Cool video. Makes me want to take a ride on ny MB as well as find a good deal on a XC10 (I look for one every day).

Ben, I am glad to hear you bought another one, your XC10 videos were amongst my favorite and they truly captured the spirit of this S16 digital camera. I still have the XC10 saved in my eBay search... just waiting for that price I feel comfortable with.
I keep chasing the XC10 form factor as well. I've had two FZ2500s and the RX10ii since I've sold the XC10. Both were cool cameras, but neither  are as unique as the XC10.
The FZ2500 has solid high bitrate, all-i 1080p, shutter angle, decent Touch AF and tracking, multi strength, body selectable NDs, internal zoom, slow/quick at the touch of a button. Even with all its strengths, it just isn't worth $1200 in my opinion.
The RX10ii I really liked as well, solid 4K image, okay 1080p at hfr, good preamps, sLog2 but both feel more like camcorders than S16.
That zoom through wide angle is a cool trick. I had one for my ZR60 back in the day.
I hope Canon continues to update the XC line. As is, it's a blast to shoot with, with a few refinements, it could be epic.

That's pretty much the reason I stopped going to the Sony Center kino - it got too much. Yorck Kinos, while smaller, are so much better.

Saw the film last night and really really enjoyed it. The photography is stunning, continues the really good work Deakins has done with Villeneuve over the past couple of films together. Every shot is beautifully put together and it was so refreshing to watch a Hollywood blockbuster taking its time with pacing and mood setting.

I just came back from the movie and I entrered the cinema with maxotics notion in mind. If this really were Personal passion project there wouldn't be so much mainstream content in the film, and the philosophic aspects would be a few levels above teenager masturbations.
While watching the movie a 70 years old couple answered the phone two times, two  fat people in front of me opened three soda cans and a few gigantic snack bags that made horrible sounds, the projector lens had problems because the keystone correction was at max so the upper part of the screen exibited chromatic aberration, etc...
Anyway, at least it was in my 27.000 people hometown shit hole and I only paid 5€ to see it, can't ask for more.

Having worked in Hollywood I can say categorically that the marketing department (money, budget, etc) is less connected to the filmmakers than the person filling the popcorn at the movie theater.  Also, the money can come from different sources.  Even back in 1985 when I worked in the biz foreign distribution money could give/take-away a green light.  That is, there are many "interests" in the film, from academy nominations to simple worldwide gross.  When I was at Orion they made "Dances with Wolves" only to keep Kevin Costner happy so he would make other films with them--who saw Waterworld coming? ;).  While it was being made, people practically laughed to his face about that movie.   Blade Runner is partly a vanity project for all involved.  I remember when they were making 2010, or whatever that 2001 sequel was and had to build all new sets because Kubrick had purposely destroyed the old ones.  At first I thought he was a jerk.  That changed after watching the sequel.   They must have known it would be no 2001.  They didn't care.   For many reasons, various people wanted to invest in it.  Bottom line, if money was the only reason to make blade runner, I doubt it would have been made.  It's an adult story.  They're not money makers.  All the money makers have children in them as lead characters--well, children to me

I agree with this. The F3 is truly  a beautiful image. The FS700 has excellent features, but from a purely image standpoint, the F3 looks much better. Depends what you're shooting 4K/120p is pretty awesome. If you shoot a lot of interviews, you may regret the FS700.

    Hello!
Here is a short film I shot and directed called "It's My Party" (if you couldn't tell from the big pink letters). I just posted it online Monday and I'm looking for feedback. After my last film which was 20 minutes long and about 10 different locations, I wanted to get back to something more simple that focused on character rather than plot. Anyway, if you have a few minutes check it out and let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy it!

Cameras are disposable assets as the technology is in continual development. Having said that if you can't make a good film with what is now available (and available very cheaply) it's not the fault of the equipment......

I think he is nuts to go handheld for so long that he does (this is his second RED ONE! And we shot an entire film film together for five weeks in Australia, I was doing sound of course with my F4 etc).

He does need to take a few painkillers now and then I think. It is heavy on your back! Especially without any full time 1st AC to help you out.

But I can't be too much of a hypocrite.... my back is still a little bit fvcked up from 5 weeks of shooting with a mixing bag being carried by me every day.

However this 2nd RED ONE is going to mainly live on a tripod, because it only has a CF slot. Thus he'll use the HDD, so it is best it stays on a tripod.

And his 1st RED ONE (which he recently upgrade to a SSD) will be his handheld one.

A forum full of knowledgeable people are trying to help and the op is being stubborn in my opinion. This post is almost troll like. Maybe that is why I am caught up wasting time typing this out? I'm still holding on with an iPhone SE.  Wanted to be excited about this release, but honestly it's not very exciting at all.  The new camera features look okay.  Facial recognition and wireless charging offer marginal functional value at best.  Of the new models I'd probably just opt for the 8/64.

    iOS11 looks pretty nice though.

They have a relentless posting rate now on the front page news feed... 20 articles PER DAY and sometimes more?!
That's crowding out the last few good remaining writers and reviewers there like Richard Butler... crowding them out of their own damn site.
They have hired click-bait writers from FStoppers like DL Cade.
Indeed the In The News column that runs all the way down the right of the site is populated by articles from other sites like FStoppers and Petapixel.
Is there anybody I respect left in the photographic blog community? I don't know!
They have almost all gone down the drain.
    It's so sad.
I want competition, I want to like and respect the work of others.
The internet is going to implode under the weight of it's own shittyness at this rate, with this much quantity of clicks over quality, it isn't sustainable.

It really is not such a big deal to be lacking 444

As to record 444 you need a fairly expensive recorder, which kinda defeats the purpose of buying this amazing camera on the cheap?!

While it can still do great ProRes HQ with a very cheap HD recorder.

webrunner5 reacted to philipd in Panasonic GH5 Review and exclusive first look at Version 2.0 firmware
    Hi
Same here, but there is a problem with maintaining quality with 60P.  All-Intra is essentially compressing each frame as a JPEG.  At 400Mbits/sec and 60 images a second to create Jpegs from, that is 400/60/8 = 830KB approx for each image.  Take any image at 3840x2160 pixels and save it as a Jpeg compressed down to 830KB and quality is going to suffer, and that's ignoring the fact these would be 10bit images, which being squeezed into 830KB just isn't enough space to give a benefit, and would likely look worse than the standard IBP at a lower bit rate.
When looking at 24fps each frame can be around 2MB in size, considerably better.  So the higher the frame-rate, the more quality sees a drop in All-Intra unless the bit rate is raised.  To get the same quality in 60fps All-Intra as seen in 24fps would need a bit rate of around 960Mbits/sec.
60fps compresses quite nicely and efficiently as IBP as it is a higher sample rate than 24fps, and IBP (if the processor can keep up) compresses better the more samples it has per second.  So apart from easier editing, quality is going to better than trying to compress 60fps with only 400Mbits/sec available.
    Regards
    Phil

4K 60fps on a phone proves heat can be managed in such a thin device, and that Canon with their shitty DSLRs have no excuses remaining.

It is just ignorant to pretend that there are only "camera hardware" issues in this world.
This forum is closer to an "eclectic" community than a "mass general discussion's forum", people are free to pass on such a topic though, but in general from time to time it is good to discuss a different subject matter.
It makes this forum's experience more complete in my opinion.
