Hi everyone, I just wanted to share with you a quick ISO test I did yesterday with a 5d2, a gx7 and the kind owner of the gx7 :). Knowing the gh4 sensor will be similar to the gx7 one I think what follows is promising Before you ask I don't know why there is so much difference in the exposure: maybe different lens transmission or different factory sensitivity calibration. Viewing this test in the monitor surprised me so much I wanted to reshot everything, convinced that I had done something wrong. Hey there, I am relatively new to these discussions; but after having scoured the internet for some answers I have been at a loss, so where better to ask than here??? I have been working for a my organisation for a year now, and my job is essentially being the in-house film-maker, for the past year I have been using my Hacked Lumix GH2 (don't ask me what type of hack it is, I did it in 2012, recording between 88-90mbps with no negative side effects, except that no playback is available until the camera has been turned off and on). I typically shoot in cinema 23.976 fps in 1080p and have a very fluid workflow (I produce about 2 videos a week for the company I work for). Since last month I have been 'upgraded' to the Canon 5D MkIII since the company didn't want me to use my personal gear (for insurance reasons, I travel a lot with the gear). And while there are some downsides in terms of bulkiness of the 5D body compared to the GH2 (and lack of swivel screen) it is a standalone camera and I find the two can't be compared too much: they are both great and stand well on their own depending on the job required. My ultimate question is: now that we're in 2014 and seeing as the GH4 is about to be released, what is the 'next level' in affordable DSLR's (or even dedicated cameras, like the Black Magic)in your opinion? I feel like I have been out of touch with the camera world since I hacked my GH2 in 2012, is this a camera that seems 'future proof' (with the hack) or will it shrivel to the upcoming 4k's?

I've been holding onto ~$1400ish waiting to hear on the GH4, but with no new information on price or release in a number of weeks I'm starting to look at other options. If it isn't for sale until late April, fine, but tell us! I'm content to wait if I can know how much I need and when I need it by. Have I missed something? Has Panasonic said when they're announcing/what the holdup is? I've hear sometime around the 14th rumored on forums, but it just seems to be conjecture. Anyone have any insight?

Hey guys! So, I'm selling my last remaining anamorphics, and just keeping the two I like the most. The ones that are going away are pretty good, and rare too, one could say. They're all in great shape, no dents, dust, scratches or fungus. -- UPDATED 05/16/2014 Thanks everyone, all lenses have been sold and I've only kept the Iscorama. Should look for a 2x stretch dual focus setup after a while, but right now I'm just glad people were so honest with buying the lenses I had. :)

Hi, So i'm a Canon 5D Mark III owner and i'm looking for a smaller compact camera as a travel camera, B cam and for street photography. I mainly do video, so video features and quality is important but stills is equally important for personal projects if i'm not taking my Canon out. I've narrowed my choice down to two options - the Oly EM-10 and the Pany GX7. As far as i'm aware the picture quality (in stills) for both cameras is similar. However the GX7 has a 1/8000s mechanical shutter and a silent electronic shutter (which i'm not sure the EM10 has) and I do like the tilting EVF. The EM10 however has that fantastic IBIS (3 axis not 5 but footage shows it works almost as well). The only thing that is disappointing is the 30p restriction and the video quality/options aren't up to par with the GX7. Can anyone offer me any advice on which they think is a better choice? Particularly if you own or have used either of these cameras (or even the similar EM-5/EM-1) please share your thoughts/experiences. Thanks!

Ok to start us off, let me show you a comparison I made between the Olympus PEN E-P5 and the Panasonic GX7 I was wondering if anyone has anything similar for the OMD EM1. I'm really considering getting one in the future because of IBIS, but the EP5's video quality was such a huge letdown (it looked like old camcorder footage) that Im skeptical about if the EM1 can be that much better.

