jbCinC_12 got a reaction from PannySVHS in Does anyone shoot in B&W?
Nice shots you did mercer, especially kaylee - I really like the Ansel Adams feel to it.
Here are my shots with b/w in it w/ BMPCC - Sigma 19mm and Cosmicar 25mm lenses. I've always wanted to do monochrome stuff. They're so nostalgic.

Nice. I find that the 12bit is quite a big step up from the internal 8bit if you raise the shadows. More dynamic range.
But for the uncompressed 4:4:4 look, with no big exposure changes in post (got it right in cam and lit it right), the internal 4K 8bit looks amazing and as good as 12bit.

I’d love to hear a comparison between 1080p ML Raw at 14bit vs Sigma’s 1080p Raw at 12bit in your review.

It records out, via USB-C, to Samsung T5 SSD drives... it doesn’t get much smaller than that.

im close to puling the pin on a speed booster originally i was going to buy one to fit the tokina 28-70 in nikon mount. but thinking about it further im probably better of getting one in ef mount. that way pretty much everything can be adapted via the ef mount. At the moment i have 7 pentax m42 and the tokina. So is there any flaws in my plan

BMPCC OG was announced in 2013, the BMMCC came out two years later in 2015.
The Micro Cinema Camera isn't that old! It just feels like it.

This is dope.
However, I think this is way too soon and I worry that they could make the 4k obsolete very soon. Even though I haven't owned it longer than 7 months. Is this the pattern they are rolling with. They are knocking cameras out way too soon for my liking. Bare in mind the 4k was suppose to be future proof.
Anyhoo looking at the image I cant really see a significant improvement. I have fallen in love with the 4K and I think it's a gem as long as you shoot within it's sweet spot.
Personally this is meh. I can't see the appeal for an upgrade but having an EF MOUNT is very ideal .

Amazingly enough whether you believe it or not every state is really different, even laws wise in the USA. Different economy's, different language, different crops, mindset even. I live in what they call the Tri County Area. Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky is all within 40 miles of each where I live, Indiana is only 5 miles from me. And they are are all day and night different dialect, economy, outlook, education wise, even disposition wise. Not one state is the same. Amazing difference from some. None alike money wise. From filthy rich to filthy poor. Ohio is a Industrial state, Indiana , Kentucky is a farming state. Kentucky a lot poorer over all than the others near me. It is what is is, And I love all of them. All are beautiful. on their own merits. I think Kentucky is one of the most beautiful states of them all to be honest.

I'm very torn about this update because on one hand I think the m4/3 mount is the most flexible option in terms of lensing plus with the different flavours of speedbosters available you can get much closer to full frame than Super35 if needed. On the other hand 6K for 4K delivery has the potential to deliver a great image and will probably completely solve the only issue I have with the camera which is the presence of aliasing/moirè in highly detailed scenes. (it's got substantially better with BRAW but it's still there unfortunately).
Decisions, decisions! ?

jbCinC_12 reacted to Andrew Reid in Why is Canon SO Frustrating?!
6D Mark II is not cinema for me.
There is a 1080p frame grab, look at it full screen and it screams digital.
Lack of dynamic range, mushy codec, in many ways a step back from even the old 6D.
Terrible detail that doesn't pop.
Now compare to an X-T3 frame I pulled from Vimeo... World of difference. Details pops, three dimensionally, film like dynamic range and colour.
Even if you don't care about 4K delivery, it's a world of difference between a shitty Canon DSLR and a top of the range 2019 mirrorless camera.

