The one in resolve is  close enough that I'm not going to use ND's for shots on my Z6 anymore.

Also for VFX work results are far better when you pull a key off a high shutter speed and then add the motion blur in post. Makes cleaning up hair work far easier.

That really did not look good to me. Pretty scenery sure, but the image itself didn't blow me away. Overly sharpened with a high shutter speed, surprised he didn't use an ND on it.

Well I saw on L Mount Rumors this morning that the first of the new f1.8's is due in just a couple of days, the 5th November to be precise and some of the specs have been leaked:
Is that Polish, I don't know but weight of 355g is good. Very good.
Filter size of 67mm is also good as it's the same as the 20-60 so crossover.
Is that length of 82mm (without lens hood), because if so, also good!
And if as it seems to be, the 24, 35 and 50 are all identical in size, even further good news because what this camera needs is some fast (enough IMO) compact glass!

At 3k, I think you are going to struggle to get 2 cameras such as an A7iii and a Black Magic and lenses etc, so why not just consider one single hybrid and one decent zoom?
At 3k, my pick right now would be Fuji XT4 with battery grip + 16-55mm f2.8 and you'd have some change left over.
Right there you have got shoot all day capability due to the already good in body battery and with added grip power...which nicely balance out the 16-55mm f2.8...which has a FF focal range of 24-83mm...produces excellent stills and exceedingly high video quality straight out of the box.
I honestly think it is the least compromised hybrid available right now, all factors considered including price.
My other pick would be the Lumix S5 which is what I have chosen as my hybrid, but for me, I'd prefer to shoot this as a pair with some fast primes...which are coming shortly, but a pair of anything (except maybe XT3's) will bust your budget.
My third and final option would be a pair of XT3's, with the 23mm f2, 50mm and 90mm f2 which would just sneak into your budget if you bought nearly new with the only real caveat being no IBIS or OIS with any of that so maybe less useable on the video side without mono or tripod.

We can help you better if you let us know WHAT you want to photograph and what you want to film.
For example, if you will be shooting sports (both photos and video) you will probably want a camera with really good autofocus and a high fps.
If you are shooting travel videos, then a video camera with a really wide dynamic range, good low light and more color depth, yet somewhat portable might be a good idea.
If you are shooting documentaries, maybe a camera that would be a more streamlined "run and gun" camera might be be better.
If you plan to shoot photos and videos of weddings, you might have a different need than other areas.
Also, if you are going to shoot with two (or more) cameras at the same time, it might be best to get two of the same cameras so that it is easier to match the footage (make the colors look the same) from both cameras.
It looks like in the past you MIGHT have owned a GH4 and / or a GX85, right? (I just looked at your content history and it looks like you brought up some topics related to those cameras). If so, do you have a collection of M43 lenses???

External RAW is nice to have if you need it, but having to send your camera in is ridiculous. 10 bit is much more useful for 99% of the work most of us do... Give us that, internally, please. I want Nikon to succeed, it's better for everyone, but c'mon.

No, as with the the electronic lenses on the P4K/6K, everything is done on the AFX itself with the controller.
You tape a focus target on a wall (nothing fancy, anything contrasty will do so you can just put a piece of newspaper up if you want), focus the lens at minimum focus with the controller operating the focus movement, mark the point using the A button on the controller and this stores the focus point with its associated distance.
Move back, re-focus, re-mark etc until you reach infinity and thats it done.
Takes no more than 5-6 minutes per lens and only has to be done once as the calibration is stored on the AFX in its database and re-loaded when you put that lens on.
In the case of the P4K/6K it is done automatically as it can read the lens name but for motor versions you just select it from a list.
If you want to re-calibrate for any reason, you can pick the particular lens from the database in the setup menu, delete it and re-do it.
As above, no app required as everything is mapped to buttons/joystick positions on the controller.
Left Stick - Toggles between AF-S and AF-C
Right Stick - Cycles through focus transition times for QuadLock
    Stick Up/Stick Down - Manual Focus (far/near)
    Top Trigger - Record Start/Stop (P4K/P6K Only)
Bottom Trigger (Short Press) - AF ON/OFF (in AF-S mode re-triggers focus)
Bottom Trigger (Long Press) - Engage/Disengage QuadLock focus target limiter
A (Long Press ) Store current focus position in QuadLock Position A
B (Long Press ) Store current focus position in QuadLock Position B
C (Long Press ) Store current focus position in QuadLock Position C
D (Long Press ) Store current focus position in QuadLock Position D
A (Short Press) Move focus to QuadLock Position A (sets target to A if focus target limiter engaged)
B (Short Press) Move focus to QuadLock Position B (sets target to B if focus target limiter engaged)
C (Short Press) Move focus to QuadLock Position C (sets target to C if focus target limiter engaged)
D (Short Press) Move focus to QuadLock Position D (sets target to A if focus target limiter engaged)
In addition, the operation mode for buttons A,B,C,D can optionally be set to Command mode for P4K/6K where functions such as Aperture/ISO/WB etc can be mapped to them.

My C200 shoots RAW and I've never shot a project that needed it.  As others on this thread have mentioned, personally I think RAW is overrated, the H.264 options are good enough for my clients and everything I do in my workflow is for speed. I use folder organization for speed and storage efficiency, I use metatags for speed and searching efficiency regardless of where the footage is stored, etc.  My camera choice and codec is not dictated by VLC at all, it just so happens that VLC has always been compatible with my camera choices and codec. For example I tested the R6, if it had worked out for me and was perfect for my uses I would have switched to the 5K player and kept the R6....but as it turned out it did not meet my needs in any way.

