Marketing was/is always half lying. But RED adopted a politics of FULL LYING.

Jesus himself could come down from Heaven waving a banner saying "RED LIED" and folks on reduser would still not believe.

Xavier Plagaro Mussard reacted to DBounce in iPhone 11 Pro can record on multiple cameras simultaneously
It's a calculator... It's a pager... it's a word processor... What really is a smartphone? It's a computer with a bunch of sensors and transceivers attached to it. They are whatever the software dictates they are. One day the major camera manufacturers are going to catch on to this fact, and then we can start to reap the benefits of computational photography on a real camera.

Is it Netflix approved?? ?
Nice thing is they kept sensors low resolution. I don't want my phone to make 25Mb JPGs.

Sometimes it feels like some people will never be happy.
This is great news, whether you buy it or not. That affordable anamorphic lenses are hitting the market is a big deal and a sign of things to come.

I literally just sold my BMPCC4K to get the Leica 10-25mm f/1.7. I figured the camera wasn't worth my hassle and I much rather have a convenient and awesome lens. ?

Xavier Plagaro Mussard reacted to ac6000cw in Canon removing 24p from new 4K mirrorless cameras - THE MEMES
Since you obviously know exactly what's inside a typical Canon camera of this class, could you please explain what extra hardware is associated specifically with providing 24 fps frame rate video capture and encoding (that wouldn't also be used for 25p and 30p)?
P.S. I'm a very experienced electronics design engineer, so I can probably understand the technical detail you might provide...

Xavier Plagaro Mussard reacted to Cliff Totten in Canon removing 24p from new 4K mirrorless cameras - THE MEMES
Its not funny. A Canon rep told there is a legitimate reason for no 24p. He said something about the way the sensor is read out. He said that Canon wants it to operate at a perfect temperature. It runs too cold at 24p, but is at an optimum temp at 30p. It was done for the benefit of the camera.

It doesnt make any sense for Pany to go APC-S L-Mount when they already have FF and M43 and zero APC-S lenses. It makes sense to make a S35 sensor with a M43 mount though.

Didn't you learn from the GOT guy? Just make it look good in the edit software and to hell with delivery or how anyone else watches it.

Xavier Plagaro Mussard reacted to frontfocus in Fast Fuji Glass
I own all of the f/1.4 /1.2 lenses. They got a significant boost in autofocus performance with the X-T3. They aren't silent and the 35mm f/1.4 is the loudest. Overall I like their rendering and think they offer good image quality for the money. But it shows, that Fuji wasn't thinking about video back when those lenses were designed
Do you think that's really necessary? At the moment we get 6.3K downsampled to 4K. And there are some, that already claim 4K is too sharp.
The other point is, why stop at 8K? Why not future proof for 16K?

Xavier Plagaro Mussard reacted to noone in SIGMA announces L-mount version of their Prime lenses
Depends on what you mean by a high end lens and what they are designed for. I would not expect "character" in a higher level macro lens but in a portrait lens, sometimes yes sure. Sigma has come a long way in the last few years. I have had a few that were not so good (one was about the best built lens I have had but was worse than a coke bottle optically - some weird 200mm lens from decades ago), Sigma lenses had the same importer to Australia as Pentax so Sigma zooms were often Pentax kit lenses here. That said, even though it isn't an art lens, the 150 2.8 APO macro (mine is the older non stabilized version) is one of my favourites and I have liked using it on M43 Panasonic, FF Sony and for now I even use it on a Canon APSC (EF mount). An ancient 180 5.6 APO macro wasn't all that horrible either.

Totally agree.
In a sense it's like choosing between purified water or cordial. If I'm thirsty then I'd choose cordial because I like it and I might put it in a cake, but if I was baking bread or making soup then I wouldn't want the cordial in there at all!
I've gone totally nuts into learning about lenses recently, vintage vs modern, organic vs sharp, fast vs slow, etc and one thing I stumbled upon was that people have a modern set and a 'character set' or 'vintage set' and they choose the right one for the particular project and the aesthetic they want.
I have the Sigma 18-35 and it is a phenomenal lens - it is legendary for good reason. But the CY Zeiss lenses are also legendary, precisely because they don't look like the high end modern lenses. Modern lenses are great because they are purified water, and vintage lenses are great because they add flavour.
