By the way, one slight drawback here is the price variation in different markets.
Most notably in Sweden where some of the prices I've seen him get gear for means that @Mattias Burling might well end up shooting his $150 entry on an Alexa

At least here in Switzerland, the price is part of the problem. The A7 III is on sale for 1849 CHF while the S1 is 2999. That’s not a good basis in combination with the fact that the Sony eco system is a lot better developed.

Phil A reacted to DBounce in Huawei P30 Pro may be the last, as Google suspends business with Chinese smartphone manufacturer
China was perhaps trusted too much... they are still a hostile power. While I understand that the NSA has backdoors in most smart hardware... including lightbulbs and microwave ovens; the NSA is not considered a hostile power to those living in the western world. It's unlikely that they will steal you credit card information,  or bank account info. China is yet another story. I understand that many here like Huawei phones,  but how many here would like their phone to be used to remotely initiate a cyber attack unbeknownst to them? Such an incident could leave the owner of the device with some difficult explaining to do.
I'll pass, I don't need to expose myself to that kind of liability.
Truly random numbers can be generated on a smartphone by using data from the sensors to seed the PRNG. You can do this in java or kotlin. It's an extra step, which means more time to code. The original issue arose from that fact that the PRNG utilized non-random seed values (serial numbers etc...). If you know the seed value used by the PRNG, and you know the algorithm used to generate the random key, well you can crack the code. It's all in what you are securing and how secure it needs to be.

Well I live partially in Germany and partially in Switzerland and electronics are quite a bit cheaper in the latter (in contrast to literally everything else you could buy). Stores I have personally good experiences with in Germany but which aren’t necessarily the cheapest are the following.
    Camera
    TelTec.de Marcotec-shop.de Foto-Mundus.de Computer
Alternate.de and then there’s of course Amazon for literally anything you could need.

I keep looking for the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera all the time because it's clearly a bit better than the BMPCC for my needs but I have never seen it below 750€ used here in Germany and that's just not what I'm looking to part with.
Also, and this probably sounds dumb, I am not sure I could ever go to a camera without IBIS again after the GH5. The fact that you can handhold static shots so well massively changed how much I actually use a tripod for casual stuff. That's also the single one grain of salt making me hesitant about the BMPCC4k.

I wouldn't buy it at the US$500ish I've been seeing it sell for in 2018, but damn... that is really cheap!

As for myself, I still have my BMPCC, and use it now and then. Sometimes for vlogging with, but I prefer my Panasonic G6 for its flip out screen for selfie filming. Also use my BMPCC a little as B/C Cam when I'm shooting with others.
You like the OG more than the BMPCC4K??

Maybe they've deliberately chosen the 14th to announce it as its Valentines Day and they want to show some love to their customers.
Or is it going to be a case of

Probably an odd question because I‘m coming the other way around than most people:
What are my camera choices for the Voigtländer 35mm f/1.4 or 40mm f/1.4 Nokton? I realize that I can use them natively on a M-mount camera or via adapter on every mirrorless system but I obviously want their intended FoV and characteristic and, as there’s no focal reducer for M-mount, that rules out the Leica M8, Fujifilm X and mFT cameras.
I want a really basic, compact camera just to take portraits and still life pictures. Does someone know how bad these lenses perform on the original A7 or A7r due to the micro lens design? I find the M9 to still be really pricey and I don’t feel rangefinder focusing works well when relying on glasses (I’m short sighted so I can use EVF without glasses).

I like to do lock off shots mostly.  Pans and tilts maybe 10% of the time.  What do pans and tilts really show you that you can't say with a well composed shot and/or edited montage, honestly?  When shooting with a tripod I enjoy framing, hitting the red button, and taking my hands away from the camera.
If anyone else uses this style too, consider Manf. sticks with a "leveling center" included.  From there, you can get whatever head you prefer.  I got cheap 701 HDV's, which are very gnarly for moves, but they're small and work well enough for me.  This sort of set up gives you the option of quick bowl-type-leveling and compact breakdown.  It's a "video" tripod that'll rise to 6' that disassembles and breaks down into enough compactness that I've been able to do carry-on with ALL my gear.
It's not the most smooth video shooting system --which you COULD easily purchase elsewhere, but the functionality and break-down for excursions are more important to me.
I've traveled to over 50 countries with equipment and this is what I ultimately settled on, and was, more or less, content with.  (It doesn't have enough mass for stable long lens shots during windy days)  If you want to avoid sending gear through checked baggage, it's a solution.

Phil A reacted to BTM_Pix in Fujifilm X-T30?
I think they'll keep the X-Pro line as they are pretty much in a field of one with that type of camera and have such an established and enthusiastic user base for it that they can rely on to buy the next one in the cycle.
Even for new users they'll see the X-Pro as a gateway drug to the rangefinder version of the GFX so I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least an X-Pro3.
I think the XT and XH line will definitely have to come together sooner rather than later purely because of the fact that cameras like the Z6 are offering the best of both of them (and more) in full frame.
I don't think they necessarily have to go full frame (Fuji are definitely positioning themselves that medium format is the better step up) but they do need to have the same features at a price that reflects the perception of full frame always being 'better'.
The X-H2 will have to have the video spec of the X-T3 with IBIS for about £1500 to make any sense as a differentiator to the X-T3 (£1300) and as a better value against the Z6 (£2000).
After that, I think they should merge them for the X-T4 and if they want to make something video centric then they should go the whole hog and do it in a cinema camera/camcorder form factor.

No offense but this is very basic Amazon shopping "skill".  Avoid any other vendor other than ships and sold by Amazon.
(Unless it's a company selling it's own goods on Amazon.)

What is the point of this post? You got burned because you bought from a crappy source and now blaming Amazon... Same thing can happen at eBay or Alieexpress or wherever you are deal hunting...

You might want to boycott Amazon for other reasons (warehouse working conditions) but this is just silly.

If you check on the left in your edit timeline, you can set for each track of video / audio if they will automatically move up when you delete something. I always directly deactivate that, I don't understand why it's on per default because I can't even count anymore how often I accidentally deleted video when I just wanted to delete the audio, etc.

Phil A reacted to jeff2626 in Long form, slow paced travel videos
So I'd first like to introduce myself as a 5+ year lurker on this forum who recently created an account.  Hi, my name is Jeff. I feel like there isn't really a "market" for this type of genre. Most travel videos I see are rapid cuts of ground footage, interspersed with drones, and fast paced music. I recently saw on a post (forgot where it was) that someone was actually appreciative of the fact that there wasn't a cut every 0.5 seconds that wasn't cutting to a drone inbetween every shot. I actually love shooting this type of travel content where each shot gives the viewer enough time to actually have a "feel" of the space. I tend to be the type of person who shoots a lot but rarely shares much so I thought after seeing that post it would be a good opportunity to share a video I shot a few months ago on a trip to Iceland. It's definitely long (8+ minutes) but I wanted to shoot it in a way that could actually invite the viewer in and actually help them feel what I felt when I was there.  Also this was one of the weirdest and most surreal places I've ever been to. Let me know your thoughts, on the actual video and as a medium as a whole.
