I wouldn't worry about the specs of other cameras, the S1H is a known reliable workhorse ,the R5 seems like an unreliable show pony that I can't see anyone using on a serious video production, the A7s3 looks more solid but we're yet to see what the time restrictions with heat management mean for shooting times...
As mentioned above the 4k60p on the R5 is bad, better to have a high quality crop than a sub standard full frame image.
And yes the RAW update will take this camera above the other 2 for cheaper more efficient and reliable RAW if that's your thing.
4k 120p is not something I would use very often I'm already cringing at the amount of unmotivated slow mo that is going to be filling up Youtube - but if it's really important then let's see what the quality of the Sony is.
All the S1H is really lacking over the other 2 is good AF imho

The Sony and Canons need a serious face off. And the S1H to the mix, for the purpose of getting the ballpark right.

Well 2 videos now say outside it shuts down before the R5, and that’s in 24p in the last video. The R5 has a usable 24p mode with unlimited recording.
Wait a minute, the A7S III shuts down in 23 min when recording in 85F weather, in 24P?! When the Canon can record unlimited line skipped 4K24p, an more time in 4K24P HQ?

I am waiting for Andrew’s post about suing Sony.

Joke appart, I still think that overall the  Sony will be more usable for people who need to shoot longer videos: it seems the Sony recovers from over heating in minutes and has no problem in interior scenarios
For people like me who do not need longer recording time (interviews, production...) the question is still open.

    Winner winner chicken dinner.

It sounds like this camera has more traditional overheating problems, such as when in direct sun.

The odd thing about the Canon is it seems to overheat at the exact same time regardless of direct sun or indoors.

Sony needs to get rid of the low light NR though. Thats a killer.

So the Canons have overheat issues and get bashed to death, memes and all.. but the new Sony, who in a clear comparison test shuts down completely under 23 minutes and before the R5 sitting next to it.. and it gets a free pass? Kinda sounds like double standards.

What I discovered is that most of camera reviewers are either incapable of distinguishing a high resolution image from lower detailed image, or just lie about that.

It does have. At ISO640 and ISO16000.

And the ISO performance has been stated to be better by 1 stop from all mid to high ISOs.

"Crushing" seems a bit hyperbolic. It definitely has advantages, but so does the S1H.

Precision Camera out of Texas with the R5 @ 03:32 talks about over heating... it's obviously hot, he says it didn't shut off but theyre obviously going to try and maintain those pre-orders so who knows.

I have not seen Blackmagic make a mistake camera wise, so I have to trust that they have thought this through.  If it looks better than other 8k cameras even if it has to start with 12k and subsample then that's fine.  A big part of them getting the $10k price tag is if it is the best 8k camera output. I hope it is and that this sensor tech will trickle down.  Maybe an 8k version to get perfect 4k in a pocket pro 8k for $3000 in the future.  Hopefully, 14 stops will be usable without excessive noise or some fix pattern issue.  Hopefully the new sensor tech will not have weaknesses in low light like previous generations.

Exactly. It should make the camera relevant for years. 4K in 2020, 8K in 2022, and 12K whenever that comes. But honestly I see huge use for 12K capture of 4K stock footage.

Oh no! The megapixel race has come to cinema.
$10,000 with an 80 megapixel Super 35mm sensor, the new URSA Mini Pro shoots 12K BRAW.
The technology in this camera is practically unheard of.

I also want to add that the S1 doesn't suffer from overheating issues. And it does not have a fan like the S1H does.
I filmed a ceremony the other day with 2 camera's. It must have been 35 degrees celcius that day. Never overheated and could easily record an hour of footage.
In other words, the camera doesn't even need a fan. It just needs to be better designed and most likely a bit bigger.
But we all know that Canon did this, kind of, on purpose. It is the CRIPPLE HAMMER at play here we all were expecting.

S35 sensor does go well in a M43 mount as JVC showed.
Blackmagic have such great innards. It is time to step up the game and put them in a camera body worthy of the image, sensor, codec, and touchscreen UI.
A $2500 Pocket camera with EVF and IBIS would be a roaring success.
