jack jin got a reaction from Yurolov in Canon RF Mount Red Komodo Style Camera On the Way?
So the red komodo for 1500 dollars more is going to have:
1, True internal Redcode raw at 8:1 in mq mode and 4-3:1 at hq mode
    2, Internal 4k and 2k prores recording
    3, Global Shutter
    3, Much better dynamic range
    4, 6k
    5, Red ipp2 colorscience
5, Better lowlight then the c200

However, the canon is going to have:
    1, Internal nd filters
2, full sensor 4k 120 compared to cropped 4k60 on the komodo
    3, canon c series reliability
    4, Better DPAF
    5, 1500 dollars cheaper

Personally I don't see the point of the canon, since the a7s3 will blow the canon's image quality and usuability out of the water, while being 1000 dllars less, in a much smlaller mirrorless form factor. At least the red has global shutter and internal raw and 6k. The canon just sound like another 1dc all over again.

This is not a professional tool. I'm sorry, but if it overheats then it cannot be used in a professional setting. Will be fine for youtubers and people doing stuff for personal hobby and such. But not a serious paid professional.
The amount of hypocrisy in this forum is bewildering. Everyone giving it a pass left and right. Yes, it matters if it overheats only in direct sun lol. If I am shooting anywhere outside there is a good chance I will be in the direct sun, unless I confine myself to shade.

I believe both reviews were honest.  This is because of my personal experience with the Sony A7III, which has been excellent and never overheated in any situation.  I've taken it to Costa Rican jungles, Californian beaches, and even here in Montreal our brief summers are hot.  However, I have a friend who also has a Sony A7III and his camera overheats all the time.  It's overheated on us during interviews and even product shoots, in studio, in Canada, in the winter (my camera, shooting another angle, was fine).
I thought Sony had moved beyond their overheating issues, but it seems they still have inconsistent build quality.  So one reviewer may have received a R6 that performed impeccably, and the other got a flammable brick.  Hopefully Canon fixes these issues before wide release, but I'm definitely waiting to see what Sony and Nikon have to offer in the next few months before I buy another camera.

Didn't a canon ambassador from the C5D comment section say that the r6 samples sent to the uk were all mistakenly body samples that weren't meant to shoot video? I think that could explain the reason why C5d's results are so different from dpreview's.

Interesting if true. Why you should never judge a pre-production model as issues like this can arise!

It does a full sensor readout even in raw on the lower resolution, since it uses a full RGB pattern sensor, so basically you get insanely clean and sharp 8k, 6k, and 4k since they are all downsampled from the full 12k resolution.

I bought the Studio edition of Resolve and logged a support question some time back, and they directed it to a support partner of some kind here in Australia (I think they were a dealer or something - they had a different business name), who then emailed me back and forth to diagnose and help me out.  I was trying to work out how to optimise my MBP + eGPU setup and at one point they checked with a BM engineer about something.
It was a very positive experience overall, and I was kind of surprised because I'm used to being a customer of other brands and basically you get their forums or it's impossible to even find a phone number for them, so customer service isn't something I'm used to even thinking is available, let alone getting help from really knowledgable folks.

This is in such contrast to Blackmagic. Whenever Ive had a problem with Resolve, I just email them and get a response within a day or two. And that's for a FREE product! Back a few years ago I even got a direct response from a senior engineer there.

    Promised at launch. Didn't deliver.
Z6 was not sub $2k at launch either. It was $2500.
I won't go easy on Nikon for teasing early adopters with ProRes RAW and then sitting on their hands for a whole year.
Besides ProRes RAW is a niche feature.
The real story here is the competition
S1 has internal 10bit V-LOG and same image quality as the $4000 S1H. This S1 costs same as Z6.
The Fuji cameras also have 10bit F-LOG, and a lot more besides! Plus they actually feel like high quality, well designed photographic tools!
Also the entry price for enthusiast full frame cameras is now around $2000.
And for that you can get a Sigma Fp with internal 4K RAW recording, external ProRes RAW recording (12bit) and BRAW, in an even smaller form factor.
The Z6 is a bit of an A7 III with a Nikon badge.
What is the unique selling point? 8bit, no LOG, no 60p?
It's not a bad camera by any means... For 2018.
But now the market has moved on, Nikon's response is... incremental at best.
EOS R5, EOS R6, Sony A7S II successor, Fuji X-T4 with 10bit 4K/60p, rumoured Fuji X-H2 and Panasonic GH6, hefty pro video S1H and wonderfully creative Sigma Fp are all myriad reasons not to bother with a Nikon Z6 re-released with a letter S!
So I don't think I am being too harsh.
If Nikon want my money from now on they'll have to think outside the box.
How so? If we are talking HDMI ProRes RAW they were not actually first because they didn't ship it first.
I could announce I am the first camera nerd on the moon.
    But never actually go.
Does that make me a groundbreaking astronaut, or a bit of a dickhead?!
Expensive pro cameras are exactly the kind of tools Nikon should be making.
The 1D X Mark III destroys the D6.
The GFX 100 is a peerless technological marvel.
The R6 and what Sony do next will both be better than the Z6 or rumoured Z6S for video.
The R6 might even be the same price.
The Sigma Fp has FF 4K ProRes RAW.
The main thing however for most people is the internal recording.
Here the Z6 offers 8bit and no LOG!
Panasonic S1 destroys it in this regard.

