I can see a digital bolex style body which you slot your phone into. Shame the smartphone lenses are still quite clinical. C-mount mod anyone?

kaylee reacted to ted1000 in Long-term unattended weatherproof time-lapse solutions?
I've been using the Camdo BlinkX with GoPros for a timelapse that has been going on for over a year. They also sell a waterproof enclosure for it. Not a cheap solution but it's been working great.
https://cam-do.com/products/blinkx-time-lapse-camera-controller-for-gopro-hero5-6-7-8-cameras
It's connected to a voltaic battery and solar panel. With a large memory card I only have to check it every other week. It's taking one image every minute, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. You can schedule it to shoot video too.

I think it will find it's way into a lot more applications than just big budget films.
I'd imagine in a decade or so instead of booking a cyc wall studio, you'll be able to book a similar though scaled-down setup like this. You'll be able to select from a couple dozen pre-loaded environments or load your own if you've got the budget to create the virtual set (and eventually there will be a market for the sets). Perhaps not quite self-funded short-film budget level, but much cheaper than flying a crew to 3 different locations for a commercial.

kaylee reacted to Anaconda_ in TV and film production has been reinvented
The Mandalorian has reinvented how we can make films. No need to build physical sets or travel to remote locations. This is like green screen 2.0. Filming in a controlled studio, but the cameras and actors can all interact with the digital environment. Realtime keying without having to use tracking markers or anything. I'd be surprised if every studio in the world isn't already building this. We'll be seeing it in every movie and TV show within the next few years, for sure.

It is very normal on this forum!
Is it normal in "real life"... no.
I dunno man, I feel a cocaine addiction would've been cheaper in the long run.

kaylee reacted to BTM_Pix in Addicted to Gear ....is this normal?
I've recently taken to only watching YouTube on my TV.
Its absolutely transformational just watching the content without it being a small window embedded in all the "CLICK ME, CLICK ME!!" shit.
I very rarely scrub through stuff now and tend to watch the whole thing as I'm far more engaged.
It also completely and utterly removes from view all of the inane and borderline insane trolling comments from dullard wankers.
So I heartily recommend viewing YouTube in a format where if there is a way to turn all that shit back on, I sure as hell can't find it !
A very happy accident.

kaylee reacted to yingxiao in iPad Pro & Apple Pencil/Stylus Discussion ?
I have recently received the iPad Pro and it is also a great tablet for art, but it is very VERY expensive. Also (unfortunately) all the art programs on the iPad Pro require you purchase an additional stylus in order to use pressure sensitivity. I purchased the Apple Pencil ( the highest on recommendations) which also costs a very pretty penny at the price of 95$.
I love my XP-Pen Artist 22E Pro 21.5" IPS display monitor tablet so much. I learned how to operate this at my animation and video editing class! xp-pen produce the good graphics tablets for art in the industry . But please do not forget that this is a PROFESSIONAL TABLET please take that in consideration first before you go out and buy one.
Lets consider what it can do!
1. Its at least 550$.
2. INDOOR USE ONLY .
3. Can be used with any computer.
4. Great for animators and artists .
5. Awesome display .
6. Stylus comes with tablet .
7. Can run Paint Tool Sai, Photoshop, OpenToonz, and much more!
iPad Pro + Apple Pencil
I am really liking it so far (even though I only use one app for drawing.) It has a lot of potential to being a great tablet for the arts, it just needs more apps for...well art. They have lots of sketch apps, but after shooting my pocket and buying an Apple Pencil I can barely afford a peanut. Most of these said apps require you to buy a subscription to even enable pressure sensitivity or layers in the app. Which can kind of get costly when it isn't even the best quality.
It can be for indoor and outdoor use! Battery life kind of runs quick but besides that it's pretty good!
1. At least 600$ The one I have is approximately 800$ .
2. Indoor and outdoor use!
3. Is only compatible with Apple products.
4. Great for artists, not yet for animators.
5. 12.9 Display IS great for artists!
6. Stylus is not included.
7. Can only run apps that are available in the Apple App Store.
So that's all I have to say about these two tablets! Now you decide which is the better of the two!

Pro tip: set camera sharpness to the max in the camera when shooting raw, to be able to focus better.
I use this for raw stills and for shooting raw video, it really helps to see the focus area.

