    1. Anyone had overheating issues? A friend of mine uses the 1DC for pro work and claims it overheats quite a bit. Maybe it's his copy.

    2. Can the Sigma Art 18-35 be attached to it? Anyone used it on the 1DC?

I believe it’s overheated on my once so it may be his copy.

Ive used crop sensor lenses on it but it’s not worth it. 18-20 vignettes on the 18-35

I like having the ability to take full frame photos with it so i think it’s better to own full frame glass if you’re going to own the 1DC. the 24-35 would be best for it.

I am not too sure about the IQ part. 4k on all these newer video cameras is getting pretty damn good. And Panny has fixed a lot of the color problems. I would bet the gap is not as far off as you think. Now sure there is the Canon color thing but that is becoming less hard to replicate as of late.

Would be nice to see a side by side comparison. I know the DPR review of the GH5s is showing it to be better than the Sony A7s mk II. But that is 10bit  versus 8 bit in the Sony. But the 4k in the 1DC is 4.2.2 8 bit so...

Im getting a GH5s to review soon. I will do some tests for ya!

  3. I use the 1DC on a daily basis and switch between the 4K and super35 modes according to what I’m doing. The super35 mode is like having a C100 with better low light (except you can’t mount most EF-s lenses on it!) the 4K mode is to die for. It’s been so hard for me to justify “upgrading” to anything else because when I shoot with a modern camera... it still pales in comparison. Even the 1DX II doesn’t do it justice because of log. Andrew makes a great C Log for it... but it’s still just not the same and even he would admit that I’m sure.

I recently built out a rig that is the most balanced and amazing handheld rig I’ve ever built with it. Wooden camera DSLR cage, with handles and the smallhd focus.

I convert all my footage I shoot in 4K to ProRes LT. It’s a pain but whatever. I don’t care.

Edit Ready 2.0 is a great program for it, and I’d imagine on an iMac pro it would convert in no time. Even on my base model 13” MacBook Pro it doesn’t really take that long.

1.3x is the only thing that drives me crazy to be honest. If it were true full frame a 24-105 would be all I’d carry around, but because it’s a weird crop and no lenses are designed for it... you kinda have to own a 16-35 AND a 24-70.

I only use my Contax Zeiss glass on it and they pair perfectly. That nice vintage character paired with that milky smooth 4K canon log. It’s the best image quality I’ve ever had and I’m so happy about it still in 2018. I never want to part with it unless I become rich and buy a RED EPIC VV or Arri Alexa Mini.

I don’t think the camera is impractical for handheld work or whatever. Just treat it like you would with a RED or Arri and it’s the same type of workflow.

Thought I'd post this here for the curious who are not part of the Kine FB group.

The only adjustment made to the footage is applying an Arri rec.709 LUT.
    Shot with Tamron 24-70 f/2.8.

    f/2.8 - 4.0
    ISO: 800
    25 and 75 fps
    4300K

Downscaled to 2K and exported in 422.

This looks great! Thanks for sharing!

  5. I shoot YouTube content on my 1DC almost every day and edit on a base model MacBook Pro 13” late 2016. I transcode all my footage to either 2k ProRes LT or 4K ProRes LT using EditReady 2.0. Sometimes I’ll also convert to proxy inside of fcpx if I’m doing 4K. Honestly, I need an iMac pro to handle the footage natively but the best thing about the 1DC (and MJPEG 4K Canons) is the 8bit 4:2:2. Footage from my 5 year old 1DC still looks better than a modern C200 8bit 4:2:0 .mp4 and has better low light too.

You can even do AF lock on your face really easily for selfie shooting

with that being said............... I’m still considering going to 1DX II for the dual pixel AF. It truly would make shooting myself a breeze.

The codec sux on one hand because it’s massive and you need to convert it... but once you convert it to ProRes it truly is a dream when you look at the picture quality.

Also, the perk with 1DC that 1DXii doesn’t have is the superb Super35 mode. Looks identical to C100 footage. It’s 8bit 4:2:0, but because it’s pulling straight off the sensor, it is super sharp and detailed unlike the 1080p full frame 1DX II image. Again, so so so stupid that NEW cameras like 5Div and 1DXii 1080p is still as soft as it was five years ago on the 5Diii internal. So so so stupid.

  6. I have used the tascam one before and it has failed me multiple times. Not sure if its just the unit I was using...but we have had files totally corrupt..could be SD card too...but our Zoom H1's have always been tanks. I would choose this F1 over the tascam just on a brand perspective. I trust Zoom more.

  7. I use epidemic sound for music but the best and cheapest way to get music is to hire a producer to make a custom track for you. Go on SoundCloud and find an artist and reach out to them. I’ve hired producers to make custom songs for me and it’ll cost like $300-$700 a track. Real easy. Lmk if you need names. Living in Nashville helps

  8. Well obviously the thing we all want and hope to happen is a full frame M mount mirror-less with the option to also mount EF glass. Then they’d have a full line of lenses to choose from and maybe a new standard as well? I think it’d be a waste of space to put a true EF mount on a mirror less body because the amount of space needed to simulate where the mirror goes.

    good points guys

uhhh YEAH thats just EXACTLY what i want thank u!!!!

    sounds p easy, no?

i *think* my friend has a P4 Pro... ill ask him!!! definitely gonna have a pal help or just hire someone with the right drone im not looking to buy one

and i can rent a jib? easy? (tell me mistakes have been made lol)

Cool. Ya you can rent jibs really easy. Look around your local video rental places. If you’re in the USA  Lensrentals.com has some Kessler jibs that I think would work.

  10. Depends on your budget on all this. But this is how I would do it.

    - DJI Phantom 4 Pro at least (best IQ at affordable price) if you have more $$ then the inspire 2 with X7 is incredible.

    - 8 ft jib

attach the drone to the jib and use the jib to get the move in the room. The drone will be turned on so the gimbal will be on, but you don’t need to use the blades. You can operate the camera from the app and use the jib to get repeatable motions.

Then for the second shot use the drone like normal. Easy for the P4 Pro. Make sure you change the maximum altitude to maybe like 300 ft or something to get that huge move you want.

By doing this you keep the image consistent between the indoor stuff and the exterior.

@DaveAltizer Buy it now and sell it when the a7siii comes out. :) Throughout the entire video, I kept watching your camera perched precariously on the edge of the table on top of that wobbly gorillapod, thinking it was going to fall over any minute! Thanks for answering my question about AF-C and the touch screen thingy. One question - can switching from APS-C to full frame be assigned to a function button?

Lol ya I know I’m nuts. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes you can assign it to a function button. Can’t switch during recording though

I have a DoP friend who is also becoming an expert at color grading (even has gone out and purchased a DaVinc Resolve Grading Panel!), seems like a smart combination to have. To help see your vision through to the end.
