I say mostly wait.

Sell your D700 and get a used D750 as a stop gap. Gives you a second better video body and a better photo body. Wait on everything else. Get the Sony if you want to drop Nikon. I did it, but it was a relatively rough transition, and a lot of your Nikon lenses wont AF properly on the Sony for your photo work.

If Nikon makes a good mirrorless stick with them, if not switch to another brand.

Sometimes I'm surprised the a7S isn't banned from being exported because it has military technology in it :-P

What huge beard? I didn't see one in the video

If the price is a "bit high", maybe he has one he can sell us cheaper?

Why don't people on dpreview rip into him every time he posts?!

And RED is no longer alone in the "greater than 4K" market, as Panasonic, Kinefinity, & others have offerings in this niche as well.

The reason is Canon NEVER intentionally sparked DSLR filmmaking, they stumbled onto having the crown of the #1 choice for DSLR filmmaking entirely by chance it sometimes seem.

Remember how the Canon 50D was a whisker away from having video in it. But was only thanks to Nikon introducing video in the Nikon D90 that Canon felt that they had to respond with their own HDSLR camera. (because Canon and Nikon watch each other like a hawk)

That crop is waaaaaaaaaay worse! As the 5Dmk4 has no way to easily handle this crop, as the EF mount means no access to native mount lenses designed with that crop in mind, and also no focal reducers can be used.

Canons (unlike Panasonic) have historically been known to overheat.

Thanks Mark, lots of solid points there for Godox

Because Panasonic/Sony/BMD/Kinefinity/etc on a per $ basis do far less "crippling" than Canon does.

So yes they segment it a bit, but at least even at the lower / mid range of their selections, you're getting far better value for you $ than the equivalent priced one from Canon.

Canon is a target of bashing exactly because of this contradiction of them being the #1 camera company and being poor value for money due to holding back more than others do.

(am sure if Canon was say #6 ranked player in the market, then no one would give a flying hoot, and we wouldn't see the "bashing" like we do now in forums)
Exactly. I've sometimes felt that Panasonic's camera division is a bit like the mainstream version of BMD.

Historically we will plateau when IQ becomes close to the limits of our perception, HOWEVER we are nowhere near these limits yet.
Think 4k is enough because movie theatres were fine in 2K? What about VR capture - if your field of view is 120 degrees (just to pick a nice number) then that means you need 6k to spread 2K over your entire vision, but that's not what we're talking about here - we're talking about the angle of view of a TV - which is something more like 45degrees, which means you need 8 * 2K horizontal, just to properly render sitting in a room watching a 2K TV. What about VR simulation of a 4K TV? Forgetaboutit!!
But why just talk about resolution - let's talk about pixel depth.. what is the DR of the human eye? When they get "retina DR" devices, what will the bit depth of that video signal look like across that amount of dynamic range? I'm thinking that 10-bit isn't going to cut it at that point.
And we're only talking 2D here.... what happens when we want 3D environments to be simulated from AI processed video feeds? Just mount a grid of cameras in the ceiling perhaps 12 inches apart and feed all those to an AI that creates a 3D VR environment and UH OH! The AI doesn't have enough information to go by and so the virtual attendees of the latest Hollywood whatever event can't see the expressions on the stars faces (or tell the difference between Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe!) so we need to up the resolution. Now deaf people can't lip read, up it again.
Now the FBI gets interested and decides that the tech is now ready for AI facial microexpression monitoring at all airports and other critical locations - more resolution needed!
To many of you this will sound like science fiction, but you will be proven wrong. if you want evidence of this - pick up your smartphone and start talking to your virtual assistant, and then cast your mind back 35 years when many people still had Black and White Television.

Wasn't ML released on April 1st?
I've been in contact with Arikhan. If this is a joke he's been rather convincing both publically and privately. If it turns out to be a bluff, it is what it is, we got played, that's the tradition of April Fool's.
I think whatever the situation, you can't denie this has many of us intrigued, including yourself. A great many of us have felt through out the years of onwership and use that the NX1 had more technical potential then Samsung enabled. I think our very own Andrew Reid would agree. This possible revelation plays right into the hands of these speculations, and if true, its not only good for existing and potential NX1 owners, but the broader mirrorless market altogether. This would perk up the likes Panasonic, Sony and Fuji for sure. It would be a serious call to action.

I'd like to answer your question by quoting a Samsung manager - his claims are exactly saying all you need to know (without speculating) about possibilities / limitations of this beast:

I wanted to come back to the data-readout speed. Is the camera actually capable of recording video at 240 frames?
JK: No.
DE: Oh, because the codec isn't fast enough to compress and format it?
JK: Actually, we just didn't implement that functionality, but the DRIMe V and the sensor could do it. When the guys in R&D were working on the Samsung Auto Shot feature, they recorded live 28 megapixel, 240 fps "video" to help with the debugging. We didn't see there being an application for that, at least for very, very few people.

Article --> here <-- (September 2014)
Please take time and read it very carefully - in 2018 it's still a stunning piece of technology, undefeated in many ways...Many features are already therein...
So, no doubt - it can be done. At 28 MP. Period.

Did the focal reducer for NX1 turn out to be viable? If so, that.

Are there focal reducers for Fuji's X mount? I assume that, if so then go for this.

Otherwise ditch the obsession with "full frame" and go with a Panasonic G80/G85 for maximum bang for buck value.
(or alternatively, is 4K *really* essential for the very low budget shoots? Then you could go for a Nikon D750 or Sony a7S mk2 etc)

Seems like they also announced a set of Cine lenses to go with it. Also some talk about a new user interface and an integrated Movcam wireless focus system.
Mavo LF Base ISO 1600 and supposed to be cleaner than previous cameras.
