salim got a reaction from noone in EOSHD Opinion - The Sony A6400 is an absolute turkey
    Exactly right!
@Andrew Reid assessment is wrong here. He is not looking at this camera in the big picture of Sony's product line and product strategy roadmap.

Sony if offering a great camera, small with amazing AF capabilities (Sony A9 level). APS-C 4k video. It flips for doing selfies (which is I think their biggest market focus and not as much the vloggers market).

It's clear that Sony is going to ratchet up product announcement from least exciting to the most exciting as the year progresses.  They have said the new updated firmware for A7III/A7RIII is coming in April which might indicate the release timing of the A7Siii.  The 6400 is going to be an amazing entry-level camera for any new users that wants to step up from mobile phone or P&S or debating an interchangeable lens camera vs P&S.  Not long ago, a camera with this kind of AF speed and FPS would have cost $4-8K. It's now an entry-level camera. This will make the 6400 the gateway drug into Sony's ecosystem. Both Canon and Nikon are now forced to react and up their games to acquire new users.

So yes, the 6400 is not a "turkey" but a good product-market strategy and Sony has given this a lot more thought than you give them credit. Both Canon's and Nikon's APS-C future mirrorless offering at the sub $1000 market will be compared against the 6400.

The A6400 is a killer camera for the price. The people buying them are not going to be making 3 hour Feature films with them. Just about any new camera now is better than any older camera made 5 years ago. Even old Cine cameras. Great AF, touchscreen, face, eye detection, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS , on and on. Heck you can have a Arri Alexa, doesn't mean you can use it worth a crap. More money has nothing to do with it. You can buy an old BMPCC for 350 bucks that knocks your socks off. People want it because of the flip up touch screen and great AF, and the price.

Would it also limit your ability to control practicals too?  Eg, if you wanted to have a practical be a subtle thing in the background, you would only be able to overpower it to a certain degree.
BUT, if you aren't competing with other lights then it makes sense to me!

I put together a Interview Lighting kit that fits all into a backpack including 3 light stands, batteries, chargers and umbrellas. Got to test it out Saturday night and its perfect for interviews when traveling and I believe everything should be safe to carry on a plane. The new Aputure Amaran AL-F7 on camera LED light' have a very good energy efficiency when set at 55k color temperature and along with the GH5S and A7S Mk ii low light capabilities got me thinking about making a very useful scaled down lighting kit for travel.
I am using 4x Aputure Amaran AL-F7 LEDs with batteries. Each NP970 battery is getting little over 2.5hrs on a full charge. I have 10 in the kit giving me at least 5hrs of battery life plus 2 extra when running all 4 lights at 100%.
In the images below I have some screen grabs from the interview I did last Saturday. I got with my GH5S with the Metabones Speed Booster F2 at ISO 400 with V-Log. The close up shot was with the A7S MK II at ISO 2000 with F2.8 while being 1 stop over exposed for SLog.
I did a lot of looking around and for diffusing the key and fill and the best thing for being fast and compact enough to fit with in the backpack were Westcott Collapsible umbrella.
So even though I own a lot of lighting and grip gear I can find myself using this very often. Air Travel would be a big one. Cramped spaces like offices or small living rooms for interviews. But also when I do documentaries sometimes the subject being interviewed can be intimated by lots of lighting and grip gear. This would give me the freedom to make the subject feel comfortable.
The kit with everything in the list below was $1050.
Let me know what you think, if you have any questions or suggestions for improvements.

salim reacted to DBounce in Nikon Z6 with Edelkrone Motion Kit and HeadPlus
So our Edelkrone Motion kit with the new HeadPlus unit arrived. I figured it would be a great chance to have a quick play with it to see how the Nikon Z6 handles on it. I like this smaller form factor for this setup. It keeps it pretty light. I used the 24-70mm F4 on this shoot. The whole systems was very easy to setup and use. I plan to use this setup regualarly. So I will be in a good position to gauge reliability. Anywhoddles... here is the video. Feel free to comment:

I own the LowPro 450. But only used it on one trip and have not used it again.
    Pros:
    it's well built.
    It has everything you require
I like how you can detach the shoulder harness and make it take smaller footprint for international travel (that's the reason I got it).

    Cons:
It opens from outside not inside.
When you hang it from center column of your tripod (which is what I often do). It's off balance and tills in the angle that makes everything inside of the bag easily fall out.
It's bulky (but for your needs  bulky might be the only option)
It has not internal framing to help support the weight for long treks.
Otherwise it's a great setup and lowepro sticks with their product. One of my lens bags the zipper broke and they just replaced it.

Testing the Alexa Alexa Mini vs Canon C300 Mark II in terms of sharpness via the Odyssey RAW to Pro Res, with desharpen in post as well as in camera codec with noise reduction set to minus 1.  This is a new feature in a firmware update.  You have to go into other settings and turn on and to minus 1 - you can't just leave off.

I've seen many good comments about the LS3000 in the past. With built-in ND, etc.

At $2K it doesn't seem that bad, but in the world of Fuji XT-3 and surely soon XH-2 I wonder if it makes sense anymore.

My experience with my own log profile on the d800 was that you want underexpose /protect highlights and denoise after. The log profile will hold your detail in the shadow and the under exposure will give you nice highlights.
Afterwards, instead of applying a S curve, try to just darken below midtowns. This way everything looks natural/cinematic.
External recording will protect the noise more.

So auto focus test from Max, for me z7 is best in this test. That's so great that Nikon who was dead last is at least for me, the best now. Again for the test, many strange thing, because it is the Sony and Canon who are the greenish skintone, he did use auto white balance this time. Another thing of note is it is the Fuji which looks super soft, much softer than the Canon.

it's a work of passion, just something I wanted to do. but if some one likes the short and they want to invest money to turn the short in to a 90 min project, then I'm fine with that. I just wanted to create something that I had in my mind and turn it to reality and not look back one day and tell myself I wish I had done that. So this is mostly something to do, so I can avoid having regrets in the future.

I got lucky and met a talented actress who brought another actress that they worked together. So the cast is going to be solid. So far, they like the script I wrote. So as long as I don't mess it up, it might be half decent or sow mething that I wont be embarrassed to show to friends.

Of course, I would love to enter a few festivals just to show what I've done and if it goes anywhere form there, the more the better.

BTW, @Andrew Reid - I'm planning to shoot the entire thing with your profile (Sony A7Riii). So if you have any advice for color balancing, etc. would appreciate it outside of your PDF.