I thought I would start a thread that focuses ONLY on the Panasonic GH4, and getting the most out of it - rather than start yet another thread debating if Camera X is better than Camera Y etc. Just the GH4 for this one. I'm excited about what this camera can do and how it could affect my professional work. There are just a few things I want to make sense about this camera, in one place, as other topics are full of conflicting information and debates of whether the camera is good or not. I do have an interest in 4k (as it makes better 1080p), so wanted to figure out how you would get the best out of it. I do pretty much everything from controlled shoots to run and gun. Medium to heavy grading always. 1. Not everyone wants the brick. I don't totally need it. It may look a bit awkward but I can see it being useful for studio setups/interviews etc. 10 bit 422 4k sounds lovely, but is it possible an external recorder capable of recording 4k footage could do this over the cameras HDMI port? 2. For those who want the brick, how would you envisage setting this up on a rig? (seems like it could get messy if not done carefully.) 3. I need slow motion for my work. I get asked to do it all the time. Will 96fps conform only to 24fps? And would it be possible to record this onto an external at 10 bit? 4. For internal 1080p and 4k.... memory card options? 5. What are the best solutions out there to record 1080p 10 bit 422 on the GH4, and are there any options for 4k on the horizon? 6. Does anybody know for sure the actual dynamic range? These are the questions I have for now. Please share your own :)

Dear Panasonic. :) This new GH4 seems great and I bet that many of us indie folk and others thank you for listening. Since you may soon find out with strong sales of the GH4 it's smart bussiness to listen. The next camera you could and should do is an improved version of GH4 but with more video work in mind. Make it so that it does not have a handle but a handle is removable and comes in the package as standard. Then make a link that enables two of the cameras to be synchronized via cable or connector for 3D-work. This would mean the camera needs to have the battery under (accessible from back wall) or behind the screen and accessible from bottom. -Use the newer SD card system. -Add higer bit rates for 4K .. (100 is not alot GH4) -and more bith depth. . 12 bit would be good. (perhaps only via sata connector) -add higher frame rate. 48FPS at least for 4K .. would be great -Add an external sata connector so users can record to an SSD if the high FPS + bitdepth require too much from the SD cards. And to top it off.. If you can make a new sensor 8 K resolution or 4 K which dimensions conform to video work first and for photography second. A pure 4K / 6K resolution video sensor in micro four thirds mount would be sweet and likely less noisy.

I am hoping to use the GH3 for a run-and-gun doc camera. I would like to use a lens with a long zoom range that also has built in image stabilization. Does anyone have experience or concerns with DX lenses/Metabones Speed Booster for GH3? Can I expect stabilization (VR) to function correctly? Will I run into vignetting problems? I don't use AF for video, but will it function for stills? Will the camera control the aperture, or will the dial on the adapter do that? I'm looking at the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/644744-USA/Nikon_2192_AF_S_DX_NIKKOR_18_200mm.html with Metabones Nikon G to Micro Four Thirds Speed Booster on the GH3. My calculations suggest that this should give a GH3 equivalent of 13-143mm with a 1-stop gain. Thanks! I have been reading EOSHD for a few months now and find it such a good resource. PS: Why not use a Panasonic lens? I have not been happy with panasonic lenses as they seem to have poor behavior when it comes to zooms, which I sometimes want to keep. The 14-140mm has a focus flutter on zooms, and the 12-35mm, which claims a constant aperture of 2.8, actually opens up and closes down in steps while zooming, basically creating an exposure flutter. I have samples on vimeo, but it's down right now. I can post them later if someone wants.

Got my SLR Magic Anamorphot set yesterday and ran out the door to get some video. I really like the new SLR Magic Anamorphot. Great solid metal build and heft. Easy to adapt, with threads on the front for diopters. I shot this comparison with the Panasonic LA7200. I wish I had a proper wide like the Panasonic 20mm, but I'll get one soon enough. The widest for the SLR Magic Anamorphot is 20mm MFT, but the Panasonic is 14mm. That is the only real advantage of the LA7200, the wide shots. Otherwise the SLR Magic is just worlds better in terms of usability, size, and the ability to use diopters and ND filters.

Ive been experimenting for a while with the Panasonic LA7200. I just cant seem to cut down on the edge blurring with it. I shot this with a Canon 5d Mark III with 85mm L1.2 and the edge blurring is still very evident. Hi guys,   Long time reader, first time poster. I have a small production company, we shoot some studio stuff weekly, and venture out making some comedy sketches, and soon we hope to be doing some slightly heavier drama. we always strive to make our stuff look great, but we're a small run-and-gun team. We work out of backpacks with mostly handheld kit.   We need a new camera. One we can sync our H6N into, use in the studio with our Autocue, our Stedicam and take out on shoots. We've narrowed it down to the 700D(T5i), the GH2/3 (? same ?) and the A57. Can you offer any advice?    Important factors are :   Form factor Ease of use and battery life FPS Lens availability usability (Focus peaking would be nice...)   Thank in advance - and before I'm lambasted I know this will have been asked a hundred times, but trawling though all the posts will take an age....

