ntblowz reacted to mkabi in Sony A7 III first impressions - what is going on with metering in video?
I was suggesting something more along the lines of some sort of compressed RAW via HDMI and Atomos decodes and can recode it as either CDNG or Pro Res Raw - or other pro res non-RAW formats.
I don't understand...
Isn't that what the a7III is doing? 4K FF Mirrorless for $2K...
I don't understand this either...
What are we doing here... follow the leader?
From my understanding each company (specifically Canon, Sony and Panasonic) leap frogged one another...
Yes, it all started with the 5D mark 2... but lets skip ahead to the 4K gen. cameras. I mean I can talk about the GH1 to Gh3.... but again.... lets skip to the 4K DSLRs and 4K MILCs...
2012 -> Canon 1DC - First 4K DSLR.
Panasonic said, we can do that and add 1080 @ 96fps -> GH4
Sony took their time but they did have a low-light monster... eventually leap frogged them by introducing 1080 @ 120fps (though cropped in the a7sII)
2016 -> Canon 1dx mark 2 - First 4K @ 60p and 1080/120p (no crop)
Panasonic said, oh yeah? 10 bit and 1080 @ 180p
No wait... we have more improvements -> GH5s
Blackmagic comes in.... and said.... "What? You forgot about us?" Throws the Pocket Cinema4K and mind fucks us.
Sony, can't be like... we can match the Panasonic GH5...........

This. You'll generally find that those making the most noise about gear make very little themselves of any worth to anybody.
ntblowz reacted to Oliver Daniel in New music video for British legends "The Damned", shot on GH5
The video was shot with a single GH5 (with a little A6500 in there) in 10 hours, edited, graded and effects done in 4 days (by me).
The new album (last I heard) was at No.7 in the official UK chart.
I'm a big fan of what Panasonic has done with this camera.
That said, the shining star of this video is the band.
ntblowz got a reaction from salim in The Canon C200 is here and its a bomb!
There is plenty of hobbyist drop big $$ on hasselblad & leica stuff, they cost way more than ursa mini pro
(especially with Chinese tourist i see, they even buy kid's leica camera to use lol)
It is still cheap compare to some other hobbyist like cars/boat/gliders/airplane, we have one person in our work fly a glider every other weekend, another one fly and own a soviet yak-52 as hobby, he said it cost few hundred dollars to fly his yak-52 each time
For me gh5s is good investment, did 20k job with it so already got money back and just come back from a nice trip in japan (it sucks to go on holiday without spending some on nice food and nice hotel lol)
Though i use different camera when on holiday or other stuff but i m not alone in that one, i also found out some photog use different camera when they are on holiday (i know two use canon professionally but use fuji for other stuff), that way i have a different "mood" so i am actually on leisure and not remind me of myself working.
ntblowz reacted to omar in Canon M50 mirrorless camera features 4K video
I own the camera. I’ve used it for about 3 weeks now and love it!
I mainly do vlogs but I’ve also done some cinematic test with it and it rocked! It’s not an Alexa but it’s still a powerful tool.
here is my film test:
and here is my latest vlog:

Dealing with the usual quirks of this camera, but results are still great.

Looks like a Canon release....

This film shot on AF100 and with GH2 as bcam
ntblowz got a reaction from Kisaha in Two weeks with the Fuji X-H1 (coming from a Sony user)
Very nice write up!
sony ibis is really weak, probably because there is not much movement inside the camera.
I used Sony for full 2 years but still dumped them at end and never look back, at the end I never really bond with them due to ergnomics and colour (though I just got x3000 because its the only action cam with OIS on it and the price is even cheaper than Chinese competitor due to Easter sale XD)
ntblowz reacted to Andrew Reid in Two weeks with the Fuji X-H1 (coming from a Sony user)
Thanks for that.
I agree with pretty much all you found. The Sony advantages are slight, aside from full frame. The Fuji advantages are large, and unique to Fuji.
I watched Northrup's follow up video last night. The clickbait headline was "2x better image quality" basically, and he knew full well what sensationalism that was, fresh from the Sony press junket, then tries to back peddle in a follow up video full of disclaimers, and that "2x = 1 stop" line, which should be infamous... should be on t-shirts... If I ever see him at a show or PR event, I'll shout "2x BETTER = ONE STOP!"
ntblowz reacted to MicahMahaffey in VFX Heavy NX1 Short Film (Game Station)
Here is a VFX heavy short film I shot on the Samsung NX1 years ago, finally decided to finish it and get it online so here it is! The last scene is the canon T3i
all lenses used are the rokinon 24mm f1.4 and Canon 50mm f1.4
Watching in 4k is strongly recommended as YouTube loves compressing things
