austinchimp got a reaction from drm in Z Cam E2 will have ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FPS in 4K??
In my experience (I haven't had much time to really stress test the camera) there are problems with horizontal pattern noise in the shadows, and underexposing is a recipe for trouble. The dynamic range is definitely not as much as the Ursa Mini 4.6k which I used to use. Still a nice image though if you expose it correctly.
The high frame rates above 120fps also suffer from pretty bad aliasing.
However the weird warping and flickering in that video is certainly something done to it in post, or else his camera should be returned as faulty.

Hi, here is a music video that i was DP, shot with GHAlex.
it´s on the band's youtube only, so compression sucks. but i can upload some frames

it looks to me like there is artifacting in there due to time warping. I suggest it was shot at a lower framerate.

Just watched this and I agree I'm seeing lots of weird artefacts. In my view there's something strange going on in the compression somewhere. I own a Z-cam e2 and while the image certainly isn't perfect, I haven't seen anything like this in the footage so far. Maybe he's applied some stabilisation in post? It also looks to me like it's exported at a very low bit rate.

    Cheers for sharing the footage!
Did a quick grade in Resolve (20 min) using @Sage GHa conversion lut. Some adjustments to white balance and luma here and there. Overall very impressed.

austinchimp got a reaction from IronFilm in Is Google drive a good place to store and share videos with clients?
Yes I think so, as long as Google can read the video. It converts it to a playable stream in the same way as Youtube, so when you watch a shared GDrive video in the player, you're watching a compressed stream rather than the original file. You can download the file to watch the original.
One limitation is that videos shared on Google Drive can only play back at 1080P online. If you need to watch a file at 4k for example, the person receiving the file will need to download it to view at full resolution.
Another good point of Google Drive is the control over sharing options. I don't know Dropbox very well so can't compare, but with Google you can decide whether a file link is viewable only in your organisation, or to specific people, or to anyone with the link. Very handy when you're sending out a link to somebody specific but don't want it to get out into the wider world.
If somebody else gets hold of the link and wants to view it, you'll receive a notification asking if you want to grant access.

The camera has one job, process an image. If it needs 3-4 minutes work per image just to make people look normal.. that's not exactly awesome imo.
It's like whith the white balance in Slog2. Defenders always claimed that setting the right WB needed extra time and effort and that is perfectly normal.. yeah no.. in every other camera on earth it's a basic setting that takes two seconds and always has.
    I love Sony cameras.
I've bought many, way more than Canons. And I can get really nice looking images and colors out of them, no problem. But doing it fast, efficient and consistent compared to CaNikon, PanaOly, or even Pentax and Leica.. not so much.

Not too sure about the storage, just wanted to say I’ve been using one of these exclusively lately as a test with a loaner from Apple, and I’m very impressed. Been using it with a black magic egpu unit, and I can’t see any slow down from the upspecced 2013 Mac Pro I was using before. These Mac mini’s are mini beasts with the right spec. I prefer the design to the black trashcan.

All true, but that doesn’t change the fact that the iPad isn’t a straight laptop replacement for most video or photo professionals yet in my opinion. It needs a proper file system first and foremost, and the secondary concerns are proper external monitor support, and better mouse and keyboard input.
once you’ve added a keyboard, mouse, and got all the necessary dongles, cables and drives hanging off it, you really might as well get a laptop!
of course if you’re a casual user who just wants to consume media, or even do some less demanding productivity tasks, then the iPad is beautiful machine.

I know  a lot of people do it, but I would Never depend on ML for anything I can't repeat easily. Ergo, A Wedding, Baptism, Sporting event, on and on. I am a big fan of the 5d mk III but not if I was trying to make a living using ML on it. It is too unpredictable. Sure at low resolutions it works, but why even bother as a Pro doing that.

    It begins.