"Musgo", in case you happen to be one of those who don't know, is a Spanish feature film shot entirely on the Panasonic GH2 with an early 44Mbps hack and three lenses (Tokina 11-16mm, Nikkor 28mm f2.8 and Nikkor 50mm f1.4 if I remember correctly) over the course of one week. It has awesome cinematography.   Gami Orbegoso (director, cameraman, editor, color timer, etc.) is very kind in sharing all the gear he used and other info on the shoot. Hi, An excavation into the attic unearthed an old TOSHIBA COLOR VIDEO CAMERA ik-1900 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Owners-Manual-Toshiba-IK-1900-Color-Video-Camera-/230389930914) It has a Nikon TV-nikkor zoom macro 12.5-100mm 1:1.6 lens which i have unscrewed out of the camera and wish to use it on my Panny GH2 but have no clue what mount to use to do the same. I tried asking all the DP's and techies i know but they have no clue on the lens. Even google hasnt been able to help at all. Can someone who knows their lenses well share any info on this and recommend me a mount for this lens for my GH2? Links to the right mount or names will be much appreciated.

(1.33x stretch, focus through) I've modded this one hard, to fit every need. Now I'm moving towards LOMOs and would be sad to let this baby in the locker, gathering dust. I've machined a custom front for it, creating 105mm filter threads for attaching big diopters - which are somewhat hard to come across.   The glass is in perfect condition, no haze, fungus, scratches or chips this time. Rear thread is secured with Redstan's clamp, with 67mm threads, closest pairing possible with the taking lens. I'm including front and rear caps - not the original ones - and the original lens pouch.   As everyone already knows, it's focus through, allows you to rack focus on the taking lens and go extra wide-angle at the same time. Has some problems regarding corner sharpness, but I think it's awesome.   I'm including in this kit a custom-made filter holder for 4.5" diopters, and three of these: +0.5, +1 and +2, Tiffen, in perfect shape. This way, you won't need anything else in order to start shooting with this lens, even at the widest lenses and apertures. This size of glass is very hard to find, and this adapter doesn't even have a copy. Single unit! Ok so there was a previous forum thread regarding a rehousing project for the LA7200. Based off the video there, I have had this design in my mind for my own rehousing project and improvements as well for close focus and/or marrying the LA7200 with a manual focus lens and making an all in one lens solution for the Canon 5d Mark III.   Progress is starting off well. Getting the hang of AutoCAD and designing as such.   I am planning on first prototyping with a 3d printer I have access to then going to a further manufacturing step from there. Not trying to get too ahead of myself however you can keep track of the progress and id appreciate comments or suggestions regardless as I try to work this out.   Steps:   Design model in AutoCad --- 15% Port model into Google Sketchup 3D print prototype Test Prototype Test again.... Make changes... Probably test again.... Use AutoCad model for CNC machining Produce final model.   Planned features...   Close Focus and far focus at a twist of the ring. Easy to handle enclosure Focus ring easy lens adjustment Standard housing to fit Cokin P or other diopters much easier   Possible features   15mm rail mount auto adjusting focus solution Housing combined with Aperture adjustor on a Canon FD manual Lens Direct connection to the 5d Mark III basically making it a hack lens using a custom EF mount or 72mm thread AF confirm chip? (not a bad idea) All the lens flares! (ALL THE LENS FLARES!) Er multicoating removal. Something like that.   Close to exact Measurements via caliper - (short of cutting the existing enclosure in half. I could not get the measurements exactly for how close the back and front lens elements are in terms of distance)   Front Element - Concave Width: 84.90mm Height: 72.96mm Depth: 16.25mm   Rear Element - Convex Width: 52.96mm Height: 40.99mm Depth: 4.13mm   Front Element Holder depth - 17.82mm Outer Hood Depth - 13.14mm   Approx 23.8mm distance between the two lenses. Like I said, cant figure it out unless i cut the thing in half and really I want to be able to use it until the enclosure is finished at least)   All in all, working pretty well so far. Got the elements into AutoCad, and its time to start designing the enclosure for it.  

Hi!   I'm thinking about buying the "EOSHD Panasonic GH2 Shooter's Guide" but I have a GH3 and not a GH2. Is this going to be a significant problem for me if I buy the guide or is the advice included also applicable to the GH3? I suppose the two cameras are quite similar, but I am quite new in the world of DSLR filmmaking and I do not wish to be confused...   Thanks, anax276
