BenEricson got a reaction from PannySVHS in Sony PMW-F3 with 2500 hours on it. Should I buy it?
Just to be clear, the Video Assist only does ProRes HQ 422. The benefit of the 444 model when using the video assist is to get 60p through one single SDI cable.
If I still owned it, I would get one of these low profile mounts to make it even cleaner.

BenEricson got a reaction from mercer in Sony PMW-F3 with 2500 hours on it. Should I buy it?
Just found an old project I shot. These are some stills from a piece I shot 3 and a half years ago. Shot with the 85mm Zeiss. It's too damn shallow but I think the softness works okay for a close up.

BenEricson reacted to kye in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K
Very impressive. Almost didn't watch it as the thumbnail doesn't do it any kind of justice whatsoever!

BenEricson got a reaction from greenscreen in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K
I've shot with both quite a bit. I really prefer the bmmcc or bmpcc skin tone, color and highlights. The P4K or P6K is much better camera all around and is a lot more user friendly, but strictly image wise, the bmmcc and bmpcc in my opinion, produce much more unique and film like images.

BenEricson reacted to Tulpa in Shooting "C-Roll" and mental health
Nice post Kai.
Of course I also love to roll through old material of the way things were. Often it does have value. But (as we know) there is a profound sickness (narcissism?) unfolding in and around the need to capture (archive) our lives. I guess it comes down to intention. If it's mindless vacant crap done to stroke the ego via social media, then I balk. But this is larger than just me, so who am I to say... and I do understand the underlying need to connect which is human enough. But then, it becomes about 'what' is being shared. And then of course, there is the 'profitibility' side of things which is a huge loaded gun... as our biosphere heaves and groans.
I actually feel sorry for the guy in the clip. There literally tens of thousands of these guys who all look the same, sound the same though they see themselves as unique and special. If it were up to me, I would send him to live with the Papuans for a decade to unlearn what he has. And of course... no camera allowed.
But that's no answer either 😉

C - roll? I wonder if he is down at the patent office as I write this.

Why have all of the Komodo listings been removed from sites like BH?

BenEricson reacted to Oliver Daniel in is lensbaby naff?
Yes, Lensbaby’s add character into the lenses that you can modify to your taste.
For instance, the Twist 60 has a petzval effect and the Sweet 50 has a dramatic “sweet spot” effect. You can’t do this with a normal tilt shift lens.
Also they do standalone lenses. The Sol45 gives a stunning warped bokeh effect, the Burnside 35 a wide angle swirl effect. The Velvet range, a soft focus dreamy effect.
I love the Omni filter kit. I initially dismissed that system from the online samples but after using it, it can help you produce incredibly abstract and ethereal images.
These are not lenses for anything moving fast. The focus can be so unbelievably shallow at the most extreme usage case. It takes a very delicate approach. Also I wouldn’t shoot in a softer recording option such as line skipped 1080p 200fps.
I’ve only been using them the last few months, and recently on some pro shoots. The image and character certainly turns heads and gets people asking excitable questions.
I sound like a Lensbaby ambassador haha. I am not. These would be terrible lenses for some people. They are not for everyone. But they are certainly not naff. For the right purpose, they are absolutely excellent.

Same! Is a pity they still sell for so much secondhand.
But that just proves what a smash hit in this niche the DB16 was.

BenEricson got a reaction from PannySVHS in Not safe to power monitor and camera from same power source?
I setup my Sony F3 and the BM Video Assist to be powered from the same SWIT sony mount battery. I used this setup for a few years with no issues.

BenEricson reacted to fuzzynormal in Every camera launch day on YouTube
I bounce on and off YT. Never followed anyone, probably never will. I know channels exist with lots of info relevant to whatever you may like, but paying close attention to any of them seems like a chore. Besides, it's a destination, on the popular side, mostly for those that are easily influenced. The ones pulling cash on the platform are not called "influencers" for nothing.
Pop culture is never as interesting as it pretends to be. It's not designed to be that way. And exceptions tend to prove the rule.

BenEricson got a reaction from gethin in diy in front of sensor ND
Exactly. It shouldn’t be. My Bolex from the 60s has an internal ND slot built in... Takes two seconds to drop in a filter. The cost and development required wouldn’t give companies a high enough ROI... So nobody does it.
I think I remember someone developing a internal ND for the original black magic pocket. If I remember correctly, it took a few minutes to install.

BenEricson reacted to currensheldon in Canon Cinema EOS C70 - Ah that explains it then!
Oof, hate to admit it but this is close to the camera I've been wanting for 4-5 years. A small, compact cinema camera with all the bells and whistles (ND, xlr, etc). I think Panasonic would have been smart to do this with the S1H - make it a bit bigger, add NDs, mini XLRs, and charge an extra $500-1000. That would have quieted some of the AF chatter too.
Canon is frustrating, especially right now, but this does look pretty amazing.

BenEricson reacted to Hanriverprod in Canon Cinema EOS C70 - Ah that explains it then!
Super 35mm 4K DGO sensor (same as the Cinema EOS C300 Mark III)
No IBIS
RF Mount
Internal ND (10 Stops)
CLog 2 & CLog 3
4:2:2 10bit onto SD cards up to 4K120 and 2K180
No RAW capability internally at launch
BP-A batteries
Price: $6299 USD
Supposedly these are the leaked specs making the rounds on the internet.
$6299 for 10 bit 4K 120 and Canon colors or $3500 for 10 bit 4K 120 and zombie skintones you gotta fiddle around with masks and cc for hours everytime there's a face in the frame.

BenEricson reacted to DFason in Blackmagic Micro Cinema Super Guide and Why It Still Matters
First outing with the camera. handheld with a 24-105. Loved the camera. I need to adjust a couple things but for the most part a near perfect camera for me. It was extremely dark with the forest canopy. I'll try the Sigma 18-35 next.

BenEricson got a reaction from Avenger 2.0 in c100 mkii vs BMPCC (4k or 6k)
It really depends what you're shooting. For run and gun / quick setup, the C series cameras are hard to beat.
You might want to consider a used C300 Mk2. The prices have really dropped and the images from those cameras are absolutely beautiful and very easy to use like the C100 mk2. You'd feel right at home.

No joke, but when I saw the title of this thread that is what I came here to write!
Sunlight is best.
Thus light modifiers can be the best investment, to shape what you've already got.

BenEricson reacted to Cliff Totten in EOSHD testing finds Canon EOS R5 overheating to be fake
90% of us here are NOT shocked about this R5 stuff. We have been watching the industry do this same sort of crap for 20+ years. Camera crippling is a necessity in the camera industry. Its a vital strategy to separate, split and divide camera models into various customer teirs. Without crippling, every company's fleet gets overlapped and consumer cannibalism goes wild.
So yeah....if anybody is in the 10% "shocked" catagory,...then shame on you. I have to laugh as either you are a complete industry "noobie" or you literally just have NOT been paying attention whatsoever....not even a little bit!
I posted at the beginning of the year that the R5 would have extremely limited recording restrictions due to a Cannot source that tipped me off to this.
This was a calculated marketing decision, NOT a mistake in any way.
Sadly.....camera crippling has served companies very well for 20+ years. It will still be here long after all of us are gone.

BenEricson reacted to Stanly in I bought a Canon EOS R5 - potential overheating solutions
That topic has nothing to do with the issue: R5 in 4KHQ overheats while browsing menus and doesn't when filming externally without a card.
