I've never used ebay to sell anything due to stories like yours. I only use Craigslist, only accept cash, and only meet in person. Craigslist has its own long list of problems and you will deal with some of the biggest time wasters ever, but when it's a cash only in person transaction the scammer and returns problems are non existent. I sold my 5DIII, some lenses, and a couple of drones this way.

My favorite saying is chase the tech not the tech (chase the technique not the technology). It takes a lot for me to buy something new. I have drawers full of ideas that seemed great at the time and either it did not perform like it was advertised or it just wasn't as useful as it seemed once I owned it. Now it takes me weeks just to buy simple things like brackets.

herein2020 reacted to KarlL in EOSHD testing finds Canon EOS R5 overheating to be fake
Very interesting stuff! I'm a hobbyist Canon shooter myself, but I'm still on the EOS 6D since until now I couldn't find anything that really pushes me towards a new camera. The R5/R6 might be the one that actually catch me. However, after reading all of this, I get doubtful.
Besides that I'm an engineer for embedded software / electronics (in automotive) and I would like to share some of my knowledge here.
    1. As horshack already pointed out the temperature written in the EXIF might not be the temperature of the main controller, but the one of another chip that's supposed to be a "good"/"reasonable" representation for the inner camera temperature.
    2. From our electronics I know that we usually measure 4-5 temperatures from different chips and the differences are quite astonishing sometimes. While the main chip under "heavy duty" might be at around 90°C within a few minutes, peripheral chips show the temperature increase with a (for me) surprisingly high delay of a few minutes. This is partly due to the fact that thermal operations take quite some time, especially if the heat distribution medium is air. This depends on the placing of the chips of course.
    3. The issue might not be overheating of the main controller, but of another chip, e.g. of the sensor read out circuit
    4. There has been some discussion about maximum temperatures of electronic chips. It is correct that 90°C is still in the comfort zone of most electronic chips. However, you have to take into account that there is a maximum allowed temperature for surfaces is 65°C (Metal) and 85°C (Plastic) due to safety reasons (Source, as an alternative google "safety standard maximum heat surface", Alternative Source). The second source even limits to 55°C for prolonged usage and 60°C for "Short periods only".
I saw some videos in which they managed to shoot 4k HQ continuously for hours, by removing the cards from the camera. If I combine the "safety" stuff with this I get to the conclusion that the issue might be the memory card getting too hot in terms of safety regulations. Here's my scenario: I record for let's say 45 minutes, before my CFexpress card is full. I want to switch cards quickly -> I directly open the card slot and pull out a card that has a temperature of ~80-90°C. This is not acceptable by means of safety.
The only thing that bothers me then is that the temperature should go down much much faster than what's seen here. Especially, if you look at the "tests" that Jordan from dpreview did, in which he removed cards and battery completely. After that the temperature should go down much faster. Something I can imagine here is that they cannot directly measure the temperature of the memory cards. Due to this they use a formula for calculating cool down times. This formula does not take opening the card slot or changing the card into account.
I hope Canon will release detailed information about this. Because even though I'm a stills shooter only, I don't want to be tricked. And I must admit I'm on the edge to switching to Sony, anyway.

I agree, I never use the GoPro in any situation where I can economically use another camera. With that being said I do think it is possible to hide the fact it is GoPro footage. If you keep the GoPro very level to minimize barrel distortion, only shoot with plenty of light, properly white balance,  shoot using the flat profile and use the WFM in Davinci Resolve to conform it to Rec.709 then apply a final grade on top; people tend to think my underwater and POV footage was shot with my main camera. The problem with most GoPro footage is it is created by people who let the GoPro do whatever it wants in Auto mode.

I think gimbals still have their uses mainly when you need to follow the talent or want to do advanced movements like crane, dolly, truck, etc....but if these are just for personal or holiday videos I definitely would not get a gimbal. Way too much hassle, throw the GoPro on a selfie stick, turn on HyperSmooth and call it a day. I don't know what your audio situation is currently, but if I were in your situation and money was burning a hole in my pocket I'd probably focus on upgrading the audio, getting a travel monopod, etc....endless options. My monopod gets used more than any other stabilization gear I own. Monopods help both for quick lowlight photography shots to run and gun or travel video situations where you just need a few seconds of stable footage. There's also a lot of advanced monopod movements that make them the most versatile tool I own. Here is one example video:

herein2020 got a reaction from austinchimp in How much resolution for YT? Contemplating going back to 1080p
That's a lot of testing but do you want to know what I do? I have a GH5 also, I shoot nearly everything in 8bit 4:2:0 LongGOP 4K 60FPS and deliver every project in 1080P with a 16MB/s or 8MB/s bitrate and not one paying customer has complained about the video quality. I used to go through the same hand wringing over quality until I realized I'm not creating Hollywood blockbusters, my footage is going to be totally trashed by YT compression, and my clients will never notice the difference; they care about the content and have no idea where the quality could have been better.
I also have a C200 and have never shot a single project in RAW...everything is 4:2:0 LongGOP and my clients love it. For both cameras I avoid WDR scenarios whenever possible, I perfectly white balance the scene, and I shoot CLOG3 with the C200 and CinelikeD with the GH5.  Sure 10bit and RAW give you more latitude in post....but in most situations I have found that highlight rolloff and white balance are the two things that will make your footage fall apart in post if you are shooting 8bit. If you can get those right in camera you won't have any problems in post.

If I ever get a big time paying commercial gig in the 5 figure+ range then sure, I'll switch the C200 over to RAW and happily invoice the client for the extra storage and post processing time required or I might even go and rent something even fancier, but until then there is no way I am wasting my storage space, time, or equipment to improve quality that is impossible for the average viewer to see especially when 90% of them will view the footage on a tiny cell phone screen.

