Ok, now I am truly impressed....you can finally change the timeline resolution after adding clips to the timeline. I know every other NLE could do this years ago, but it was one of my pet peeves with Resolve and they finally fixed it. Also, for some reason it stopped crashing for me, I am now editing entire projects with version 17 Beta and it is back to being rock solid.
I haven't had time yet to watch their presentation to see all of the new features, but the ones I've found so far are great.

While shooting an semi long feature film latest days of this summer, I took a breath and one day climbed around and casually recorded some used locations with lovely Pocket 4k.
Maybe it would not be too boring, so just little bit оf reminding of of the beauty of not so distant nature, so happy living out of our - so often desperately and absurdly busy - human world...

After using my old one for 4 years I replaced my 13" MBP with a new one only a few months ago.
I did this deliberately, knowing that the new architecture was coming, because I didn't want to be a beta tester.
I haven't read in detail what was in the announcement, but assuming that it was anything close to what was predicted, it's an interesting thing.
The things I think are most interesting are that by transitioning all the Apple hardware to ARM:
they can optimise the hell out of everything as they'll have control over the whole software/hardware stack it essentially merges the hardware platforms of phones/tablets/computers, meaning that they would go to one App Store, app developers only have to write one version of the apps instead of two all iPhone/tablet apps could be run natively on the computers potentially all the computer apps would be able to be run on iPhone/tablets The reason I waited is that it also means that they'll have to re-write OSX from the ground up, potentially putting into place a huge backlog of fundamental architecture changes that have been accumulating since OSX went to a unix platform, which is going to be a huge and very messy process.  Also, that means that every OSX program will have to be re-written, or will have to run in an emulator.  That's not something I want to beta test on something as sensitive to performance as video editing.
The end-game of this technology choice is that your phone will become your computer.
I've said this before, but imagine coming home, taking your phone out of your pocket and dock it which provides power and also connects it to your monitors / peripherals / eGPU / storage arrays and it goes into 'desktop' mode and becomes a 'PC'.
This might sound like science fiction, but I've seen someone actually do this years ago running linux on an Android device - it had tablet mode and desktop mode, similar to how modern laptops with touchscreens now have a tablet mode and a pc mode.  Modern processors are good at being efficient while they sit almost idling in the background, but then turn into screaming power-thirsty race-horses when asked to do something huge (anyone that has had their phone crash will know it can drain the battery before you even notice that anything is wrong).  When you dock it then full-power becomes available and only cooling may be a limiting factor.
The other aspect that supports this is the external processing architecture that has been worked out.  OSX supports having many eGPUs and Resolve will happily use more than one, although currently you don't get much improvement by having more than a few of them.  It's not inconceivable that in future an eGPU will be available that will appear to the OS as a small cluster of eGPUs, and the computer simply becomes a controller.  When I studied computer science we programmed software for a couple of toroidal clusters, one of which had 2048 CPUs (IIRC).  The architecture is getting there and video processing and graphics is a perfect application for it as you can just divide up the screen, or separate tasks such as decompressing video / rendering the UI / scaling the video / doing VFX processing / colour grading / etc.

Something more stable than 16? 15.2 was solid for me. 16 crashes all the effing time for me. I turned on live save because of all the lost work.

In terms of visual post effects that can effect the image. "Sharpen & Soften" effect in Resolve and a slight drop in exposure.

lots of great stuff to read in this thread
fwiw: to me a 'thick' image is
    1. a well exposed piece of film where you can pull value by dodging and burning in the darkroom
    2. in contemporary speak, the same thing. just using computers

    Rokinon 50mm T1.5 at T1.5
    Black Satin 2 Filter
55M Organic Lut (part of Advanced Deluxe Set)
Looks thick enough to me. 🙂
Key is having a camera without nasty processing - especially sharpening and strong NR but having great tonality, at least 10 bit and also good color science instead

Although we disagree on the "less than 8-bit" images, I have been waiting for someone to mention that we are viewing film emulsion images through 8-bit files.

To the eye, the color depth of Kodachrome is considerably more vast than what is shown in these 8-bit images.  Kodachrome was one of the rare film processes that added dye to the emulsion during processing, which gave it such deep colors (and which is also more archival).  Some of that splendor is captured in these 8-bit scans, so, theoretically, there should be a way to duplicate those captured colors shooting digitally and outputting to 8-bit.

You probably would see the variation in the skin tones if you were there, but, to one's eyes, such variations don't seem so dramatic.  Furthermore, Kodachrome usually looked snappier than other reversal films (when normally processed), but when directly viewing a Kodachrome slide, it won't look as contrasty as the 8-bit scans we see in this thread.
Of course, the baby's face (and the parents' faces) is brighter on the front, because of the lighting angle.  If the baby has been sunbathing for hours, then the father is crispier than George Hamilton.

