I have them both and I actually like GX80 colors more. 50 fps 4K is for me the only reason GH5 is a better choice (and to be honest GH5 looks more like a professional camera, as GX80 looks more like a turist toy). I find V-Log unusable colorwise and I don't see a big difference between 10 bit and 8 bit footage.

Lana Del Rey's new music video looks amazing. Film grain comes trough exceptionally well considering the source is YouTube. 

Does anyone know how to get film grain look something like that? I have gorilla grain and filmconvert but the film grain with those is much too clean. Filmconvert with 8 mm settings is also way too blurry.

I kinda agree with DPC, that comparison is really weird. I agree that canon has great colors, but that profile with crushed blacks is pretty extreme. I mean, it's ok as a 'look' I guess, but not really something you can deliver to every client.
 
I'm also pretty curious about work or a reel, this site (especially the forum) is a great resource, but your opinions can be quite harsh and I don't see the actual knowledge and creative skills to back it up, except for a few music vids from a long time ago. This is not meant as a bash or to bully you, but I think it's too much spec talk and not enough filming.

Andrew, do you film professionally? It's just that you speak authoritatively but I don't think I've seen anything other than what you post here. To me the skin tones (especially on the train trip) look pretty awful. No client I have would ever approve that. The blacks are crushed to death and faces are red and over-saturated.

I think the GoPro/Karma looks way way better, what comes to color and motion. Stabilization on Mavic doesn't seem to be that great, you can see a lot of jello/jitter.

GammaDR gives the most natural look and you can add contrast to it if you need. I have been shooting close to 100 hours this summer and when using normal or GammaC it's hard to manage scenes that are partly sun partly shade. I tried ricardos settings, but the colors were ultimately too fake and blend. It's not really fun to look image that is so gray. In stills it seems nice, but watching even 2 minute video with it is just exhausting.

Lowering contrast breaks the colors. Leave contrast at 0 and you will be much happier with the camera. I too tried contrast -10 when I got the camera and the results were unusable.
 

NX1 has way better colors straight out of camera. Panasonic users can't even imagine.