Actually in this case yes....I do think absolutely no one should buy the R5 and the R6..want to know why? Because every single buyer of these two cameras proves to Canon that they can get away with selling a camera that is unfit for purpose. So as long as buyers keep rewarding Canon for putting out products that are unfit for purpose guess what Canon is going to keep doing?
Canon IMO is closer than anyone else to creating the perfect hybrid camera (AF, Color Science, ecosystem, lenses, form factor, etc.), unless people vote with their wallets they have no incentive to change that last 10%.

Lets not forget that a lot of posters act like they are producing Hollywood blockbusters. I realized long ago my avg viewer will view my content at 480P on a cell phone. I think in this day and age specs just don't matter. I care more about things like reliability, ecosystem, and ergonomics than video specs.

You beat me to it. I almost didn't get the C200 because of all of the bad press over no 10bit recording options. But after watching a few videos and truly not being able to tell the difference I got the C200 anyway. What Canon did with the 4:2:0 8bit that comes out of that camera is nothing short of incredible. They truly do hold back some secret sauce that is nowhere to be found in their DSLRs. I have yet to shoot raw with the C200 or feel the need to.

You might be surprised to find out that I find the Sony overheating just as bad. I am brand agnostic when it comes to my criticism because if you camera overheats when you want or need to use it, it doesn’t matter what brand it is, its fucking sucks.
Furthermore, I WANT Canon to get their shit together so I can have a Canon mirrorless camera with my holy grail specs of bulletproof 4K up to 120p. Believe me, Canon would have my money. I bash Canon out of disappointment more than anything and hope they fix it.

Ok so I guessed at how long I've had my 5DIV, I guess from now on I should go look at my purchase receipt and scan that in to ensure I am more precise.  We are talking about video here and until Canon provides CLOG3 for the R5 the DR statement is still accurate, but yes the context was video and the current R5's CLOG implementation. You are free to ignore whoever you want, it wouldn't affect me in the slightest either way.

I love the specs on them and the fact they were able to keep it cool in such a small body should really make Canon take notice; I guess I just love the Canon ecosystem so much that I keep hoping something will make them get their act together. In the meantime my current setup works well enough for me that I don't foresee myself buying anything new anytime soon. It is ironic though, the Sigma has better specs than even the rumored Canon Komodo form factor it really speaks volumes to just how restrictive Canon really is.

I agree with you, if they implemented 4K60 even with a crop that would make it more attractive....the fixed back screen does suck though, I love my GH5's screen.

First off who resurrected  this zombie thread?  Anyway, like gt3rs says, 4:2:2 H.265 is not supported at least not yet in the NVIDIA GPUs as you can see from the following chart. I do hope it is something that can be fixed with a driver update and not some sort of HW shortcoming.
I have a Core i9 14 core CPU and an RTX 2080 Ti and my system still had problems editing R5 4:2:2 footage. I was able to get smooth playback initially but it stuttered a bit between clips and after applying two layers of color grading in Davinci Resolve it was unuseable.

I think it will depend on the profit margins for those products. If they keep reusing sensors and tech across bodies and manage to keep the margins high enough they could be profitable given enough volume.  Canon and Nikon's strategy has typically been to flood the market with 'starter' cameras (Rebel series) then if the customer started getting serious about photography get them to move up to a more professional line (7D, 5D, 1D).  The problem is the world is moving past photography and into video and as it does, neither Canon or Nikon adjusted as fast as Sony did. Sony saw a gap in their lineup and went for it.

And apparently it is working for them....at least for now. This is why I say Sony is Canon's biggest problem. Also, even though people downplayed the news that Sony inked a deal with AP News, I think it is a big deal because it shows Sony is very aggressive and finding new ways to move upmarket vs trying to sell in volume at the retailers to buyers who would prefer their smartphones whereas it seems like Canon and Nikon are trying to survive by continuing to do more of the same.

Gerald Undone has done it again, incredible review of the R5 and R6. I am also so glad someone finally pointed out that you cannot do backup recording with either camera and that record limits in 2020 are stupid...so many people seem to not care about those things. He also reached the same conclusions that I reached......they aren't true hybrid cameras without an external monitor.

A surprising finding though was that the DR isn't any better than my 6yr old 5DIV.

Or you can use Joyoshare Media Cutter to edit H.265 files. It is very easy to use for beginners. With Joyoshare, you can trim, rotate, and crop videos.  Also, you can add subtitles and background music to videos. You can customize the resolution and hue, add video and audio effects, etc.

So I can come on here and tell the amateur hybrid camera video makers all about my thick colour, GS (yes! yes! YES!) and other juicy comments designed to reinforce my self built pedestal...
Or I might remain perfectly happy with my A7Siii at -30 degrees, iso 51k at midnight filming the Aurora in Sony thin colour whilst keeping my fingers warm by sticking them into the sensor (thereby ruining the final vestiges of what was terrible IBIS anyway).

I get it, I shoot handheld with my C200 all the time and it has no IBIS but due to it's weight I don't even notice; there's also ways to reduce rolling shutter distortion without GS (cameras with faster scan times, slower camera movements, etc.) and like I mentioned I would love a GS, but I still find IBIS more useful than a GS because for the types of projects that I work on  RS is not a problem for me but camera operator shakiness is (hand holding a GH5 I'd pick IBIS any day over a GS). With a GS but no IBIS I would have to make the GH5 heavier, use a gimbal more often, use stabilized lenses (currently my MFT lenses are 100% manual), etc.
