Geoff_L reacted to Andrew Reid in Panasonic S1 V-LOG -- New image quality king of the hill
Yes the image is playing in the big league.
Hard to show on YouTube. I've decided to self-host the video. I'll upload the higher bitrate version to Vimeo later today.
Here are my thoughts on it so far...

How the process works...
Millions of Russian and Chinese A.I. bots register at forums around the world, beating down the first line defence (Captcha)
Most are obvious when they make their first post. The first post from new registrations here are completely hidden to you guys and only shown for me so I can filter them out. I read the post and make a judgement on whether it's a real person or not. 99% it's easy. 1% of the time, a more sophisticated bot like you describe here will slip through but doing a cut and paste or convincing camera related topic.
This is where I need your help. If you spot repeated behaviour like this and you think it's a bot, please flag them in this topic or email me!

Andrew's video test ! Hope it was not a "supposed to be hidden before the article is online" video accidentally released ? Maybe M83's We Own The Sky Track plays a big role in the feeling, but I really really love the image !

Geoff_L reacted to Kisaha in Canon rush to reassure investors as camera profits plunge 64%
Bring it on! 15 hours work per week is my dream!
Humans are not supposed to work 10-12 hours per day (+ an hour or two go and come back).
Here, all the TV jobs are 10-12 hours, and in some productions it is even more. Most (almost all) of them do not even pay overtime.
Everyone points out the negatives, but constructing machines to do the repetitive shitty jobs is a huge opportunity for the networked humanity to achieve great things (like explore other systems and colonize space e.t.c).
Do we really need people working at McDonalds and Walmart? Is this what Aristotle, DaVinci, Nietzsche, Sagan dreamed of humanity?
I say, bring in the robots, until they revolt, and kill all of us, of course...

Geoff_L reacted to Andrew Reid in RIP Rutger!
Amazing actor.
Embodied Bladerunner's whole concept in one character.
Amazing sense of that he felt the role for real while acting it.
Time to die.
But never to be forgotten in a billion years.
RIP!!

CVP may have been under the assumtion that is was 3 letters, I mean 3 characters also work, but the max is 8 as you can see in my screenshot.
More than 8 won't work.

Thanks again for taking the time for that confirmation, Lars, much appreciated!
I was a little too busy and excited yesterday at the prospect of having access to the VariCam LUTs that had I merely taken the time to RTFM on the matter I would have seen that this LUT naming scheme is actually covered in the S1 Firmware Addendum for the DC-S1 on page F-13 and confirms your "8.3" reporting "to a T"...
<<
• The following LUT data can be used:
– The “.vlt” format, which meets the requirements specified in the “VARICAM
3DLUT REFERENCE MANUAL Rev.1.0”
– File names consisting of up to 8 alphanumeric characters (excluding
extension)
• Save the LUT data with a file extension of “.vlt” in the root directory of the card
(the folder opened when the card is opened on a PC).
>>
...User Manual screenshot from that page below...

Okay, maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but...
That CVP video clearly states that to install LUTs into the S1 that one needs to "...rename it so the name is no longer than 3-letters..." as seen beginning at around the 2:42 Mark here...
Full Frame 4K 4:2:2 10-bit - Panasonic S1 Firmware Update - YouTube: (t=162)
...however, this LUT tutorial from Daniel Peters clearly shows LUTs with names much longer than "3-letters" being installed onto the camera beginning here at around the 1:36 Mark...
How To Install VLOG & LUTS in LUMIX S1 on Vimeo: (t=1m36s)
...perhaps someone with the DMW-SFU2 S1 Filmmaker VLog Update can clarify as to the correct procedure for this? (I'm still waiting to hear back from B&H for my upgrade package!)
Thanks!

Oh, I'm breathing again, the seller just mailed me : my unit is defective (see my images of the sky in a previous page). They send it back to Panasonic and I will receive a new kit soon. Can't wait... ? I must say this is quite a frustrating experience to get your hands on such a camera, but just for some test images !
All I can say for now is the handling and build quality are absolutely outstanding. I liked so much the Nikon Z6 body, but this one bring me closer to what I have always dream of !

@Geoff_L totally get it, I to see the glass as half full
Would you mind clarifying how the slowmotion works? Google only serves me people who guess or start their sentence with "to my understanding"..
What is the highest frame rate in HD, without crop, where you can still manually expose your image?
This is something that actually could tip the scale for me.

OK, sorry, I couldn't resist anymore ...
300€ immediately off, 1 free battery (90€ worth), and the 200€ worth offered VLOG upgrade finished my efforts to resist...
OK, now I have to sell a lot of stuff ahah !

Even without VLOG, I'm loving this camera and floored by the colors and dynamic range. Here are a couple screengrabs from a shoot I was on yesterday, using the HLG profile. I'm very, very excited to get my hands on the log upgrade. I think this is the first time I've ever had a video camera where I'm actually choosing the DR I want scene-to-scene at my discretion, rather than being forced to deal with limitations of the camera. There's plenty of room in the shadows and highlight roll-off is silky smooth. Color me impressed.

Yes, I was considering this option too.
Actually until 150 years ago, we would be part of the same country, the great and glorious Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia!

Ah, just in time, a French shop just posted a video about MC-21 + S1 + 18-35 !! All shots are handheld and in lowlight.
At 34s (guys in red) they use face detection (focus change from one face to another at around 39/40s). They say they are really impressed with this combo.

Geoff_L reacted to Andrew Reid in EXCLUSIVE: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K gets Time of Flight Autofocus with Prototype add-on
The beauty of it for me is the modular main Pocket Controller... I really liked how BTM_Pix just plugs his different tools into that and it acts as a clever wireless bridge to the camera. The manual follow focus dial, shirt pocket size, was lovely to use as well.
It's also amazing that LiDAR, once reserved for the military and sciences, can now be so widely applied and affordably! Just don't mention the price of Arri's system!!
Pocket 4K users will love it.

Geoff_L reacted to mercer in EXCLUSIVE: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K gets Time of Flight Autofocus with Prototype add-on
Well done @BTM_Pix !!! As you know, I recently bought a Micro on the cheap. It was a no brainer decision considering I am going to use my existing c-mount lenses with it, but after seeing this... I think I may invest in a couple native lenses for an eventual P4K purchase.
I assume it works better with certain lenses? Also, does the camera have to move to obtain focus, or can you select your focus point on the screen?

Geoff_L reacted to CyclingBen in EXCLUSIVE: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K gets Time of Flight Autofocus with Prototype add-on
Wow. My wife has been working with LiDAR for an autonomous military vehicle and one of the first questions I asked was "how does it communicate with the cameras?". That was Wednesday. Not only is @BTM_Pix a skilled technician, he's also a mind reader. Well done!

Thanks for the positive feedback.
Much appreciated.
Please buy it
I've run out of gaffer tape making this one so that integration will have to wait for a while.
