just can't see any cameras at an affordable price range that are not going to be overtaken quickly. It feels as though we're on the precipice of a big leap in standard features; I imagine very soon 10-bit, 4k120, All-I, & super-sampling will establish themselves as commonplace and cameras like the C200, EVA-1 and FS5/7 will fall out of fashion.

After using ok lighting  (672C and couple 500LED lights) for a few years I decided to step up lighting kit this year, first to the flexible lights like Falconeye RX18-TD and finally settled on Aputure C120D II, and result is quite a dramatic different, I think for the first time we got client ask us what "filters" we use so the photog's photo can have similar colour as our video lol  (and that was just a quick grade in Premiere).
I really wish i had done this lighting kit upgrade sooner. Definitely will make some of the videos we did much better ugh.

Light with Falconeye RX18TD: notice the subject is underexposed and background still overexposed, and the light gives a bit of magenta shift.

Lighting with Aputure C120D II on dome mini II, subject is well light and background is well exposed, skintone is pretty good with no colour shift.

Client asking what "filter" we use.

    Light setup for the day.