Evaluating new cameras isn't my favorite thing, so I thought I'd share the pain. I've got a lot of work on ATM, so this will be an ongoing project. I might even end up making a youtube vid ?.
I've been shooting with the 5DMk3 ML raw exclusively for many years, you can check out some of my recent work here:
A few contenders have come along over the years like the A7s and BMMCC, but all have failed to measure up to the 5DMk3 with Magic Lantern raw. These jobs I did recently were particularly gruelling, up to 19 hour days, days on end, uncontrollable lighting, no recce, no crew, constantly on the move, a great stress test for any camera or operator. The weaknesses of the 5D have never been more apparent. With a slight lull in the storm, and some technical hurdles in upcoming work, I took the plunge and bought these two sought after bodies. Not being able to get a Pocket 4K for like 8 months allows a lot of time to pixel peep and contemplate the future. Pixel peeping is one thing, but you really don't know if it's for you until you test it for yourself, or wait for a crash test dummy like me to do the work for you.
Very early impressions: I have to say that of the 2 cameras, I was more excited about the arrival of the Pocket 4K, at least until I remembered the lens adapters I ordered haven't arrived yet. I rummaged through one of my four film detritus drawers and found 5, yes 5 ? Nex adapters (remnants from a brief Sony affair) but not a single M4/3 adapter of course. So I unboxed the P4K, grabbed one of my Canon batteries, and fired up the little beast. The fan: super quiet, probably the quietest fan I've ever heard, a non issue. The firmware: 6.2.1, no CDNG for me. For those who haven't heard: BMD have put a new touchscreen in the latest cameras that only works with 6.2.1 firmware. I'm not really fussed, the Braw stuff I've seen looks really good, and the file sizes are amazing, 4K Braw files are smaller than 5DMk3 raw 1080p files. UHD 12:1 Braw files are roughly the same size as 1080p ProRes HQ files, and 200Mbit/s 1080p X-T3 HEVC files.
I've had the X-T3 for a couple of days and I got an 18-55mm f/2.8-4 OIS lens with it. This lens is fantastic, creamy bokeh, and the OIS is amazing, I can get super steady shots at the long end handheld, I know I'm very late to the party with OIS, but wow. Can't wait to put an Iscorama anamorphic on this puppy, no 58-52mm step down rings in the detritus drawers either ?. Low light on the X-T3 is a mixed bag: up to 8000 ISO the noise is tolerable, film-like chroma grain, no fixed pattern noise, however: the X-T3 image falls apart in the shadows, that's a big minus. The other image related issue that comes to mind is: white balance. I had to go digging into the detritus drawer for a grey card! I mean srsly, what's the world coming to? I haven't used a grey card in years;  I'm so accustomed to shooting raw I just don't even think about white balancing anymore. I haven't drawn any conclusions on custom white balancing yet other than it's absolutely necessary with the X-T3 ?.
Ergonomics: the X-T3 is terrible in big hands, I rarely handhold a camera, rolling shutter micro jitters are a thing, but the OIS lens makes it doable. The Smallrig cage has a handgrip extension, so that may help. The P4K is much better in the hand.
    Stay tuned.

Seems to work pretty well after messing with the WB shift in camera to get rid of the green tint. Im starting to love using the GH5 with this Lut. I'v never had a camera produce such great colours with minimal effort.

The older ones a a lot slower than the new ones. The 10.5" one is down there with a iPhone 7. We have a case for the 11" with a Bluetooth keyboard and it is not too bad. My Apple keyboard went belly up so haven't replaced that yet to try. We haven't spent to much time utilizing the new features. Been busy as of late.
    https://browser.geekbench.com/ios-benchmarks
And as you can see here the new 11" is as good if not better than a 2018 15" MBP. Pretty amazing. And they are half the price of the MBP. And the Type C port on them is the same as Thunderbolt 3.

I agree with that, except that for me and many working professionals a mouse and keyboard is essential to the way we work.
im also aware that this is perhaps old fashioned already, and in 10 year sales time younger editors might be doing their work with swipes and finger gestures because they will have grown up with iPads since birth. I’m excited to see where it goes, as everything changes and no workflow lasts for very long these days.
as someone in my late 30s I’m young enough to move with the changes for now, but I’m also certain that this new technology is going to radically alter video production very soon, probably with the vloggers and youtubers first, with that filtering it’s way up over a short amount of years.

ok so in the spirit of eoshd togetherness I have decided to share this video to see what u guys think. maybe it will inspire zach ☺️
    let me explain:
i made this short at the end of last year, but I never completed the edit/fx/etc 100%. Got busy with other stuff, and I was working up my gumption to come back to it with a fresh eye.
then my iMac broke, and I have a new ‘puter on the way, but I’m anticipating the nightmare of opening resolve and Siri saying ERROR: NO MEDIA FOUND, because my files, ALTHOUGH BACKED UP, are super disorganized, there might be a few things missing, but at the very least it’ll be a big pain in the ass to relink everything to get going on this again
aannnyyyway I always feel bad for posting literally zero videos but numerous dog pics and I was like Screw it, its not perfect, but here ya go.
this is not the best file, its the one I had in icloud, there could be a better render, etc etc, and its getting murdered by youtube compression, but my first reaction watching it after not messing with it for a few months was…. …Hey~! Its not too bad! ☺️ not bad for a first film i made all by myself! imagine if I had a crew, a budget… ?
so, if youd like to see, pls check it out, and if you have any helpful feedback that involves changing/adding things, that’s great, but I do NOT have access to the actors/locations any more and there is almost no chance of me shooting additional footage, so as long as suggestions don’t involve me spending any more money on this project, I’m all in ?
at best, I think this is a cool example of what one person can do with a 5d3 in 2019 with no budget, crew, or resources whatsoever... as indie as it gets lolol

The URSA mini 4.6k G2 is pretty darn good.
Yeah I used a $25 monopod with a 250mm lens, lots of shots at the long end and got great shots. The lens had stabilization though. Still, was great for run and gun at a wedding.

One thing I've discovered - and this might help some people - is that the rendering settings in Premiere can create extreme banding and blotches in your h256 footage once you apply a lut.
I had terrible problems with this on my Mac, before I realised I'd accidentally created a sequence with the Metal hardware acceleration setting selected under Project settings. When I changed it to OpenCL, the banding went away completely.
Might be something worth playing with. I usually find Software rendering to be the most reliable for quality, albeit by far the slowest.
