Dude everybody and their momma knows the r5 overheats at this point, and nobody likes that. But lets just only post news, questions, videos, workaround or fixes for the r5 in this topic. There is no point in repeated hate or canon bashing, its just spam.

IBIS on S1 is really incredible. It was better than my former Z6, which was better than A7iii in many tests. I read that it is on par with the GH5 one. With careful use, plus a dual-is enabled lens, like the 24-105, plus a touch of digital stab with resolve, I had almost completely locked-on shot. Using EF lenses is not good, really. You'll find a MC-21 compatibility list (from many user reports) here : https://www.tttphotography.com/sigma-mc-21-ef-l-lens-adapter-compatibility/
I used it with a Canon 100-400 L iii and a 50 1.8 stm. Franckly, the 100-400  performs very well, even with the TC 1.4 iii attached. The 50 1.8 is so so, so does the 200 f2.8 ii I also tried (it goes back and forth before acquiring AF). To keep in mind : no continuous AF with this castrated Sigma adapter.
In short, for photography, it is miles from what we can see with Sony and Sigma MC-11. For video, it is a bit useless, outside the "single AF" before shooting type of use. There is a new electronic adapter (viltrox if I remember, but not sure) ; I read that is better than Sigma on many lenses.

Its a huge shame that  other camera manufacturers don't follow Blackmagics example of running video via USB to a SSD drive.  This would be a better solution to the R5 than an external recorder.  You could eliminate the card and still record for longer periods on something much lighter and not battery powered than an external recorder.
If the R5 has this function and allowed longer recording times, including even 8K RAW and 120fps 4K to it, I would buy the camera.
As it stands, internal is too unreliable and external risky due to micro HDMI and too bulky for what I would buy the camera for.

Everybody here agrees that the R5 has overheating problems, but whether or not it's a deal breaker depends on the users usecase. For me, the R5 seems to offer something very useful and I have therefore ordered the camera fully aware of the overheating. It seems like this makes me a canboy from your point of view, and you seem to refuse to acknowledge that the R5 might work well for users with different needs than you. My last Canon camera is the 6D from 2012 and I own newer cameras from both Sony and Panasonic. The R5 will enable me to retire my Sony camera and 6D, while my GH5 will cover the the cases where the R5 falls short.

I gotta pull you up on this, just check out Sony years back and even this week people are still posting about Sony overheating workarounds, there's loads of videos on this recently:

What's up with the overly myopic agenda against Canon on here with some of you guys? It's like Canon broke up with you or something. It's just gear.

You do not have to run a dummy battery. The workaround seems to be not having a card in camera, while you can still use the LP-E6NH batteries in cam.
The 'Enginnerring Filmaker' guy seems to be determined to find out...  I guess we'll see.

This is it. Only canboy's persist in coming up with increasingly comical 'workarounds' rather than admit it's a lemon.

Curious that they would have such brand loyalty when they've being royally screwed by Canon - but that's fanboys for you. Logic and reason left the building a long time ago!

Um, it was just proven yesterday that you can record 4 hours continuous of 4K HQ to an external recorder like the Ninja V, with no card inserted and with a dummy battery.  And then apparently, its a quicker cool down (i.e 5min) and then u can record again. Check out "NoLife" channel on YT.  That's plenty of record time for most if not everyone.
So it seems recording high res video internally has overheating issues only.

+ even if hollywood graders are able to turn it into something beautifull, it will take them a lot more time then grading something from arri. Time is money as well.

Can you point to where I said URSA Mini 4.6K in my list rather than the global shutter equipped URSA Mini 4K ?
I mean, you even quoted BM Ursa Mini 4K from my list in your reply for fucks sake.
You might has well have said there is no global shutter on a Sony RX100 if you're going to try and be a smart arse and quote cameras that I didn't mention.
There has been absolutely no "GS sensor wars" in any years let alone recent ones and I've got no idea where you've got that idea from.

You mean aside from all the footage on YouTube from (off the top of my head) BM Production 4K Camera, BM Ursa Mini 4K, Digital Bolex, AJA Cion, Sony F35, Sony F55 and the countless numbers of video camera made that had a CCD sensor ?

Well Red is a terrible company, but hey they got their image going for them. We are all used to seeing it in movies, so I might buy one, prolly not this year. As I dont have any video work lined up anymore.
But its a tradeoff IQ vs usability. And I guess its far more easy to earn money with a camera that has more features like AF and IBIS. But those are not the projects I want to do mostly. So might be better to buy a hybrid, make a lot more money and with that money buy a RED as well.

So then when people talk about arri colors or red colors. That's all shill is it? There is nothing cinematic about those images? There is nothing cinematic about the old ccd raw cameras like the digital bolex? - that's shill too if I say that I prefer the bolex image to the sterile image of a sony?
You won't get one mirrorless camera that even gets close to the look of something like an arri.
Over-sharpened, bad skin tones, terrible under mixed lighting.
If we take your statement to its logical conclusion you would have to agree that there is no difference between the image of a a7siii and a7iii. That I can agree with.

Apparently you can extend the external recording life in the 4K HQ mode (30fps) if you remove any cards from within the R5:

Yeah did kinda like this footage, nothing mind blowing but looks like stup up from mirrorless and dslr's type camera's. And I did not like the first footage that was released of the komodo, the dynamic range looked kinda low at the first video's, but just also saw that comparision video with the pocket 6K and it has similar DR to the pocket 6K, highlight rolloff is nicer though so it might have a stop over the pocket 6K.  So this might have my interest again also. Waiting on some more comparison video's and actual commercials shot with it.

I watched Philip Blooms sequel film, and I came to the exact same conclusion- it looks thin. Same as the sII. At the right fingers any footage can be fixed and improved, I'm just not convinced Sony have made the leap into 'doesn't need to be touched and it looks right' territory.

I understand what rolling shutter is.
Let me explain even more clearly.  If I pick up a camera and shake it while recording, I get motion in the footage because the camera is pointing in a different direction when each frame was exposed.  This is called camera motion.  If that motion is caused by something like a smooth pan or tilt or is very gradual and smooth, then the motion will have a certain aesthetic, but if that motion is not smooth, but is very jerky with lots of small motion, then it will have a different aesthetic.
Engaging a Global Shutter so that the whole frame begins and ends it's exposure at the same time (hey look - I did know what a global shutter is!) does not negate the fact that the camera is facing a slightly different direction each time a frame was exposed.  IBIS, on the other hand, actually does negate the fact that the camera is facing a slightly different direction each time a frame was exposed, and under the right situation, will remove that motion from the footage.
I get that you dislike the aesthetic of RS, and so switching to GS "fixes" it for you, but I dislike jittery camera motion, which GS does not fix.
I'd link to a video explaining the differences between IBIS and GS in order to reflect back your level of condescension when you fail to understand what someone is saying and automatically respond by thinking you're smarter than them, but I don't think that anyone would have made a video on the topic because the differences are obvious.  Or so I thought.