It's not even worth talking about. There is no comparison. It is not even just about time and dedication. It's about luck and talent, social connections, money, backing and reputation.
You will never get to there.
I will never get to there.
We should focus on what's actually feasible.
I'm surprised you ask something like that really.
    The goal is cinematography.
What do you think it is? Scoping out who has the nicest hats?
If we must dissect the art...
The goal is to create emotion for the audience.
Emotional shape... beauty, ugliness, all kinds of mood, and to do this by capturing real life.
Of course it always helps if the audience has a sensitivity to what they are seeing.
    Some, erm.. don't.
It's also about sound. The combination of music with moving poetry is really spectacularly moving, if done right and creativity.
I it has a point to put across, a theme...
It is easy to put some orchestral cliche over a sunset shot - but there is far more to cinematography in terms of poetry than that. It is like writing. Anybody can write, we can all use words and form sentences.
But what makes the difference between a sentence by a monkey and one by a great storyteller?
I am not frustrated, not lost at all.
I have all sorts of ideas.
There is a bit of writers block... Since I left Berlin, my life has changed.
    The issue is implementation.
I don't have the energy or motivation. I know that whatever I create, it'll probably go on the internet and be tears in the rain.
I also don't have here the connections to musicians and actors that I had in the city. So I am probably going to change what I do. And I have too much gear and a blog to run. It takes up all my time. Although the Berlin days are over where I shot a lot of creative work, the goal now is to travel and try to make emotional images, stuff that has meaning. Not easy in today's environment where everything is so gentrified. There's nothing commercial that attracts me. By not taking jobs, you have to do it all yourself, you're not institutionalised. You're on the outside pretty much all the time. Much harder. Experiments and some documentary style vignettes of life in the city are great but I am bored of them and want to move onto something fresh. It might not be video related at all.
Anyway that's my existential crisis. How's yours?

So many times I wish I were a photographer instead
You can get a beautiful shot with a camera that looks the same whether moving or still...
But movement always has to justify itself.
If the frame floats or moves with IBIS, shot dead. Mood gone. It's such a fine art. Camera movement is such a fussy thing. It's like colour - There's no point it being there unless the movement is beautiful or has meaning. Otherwise, may as well be still - or black and white.
With a photo you can just make a pretty shot and it's job done. It's about timing, framing. With video you have to sustain all that's nice and has meaning for 10x longer. Sometimes 1000x longer.
With photos there's the one-man nature of it... with video, you have to rely on others a lot more - actors, writers, and so on. And that's before you've even started the shoot
    Sometimes I hate video.
And think I'd be better off with a Fuji GFX 50R, just enjoying myself.
Just one man and his camera.
With video, you often have to lug around rigs, tripods and monitors.
To anybody who sustains their filmmaking over the years at a high level I salute you. It must be incredibly stressful!

My camera and Pi has arrived and I'm happy to say it's going to fit very nicely in a (broken and unusable) Bolex B8 - by my calculations, the sensor size is similar to that of 8mm film, so I'm planning on taking off the C-mount from the sensor and placing to look through the D-mount lenses on the camera. Which will also let me hang onto the turret system.
As my camera is already broken, I'm going to have to gut it, so it's essentially the most hipster RPi case around, but I'm fine with that. There's tonnes of room for a power bank etc. to keep everything nicely held inside. Can possibly keep the mechanism too so I can make cool noises while filming.
I just need to wrap my head around some buttons and switches. I'm quite digging the idea of opening the side of the camera to turn the system on and off every time, but definitely need a trigger on the outside of the casing. I'm also toying with the idea of setting 15 second record limits to really embrace the annoyance of a wind-up system.
When all is said and done, it's going to look something like this:

But won't this create a toxic environment for political circle jerking though? Since there will be only one side of the political spectrum present on this forum. I agree with the other users about the idea of a blanket ban, since these political discussion often don't bring much value to this specific forum, and both sides of the coin can get pretty toxic at times. Or maybe there should be a specific subforum just for politics, since a lot of us on other subforums is only interested in gear and filmmaking. Having any political posts or replies in these threads really does ruin the atmosphere of this forum. That way we could still allow political discussion to proceed, but there won't be any "wankers" present in these normal threads.