FHD up to.... 24P!!
WHAT.
THE.
FVXK.
Please tell me that is a typo, otherwise what kind of sick joke is this?
Edit:
"Full specs on Canon's site says 24 fps for 4k, and 60 fps for 1080p."
That's somewhat less bonkers.
But still, surely you'd just rather buy a Panasonic G9 instead for roughly the same price?

kaylee reacted to anonim in What Visual Effects Editing Software Do Most Filmmakers Use?
I think that everything starts with inspiration as motivation - so, my suggestion would be to watch tutorials about manipulation and effects in 3D space done with Fusion, Nuke, Flame (how to change background, tracking components, even how to make enough visually suggestive simulated 3D objects from 2D images via projection maps etc). Although great and best for fast 2D effects, AE is not as much suitable for proper 3D, but has tone of ready made templates, great plugins. Also, for everything higher than several layers/intervention, nodal structure or 'tree' becomes more and more suitable.
So Fusion for obvious integration with Resolve, Nuke still a bit more if you really plan to get a job into big industry players, Flame if you like to feel yourself as noble and elite member as it could be. UI logic of Flame is for me pick of the software aesthetic. Of course, there's also powerful Mistika, but it becomes, I'd say, nowadays more exotic than really differentiated.
Besides, I found that nodal thinking in accomplishing 3D tasks is the most interesting encounter of logic and creativity in all software's usage. (If you wish to happily lost your mind in endless possibilities as, say, top chess players - than go into cosmos of Sidefx Houdini.)

there's a LOT of options, if you're a bit familiar with AE, I'd start there...! you can do an incomprehensible amount of stuff in AE, and it's a bit more approachable than Fusion, for example, or some of your other options
what is your intended use? if you need to make full 3D characters that's another story...

IBIS is great for handheld work in my opinion. I don't know why people expect it to replace a gimbal though.
Isn't it great enough to be able to take the jitter and hand shake out of a steady handheld locked-down frame?
I remember the time when a tripod or shoulder mount was necessary for just about anything.
We are getting spoilt!

kaylee got a reaction from Zach Goodwin2 in Making Money on YouTube for Idiots (Me) 2019
Heyy guys!!!
so, I had an epiphany~! (maybe)
it seems to me that if you wanna make money on youtube, you need to, above all else, upload constantly. like, at least weekly, right? some ppl have a new video every frickin day, or more than one~! ive never had the vaguest ambition to do anything like that, im not about filming stuff all the time, u kno? i like to do the opposite, film stuff never ?
anyway, i have a new lil st bernard pup, and people LOVE st bernards~! and on top of that my other dog is a beast of a hybrid st bernard/great dane/mastiff, so...
instead of JUST taking stills of the lil guy as hes growing up, why not shoot some videos? i live in a beautiful forest, i think theyd be great~!
they may be glorified home videos, but who cares~! i mean, I'M on youtube searching for st bernards myself lol. and ill update it all the time with lil fun clips, and weekly weigh ins ?
so, i need youtube tips!!! help me yall!!! i need to make some money for my next film and i suck at illustrating childrens books i hate it smh. how do i get hundreds of thousands or millions of views so i can serve up youtubes precious ads to the masses
addendum: heres a video woth 7.9 million views
but as you can see, that channel only has 14k subscribers... from what ive read you need 10k subscribers just to monetize videos at all, is that correct? ugh that sucks!

kaylee reacted to Andrew Reid in Canon EOS R5 - What Panasonic, Sony and Fuji can do to fight THE 8K BEAST
I wonder what percentage of $3000 these licensing deals actually would cost the Japanese camera makers.
Just pass the cost onto the customer and they will gladly pay. Who would turn down Alexa colour science and ProRes RAW for $300 extra?
We are talking top end cutting edge mirrorless cameras not consumer low-end.
Or do a patent swap.
The main challenge will be getting Arri and Apple to agree, me thinks.

Option A: Canon has a secret sauce and manages to release 8k on FF mirrorless camera. Not only Canon is going to abandon years of crippling policy but they are going make a massive technological come back by beating the competition.
Option B: they gonna fuck it up one way or the other with weird limitations, exorbitant pricing, marketing specs for the stickers on the box but without value for users (8K is actually time-lapse mode or upscaled 4K).
Normally, I would be inclined to pick Option B but since their sub-par product line and pressure from the competition starts having an effect on their sales, we may not completely rule out Option A. Finger crossed.
