when I said I was gonna make a youtube miniseries and asked for advice, a bunch of people on here said Uhhh... maybe you should start with something shorter...
    and ***they were RIGHT***
i ended up making a 4 min film – WAY WAY SMARTER IN EVERY WAY. glad i did. just throwing it out there
that being said, the more commercial your project is, the more you need to worry about shit like this. my short is, at best,  proof of concept that i can make films – im not trying to directly profit from it in any way financially. of course i have releases, but what are you going to sue me for, 30% of $0? good luck with that
my point @salim is that IF YOU MIGHT EVER SELL THIS FILM FOR MONEY, TO ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, YOU NEED RELEASES ON EVERYTHING. that is the professional answer
the fear of course being that some a-hole sues you in the future, after your project becomes profitable. if thats a non-issue, then who cares. but you have to make that determination
finally, there is the concept in all of this that people should understand the release theyre signing. if they dont its actually worthless in court – not that that comes up, but its like a cop reading you your miranda rights, You have the right to remain silent, etc, and then asking, DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IVE TOLD YOU?
a conversation like that means a lot more to me than a piece of paper. when it comes to hardcore IP issues, have a talk with ppl, and get them to sign something. if its an actor or location release for an indie short, dont trip too hard, but at least make the actors sign a standard release

Exactly! Even if they feel they don't have anything (sad! But oh well) to put in a new D3x00 they still feel compelled to update it to a "new" model! As those Christmas buyers want to buy the "latest" DSLR! Can't have an "old" camera competing against the latest shiny new Rebel from Canon!

And yes, gives them an excuse to discount their "old" model! So those extreme bargain hunters have something to latch onto as well.
I'll be disappointed though if their next D5x00 doesn't get 4K! Even if just a basic 4K mode like in the D7500

Just stop. The Fuji will have a problem with waxy skin at ISO above 800 (not very film like) and the Blackmagic looks lackluster to me, extremely digital looking as you call it, from what I’ve seen. And that tiny sensor won’t make anyone happy shooting above 400 ISO.
I did own the GH5 and would never ever use it above ISO 800. So please show me some of your ISO 5000 footage that looks so spectacular.

But have they? It seems that only 18 months after release, a lot of GH5 users are abandoning the camera for other brands. At $2000, it was very expensive for a m4/3 camera, no matter how much they gave you. And I still don’t really know if they have made any profit from the GH5? Instead, I see a FF Panasonic as a, me too, attempt to get into an increasingly competitive market and if the rumors are correct, it won’t be a cheap cover charge. And then this jump to higher MPs which I assume is for their silly desire to bring 8K video to market. A 12mp a7siii killer with IBIS and lowlight video would have been a way better foray into FF in my opinion.
As the rumors suggest, no IBIS, no PDAF, no retro fitted FF lenses (well maybe some Leica if they use that mount) and no existing Professional photographer user base and I just don’t understand what a high MP FF camera from Panasonic is supposed to accomplish. Now if it has internal Raw, it will have my attention. At $3000+ it may just be a double take though.

    I'd recommend simple test.
Take one big mirror and stay in front of it at golden hour, asking loudly: "Do I need new camera for my next masterpiece?"
If you hear quiet insider voice saying that you are at the level of possession when making masterpiece  depends exclusively of you - you are artist candidate.
But if - looking with suspicion to a mirror - you hear suggestive insider voice that ask you "Are this mirror autofocused you enough quickly for deep contemplation? Is your skintone correct? Are you mirrored with enough dynamic range to be able to answer sensible? Does this mirror has the best Out-of-Mirror image to provide natural i.e. "ungraded" answering? ... than you are candidate for very high-ranking between popular contributors in EOSHD asylum.

Tried out the Z7 today at Allen's Camera in NJ, came away extremely impressed. Very responsive (quick to turn on, no hesitation in the menus) , beautiful EVF, great IBIS (smoother than Sony) and the video tracking for me was better than what I saw in the A7III. 24-70 was very sharp and focused well, but lacked character for me in it's rendering. 35 1.8 was incredible, razor sharp, great rendering. They did not have the 50mm there.

What floored me the most was video AF with my Nikon AF-s glass. It was excellent! The focus motors are not quiet, but the focus was smooth and didn't hunt at all. Would not hesitate to use for event work. The adapter seemed rock solid when mounted on the camera.

Obviously would need to use for an extended period of time to see other issues, but so far I think they have a winner.

It's probably a mix of both, honestly. They haven't innovated in the DSLR/Mirrorless market in a long, long time. DPAF is the exception, but they've been falling behind tech wise for so long. They have hardly even improved their 1080p over the last 8 or so years; its still a soft, muddy image even as cameras a fraction of their price produced very good 4k video.
Between not wanting to hurt their C-line and being comfortable coasting along/not devoting resources to the DSLR/Mirrorless market, they've now found themselves behind technologically I think. I dare say that might even be the reason they ended up giving the EOS R C-Log and external 10 bit 4:2:2, because the rest of their offering was essentially dated tech based on a dated sensor that apparently isn't capable of performing at the same standards as their competitors.