Got the A7SIII as wanted a small body that could do 4k120 10bit with high calibre AF tracking for gimbal work, and more.
Coming from the EVA1 and GH5.
No footage yet to show. Haven’t used it on a job yet but I’ve took it for a casual spin in the park.
Is the hype real? Not sure yet. Need more time.
    Some observations:
    1. The body is very very light. The buttons are nice to press. The screen is a little thin. The menu button is in the wrong place. The grip is far better than before. It’s much bigger.
    2. The EVF is insane. Never seen an EVF that clear and sharp, ever.
    3. Menu’s make sense, finally. Woo woo.
    4. AF tracking is great. Feels like cheating. I’m not sure how I feel about it as part of the craft though. Feels less rewarding, if that makes sense? Lovely on a gimbal though.
    5. Working on a screen this small makes me feel disjointed from the scene. Much less clarity than the EVF. Good I’ve got the Ninja V to test then!
    6. Dynamic range is impressive. Very nice roll off.
    7. There’s a “Shockless” WB. When you change it, it transitions smoothly while recording. Same with ISO and shutter speed. Nice!
    8. How am I using ISO 100 in Slog3? Thought this was BANNED.
    8. Rolling shutter looks gone. Ran off. Away.  Thank the Lord.
    9. Battery life - hmmm. Not Panasonic standards.
    10. Tamron 70-180 seemed a bit drunk with close distance AF.
    11. Image looks quite clinical. Used ProMist 1/4 - not judged it yet. Seems better. Will decide later.
    12. Why is the skin tone in FCPX yellow looking when the skin is on the line in the vector scope? Not that the skin tones are bad (they are good off the line),  just doesn’t make sense. Maybe I’m blind.
    13. Colour is better. I’m not sure how much better yet. Definitely an improvement.

I need to get this thing on a proper shoot. Got a triple music video shoot in Turkey coming up so I’m going to throw it in the deep end on that one.
Overall, I’m impressed so far but I can’t help feel a slight bit of disappointment when Canon announced the C70, which is the camera I described some years back as the one I would love to have. Now it exists. Funny world.

Background: user TheBilalFakhouri has unlocked correctly framed real time preview for EOS M and Danne has ported it to 5D3. Previously, Magic Lantern high res modes had a preview image that had either correct framing but in unusably slow frame rate black and white or real time colour preview with wrong framing.
Now, however there is high res, real time preview with correct framing.

I'm so sorry you feel offended by my previous post.😘
As you admit yourself not having any geek knowledge to determine the exact usage a NVMe drive; I was just trying to clarify the post you where sharing. It was, in no way, an attack to the filmmakers community that knows shit about technical stuff but still keep re-posting absurdities.

My only goal is to make this great forum a better place with my real life experience (and love.🥰)

I always had a commitment to support the filmmaker community. I can only bow to your message and ask you for ultimate forgiveness.🙏 please, please.

I hope my personal hack last Sunday, on this forum, with an easy way to reset the Canon R5 timer is enough to be absolved.

Please accept my full apologies if you felt I was having condescending tone or look like I was some kind of geek. Even if my degree was related to computer science, believe me; I have tried to stay away from techies and other complicated process my entire life. A quick fact check on my previous post and personal blog should reassure you.
The truce is far less interesting. It's almost sad, even.
    I'm a very simple camera guy. I have been shooting only few days so far;
made a count last year and it was just about 1,000 shooting for the past 15 years. I have put this in my humble website if you like to give a look by following my profile name. I know it's a low and this is obliviously due to my lack of skills as a cameraman too. I really sucks at everything I commit.
My client are obscure companies like Disney, IBM, Apple... as you may check. My eyes start to be full of water when writing this down.

The "Filmmaker" title's is way beyond my reaches as my old age is now a translation of back pain and loss of eyesight.
I might be retiring without even getting the glorious title of "DoP". Ok, you are making me cry now. It was not a good idea to write about this.😢

And you know the worst of all; I don't even own a Canon R5. I had to ask for help here from a fellow member to test and validate my findings. Only this way it have been proven to work.
The saddest thing of all;I have invested on two Sony FS7's few years back and may never be able to shoot with a DSLR. I',m stuck using cine lens and other heavy gear forever.
That mean that I will not use my hack for myself and will donate the entire result to the the community I was hoping to join once.

Thank you for listening. Here is love again ❤️💖❤️for you and the beautiful movies you have been making all over the world that I can see nowhere.

So I took the plunge. One Panasonic ambassador told me about an interesting offer with a shop in France. Besides the Panasonic offer with the Sigma 45mm offered for free, this shop will give you 3 years more warranty + a free battery. I thought it was a good deal so I pre-ordered it. I am pretty sure I would do it as I need another body to complement my S1H but this offer made me purchase it right away.
So it should arrive by the end of september/beginning of october. I will put it through its paces as I have some interesting jobs coming along, especially one shooting a documentary for the french national television service (France Television) if it is delivered in time.
So I'll give you all my first feedback really quick I think.
Pretty excited by this camera as it is the one I was waiting for in the L-mount system : a smaller camera than my S1H that could still shoot awesome video to match with the bigger brother, being quite smaller to be my B-cam/gimbal cam, also my main stills camera, and one that I could bring everyday to shoot some street and mundane photography (without the hassle to release the S1H from the rig/cage between pro gigs) and one camera that I could take on vacation without sacrificing any quality in stills picture and video.