Also, the only time I've ever been shut down for shooting something was with my Micro rig. And I was just filming my family ice skating!
Granted, I live in LA, so people are more attuned to this stuff, but here I am, filming my family skating at an outdoor rink around Christmas, and the Manager comes up to me...
"Hey man, you can't shoot with that thing here."
"What? Why not? Everybody here is filming their family on their phones, etc."
"Yeah, but you've got a whole professional camera deal. We've got rules about that."
"Look, that guy over there is filming with a Canon 5D Mk IV, that camera costs three times as much as mine!"
"Yeah, but you got this mic and stuff, it's making people nervous. Sorry dude."
...So, of course, I pretended to agree, waited til he left, then shot at waist level, glancing down at my monitor surreptitiously... Two minutes later...
"No, dude. I can still tell you're filming. You gotta put it away or leave."
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WITH ALL THE STUFF IN THE WORLD THAT HAPPENS, YOU GOTTA SHUT DOWN A DAD FILMING HIS FAMILY?! C'MON EVERYONE, GET THE SKATES OFF, WE'RE LEAVING. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!"

I love how he claims it's the iPads and everything else fault.
So, if you can't watch it on an iPad, with factory calibrated screen, covering DCI P3, working with variable frame rate to match the content, offering over 500 nit brightness and extremely good contrast what should we get? 4000$ HDR Oled Screens?
In the end it was just too dark and HBO made it even worse with their crappy compression. Get your content delivery sorted and then start blaming customers!

I could be wrong but the cameras were too noisy for the night shots. Either they were conservative with lighting or poor choice of lenses or something else.

"people don’t know how to tune their TVs properly” .... “We tried to give the viewers and fans a cool episode to watch,” he said. “I know it wasn’t too dark because I shot it.”
Well... I tried to give my wife a 4 course meal. I know it tasted great, because I cooked it. If she didn't like it, its because her tastebuds are wrong.

I need too much time to find topic about BMMCC, so sorry for posting here, but maybe it could be useful as another example of what BM cameras and especially BMMCC are capable for, or as comparison with Pocket 4k.

Why does every new camera that is released inevitably have a “... vs Alexa” video, anyway?
I mean, if any of these cameras were as good as an Alexa, then Roger Deakins would surely buy them and use them in their Hollywood films. Weirdly enough, I have heard, somewhere, that a lot of Hollywood DPs own Fuji cameras as their personal camera...
But seriously, it’s not the end of the world if your sub-2000 dollar camera isn’t as good as an Alexa. Most people believe the best Red doesn’t look as good as an Alexa, so it’s highly unlikely that a $1300 camera will either.
Stop watching and reposting these stupid comparisons and maybe they’ll stop making them.
With that being said, the OG Pocket was often referred to as a Baby Alexa, maybe the P4K will earn that moniker as well one day, but until then, what’s the harm in mentioning a flaw or two? And a strength or two?
Cell phones are the great equalizer and how most people will watch most of your videos, so if a camera’s image looks noticeably better on a cell phone screen, I find, there’s usually something to it. YMMV.

Exactly. I got some MD and Canon lenses especially the Tokina ATX Pro 28-70mm. I'll be spotting for an adapter for the X-T3 until then.

jbCinC_12 reacted to amanieux in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K gets BRAW in extensive FFPGA hardware update delivered via software
is bRAW 3:1 lossless ? how effcient is braw compared to other lossy codecs ? for example braw 12:1 (32MB/s) it is about 2x smaller than h265 4:2:0 10 bit 400mbits found in xt3 but has it better image quality ? i know it is hard to compare a distribution codec to a acquisition codec but it is fair to compare them as xt3 is using h265 as an acquisition codec to grade in post and xt3 is the same price as bmpcc4k so who made the best compromise for best gradable footage vs smaller file size (fuji or bm) ? i have a hard time believing the few blackmagic design engineers developing braw over 2 years can come close to the efficiency of open standard codecs such as h265 that come from the work of thousands of engineers over decades .

Picked up the Fuji X-T3. Bribed my daughter with Maccas to model for a few minutes. No face or eye detect because i was rushing and just didn't think about it. You will see a few spots where it loses focus for a split second but if i had face tracking on at least i'm sure it would have been fine.
Hopefully i uploaded the clip correctly.