It isn't the logo that's the problem really, it's the relationship which put it there.
As soon as you have a personal friendship or a business relationship, you have inherent bias.
I don't expect these relationships not to exist, it would be very unrealistic.
However the internet is clearly evolving in a worrisome direction, where the sites with the most followers have the prime positions in our research via search engines and on YouTube, are the sites MOST under the influence of the manufacturers. I think the influence of the content with 'lifestyle aspirations' is eroding credibility as well. There's a reason so many hands-on sessions now happen under tightly controlled conditions organised by a PR company - so they can shape the editorial visually, and make it glossier. Again here there is a balance to be had. It is unrealistic to expect the DPReview team to post only pictures of ducks.
When a camera company once reached out to me, they invited me to such an event and I said no. I told them I'd rather just have the camera on my desk, that's all I need. They said it "isn't something we do". I think that was Sony. Once, Canon reached out - after a more positive blog post - and gave me a 5D Mark IV to review for a few days. Honestly it was very nice of them, but because I didn't feel like trashing it and throwing their effort back in their face, I just decided to send them back the camera and say nothing. I think you all know my opinion of video on that camera anyway. It's not good. And I don't need any pressure on my to either say nothing, or only the positive stuff (that would have been a very short blog post).
I think if negative reviews are to be extinct, customers less knowledgable (what's a 4K 1.8x crop?!), brands more powerful and marketing disguising itself as editorial to the point where it is absolutely normal and accepted, then the internet has basically been bought by the corporate world. And we cannot allow that to happen.
By the way, the absolute worst site for corporate influence for cameras in my opinion, is Cinema5D.

And this is why I read eoshd.com.
I also for 10 years wrote regularly on my own tech blog (I managed to get 3 million views a month), an indeed many big companies invited me to their launches, until I wrote non-so-favorable things about them and I was suddenly (and still are, proudly) on their black list.
I think government entities should regulate these events, which in the end are unspoken bribery. Journalists and bloggers and whatnot should NOT accept these invitations to all-expense paid trips to enjoy themselves instead of doing a professional job.
What should be done instead? Maybe send a camera to their homes and have them test the equipment in an unbiased way, and stop the stupid practice of creating black lists for people who simply speak the truth.
These companies should actually be grateful of the people who tell them things right on their face, so that they can improve their products and compete better, instead of getting praise for idiots and low-lifes who do not have the courage and the balls to behave like a true professional.
Kudos for you, you are not alone and that's why so many people like me do free PR for you so more people read your unbiased opinions.

As opposed to a $500 35mm, a $1100 24-105, a $2300 50 and a $3000 zoom? You're seriously bashing Nikon's initial rollout compared to Canon's? How many are going to buy a $3000 zoom or a $2300 prime over adapting EF lenses? The whole R line is based around Canon shooters adapting their lenses, hence the THREE adapters. Right now they're both counting on existing DSLR users adapting lenses until they round things out. But what's worse is the fact that they've shown zero sensor advancement in the two years since the 5d4 was released. We already know Nikon has 2.8 zooms and a number of primes coming in the next year. All of your Zed bashing are issues Canon has as well, combined with no IBIS and a crappier sensor that's a couple generations behind current Sony offerings.
Are you a paid Canon troll?

Three native lenses champ. A slow zoom and two expensive f/1.8 primes. Astonishing. Talking adapted? What a joke. Get a clue.
Bahahaha yeah except Nikon are locking down the mount and protocols.
Got a bit more of a clue then some mindless fanboy spouting his mouth off.
Great and still only useful for F mount fanboys... which is what I said to begin with. Not going to build up a base of F mount lenses just to mount on a camera that is flavour of the month with some small ‘spec’ advantage. The ‘system’ has ZERO enticing about it (again unless you’re already a die-hard Nikon fanboy, in which case it will be the ‘best’ anyway).
As for all that for $2k. I wouldn’t care if it was $500 I still have no use for it. If you gave me one for free I’d sell it to fund something useful.
I’m pretty sure there has never been a more pointless turd of a camera...

They said that all their new lens where design with video in mind. There are only haters that just want to spread all type of fud about Nikon and video. They have put speed setting for the AF in video where you can speed it up or down, this with 10 bit, ibis, Nlog etc. make for a very powerful package for video shooters. They even added a pin in their tripod mount, might seem mundane but try using a dslr or Mirrorless camera a whole day for pro work and you would see how anoying and distracting when your camera is always spinning. If even this they thought about, then they really took video very very seriously.

3 vs 4 lenses really isn't a wide gap, especially when 2 are going to be incredibly expensive. The 28-70 will likely be $2500+ and the 50/1.2 will probably be close to $2k. We'll see if they announce a roadmap. Nikon has the zoom trinity coming by the end of next year. Its not about where they are now, its where they will be in 2-3 years once the system is more rounded and gen-2 bodies come out. Canon has a long way to just catch Nikon, much less Sony. The first R is incredibly underwhelming, even for Canon apologists.
