salim 108
https://www.eoshd.com/2017/10/sony-a7r-iii-announced-4k-hdr-ergonomic-improvements-no-10bit-4k60p/ "What’s new in the A7R III for video shooters? Well the improved ergonomics introduced with the A9 are on this body along with a new higher resolution 3.3m dot EVF. The camera now shoots 4K in Hybrid Log Gamma for compatibility with the latest 4K HDR TVs, like the Panasonic GH5. Unlike the GH5 however, it is held back by the 8bit 4:2:0 codec. HDR and HLG require a very wide colour gamut, so we’ll have to examine very carefully in the review whether this camera is really capable of a nice 4K HDR image without banding and colour problems." salim 108
5 axis stabilization to 5.5 stops pixel-shift using IBIS to generate a 169 megapixel image. Sony china is saying it's equivalent to 99 megapixel in real resolution. some samples: overview features:
zerocool22 504
So A7S III will also not have 10bit. Sony is becoming the new Canon. Seems my 5DIII(ML) will still remain my backup body for my ump for quite some time. The good news is that I dont have spend cash on body's the next year IronFilm
Gregormannschaft 299
Interesting. Looks like they're working on making the R primarily for photos again, and hopefully, the SIII will see actual proper improvements for video. Or not, and I have 0 reason to upgrade, which will also make me happy. ssrdd
Phil A 346
From a photography point of view, this sounds theoretically amazing, looking forward to the reviews. I'm not in the market for it but it seems the MSRP didn't increase from the II, so maybe there will be great used deals on the leaving generation to be had.
tellure 87
No 10bit and oh my god, we're still at a 100Mbps bitrate for 24p/30p 4K?!?! Goddamn Sony.. throw us a bone for video here. IronFilm, Mattias Burling, ssrdd and 3 others 4 1
David Bowgett 45
Eh, it's not a bad upgrade per se, but it does kinda give the impression of something hurriedly put out to compete with the D850. Then again, Sony's really been killing it with just about every new mirrorless for the last few years, so I guess they had to stop and catch their breath sometime. thefactory 61
So close to pulling the trigger on gh5 now. Some good stuff there but not enough to pick this over the gh5 for video. A7siii when? Craig McIvor
Rinad Amir 231
No one mentions battery life has it been improved? What about overheating after 25min run in 4k mode

I think Sony didn't really expect the RII to be as popular among videographers as it was. I can definitely see it getting 4K60p. Like you though, I'd love a new codec. " <= a "new" battery (same as in the a9) "A faster 'Bionz X' processor, along with the front-end LSI processor featured in recent Sony models, allows the camera to process more data, faster. " <= might mean less overheating? But my money is on the a7Rmk3 still having some overheating.
jonpais 0
Why bother fixing overheating when your overpriced cameras are selling like hotcakes anyway?

BasiliskFilm 79
My guess is that the full frame 4K will be at least as good as the A99II, maybe the D850, which is much improved over the A7RII.
Administrators Andrew Reid 10,309 Posted October 25, 2017 Administrators Share Posted October 25, 2017 Personally guys, I won't be buying one. You can bet the A7S III will blow it away for video. And the competition is huge... D850, GH5, Leica SL in particular. IronFilm, Craig McIvor and MountneerMan