I'm not shooting the next Hollywood blockbuster, I am shooting for clients that are not paying me 1 penny extra if I take longer to complete their project or if their project size is 500GB vs. 10GB, and those facts are what dictate my camera choices and workflow. I was perfectly happy with 8 bit from the GH5 and the only reason I am shooting 10 bit now is because the S5 can do 10 bit 4K60FPS.  If internal RAW becomes the norm, by the time I start using it (5-10yrs from now) if ever, then there will probably be a way to add support for it in the Windows OS just like they support RAW photos so if I ever do make the jump to RAW my current workflow will probably support it just like it supports 8 bit and 10 bit LongGOP. If you WB properly and get the exposure within the limits of the sensor's dynamic range you can make most H.264 footage look just as good as most RAW footage. I went into more detail with my particular workflow here: https://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/47655-davinci-resolve-lock-adjustment-layer/?tab=comments#comment-381308.
This is just my opinion, but the spreadsheet approach sounds terrible to me, I'd much rather be able to just type into a search field and find every single clip with a waterfall in it across 100TB of storage and 6 different storage locations and hundreds of projects vs. looking at a spreadsheet; and my current workflow lets me do that. It also lets me clean up my storage once a year across all of the projects for the year by deleting every single clip and every single image across all of my storage devices that was not used in the final project.
As far as VLC being quirky, the R6 was only the second time that I had any problems and that was because it shot H.265 which cannot be HW accelerated.  The only other time I had problems with VLC was with the GoPro H.265 footage and for that I also have to use the 5K player.

The 40mm and 28mm along with the 20mm 3.5 and 90mm 3.5 is my favorite set of lenses. Great separation, smooth rendering, and extremely light. Highly recommend them. With low light performance getting better and better I think they will become more and more useful.

IBIS really saved my butt on a corporate shoot today. Really love that I can get away with handholding it.

Here is one with a Voigtlander 21mm f1.4 M-Mount that I'm trying out. Not the biggest fan because it has pretty bad fringing.

Hey Sven, I was lucky and purchased the camera directly from a friend who was not using it. Gave me a great deal on the condition that I not turn around and sell on eBay for a profit because I've been working with him.
Always good to buy used from keh/adorama/b&h. Saw a good deal on a S1R +24-105 on ebay that currently has some low bids, which is supposed to get a 5k update soon, but that is a roll of the dice.

I for one prefer a larger camera because the weight makes hand holding steadier but you want to know what I don't believe in? External recorders. For me it has nothing to do with weight or size, it has to do with one more thing that can go wrong, more wires to carry, more batteries to charge, and external recorders are a single point of failure if their hard drive gets corrupt. I agree with @MrSMW and @Phil A as a hybrid shooter every single extra piece of equipment becomes a PITA when on set as a hybrid solo shooter.

For my use case I am almost always shooting solo, on a single shoot I could be dealing with light stands, studio strobes, remote flash triggers, photo camera body and diffusers; I could also be shooting video clips from a tripod or handheld, monopod, and sometimes gimbal.....mixed into all of that of course are lenses, expo discs, ND filters, and sometimes audio which includes lavs, XLR adapters, and transmitters / receivers or XLR wiring. Lets not forget continuous video lighting, smoke machines etc.. let's not forget the obligatory drone which is needed for a few big picture drone video clips, and if a timelapse is needed that's a 3rd camera body, and lets not forget underwater if its a lifestyle shoot that wants to showcase their pool or a modeling swimwear shoot so that's a 4th camera body....all as a one man shooter.
So you ask what has happened over the last decade? What happened is customers expect more than ever before but at the same time they pay less than ever before.  In my particular area the local market is saturated with photographers and videographers all under cutting each other bidding on the same clients; those same clients that half the time feel like cell phone footage is probably good enough anyway so why bother hiring us to begin with. So yes, I absolutely will gladly use the absolute smallest simplest configuration possible to get the job done.  This is why I got the S5, this is why I have an EF adapter to minimize my lens kit, this is why I don't use anything external if I can help it including recorders or even monitors, and this is also why I don't care as much about RAW as I do about 4K 10 bit internally recorded. Yes BRAW 12:1 would be nice when its time to edit the footage but 10bit 4K recorded internally to dual cards is WAY more important to me as is a single lens mount that will work on everything from my C200 to my 5DIV to my S5.

Specs are great to read about or watch on YouTube. but they are a tiny part of the big picture and the realities you face working in this industry every day. And I'm not talking about the big name commercial production industry, I'm talking about the in between industry where you are a shooter like me shooting weddings, music videos, small business promo videos, corporate events, real estate marketing videos, etc. There is a ton of paying work in this space that simply doesn't pay quite enough to bring in entire teams and assistants.

But not everyone wants to massively increase the footprint and weight of his camera by adding an external recorder. For many people, the whole point of shooting with a hybrid camera is the size. I couldn't care less what's available via HDMI out, it needs to be in-camera or I'm not going to use it. I'm clearly not in the minority with that opinion. For 90%+ of users, the new Nikons will be 8bit cameras.

Its great that another camera manufacturer have embraced BRAW; such a shame its Nikon, who have ham-fisted it with a paid upgrade and limited their internal recordings.  Why not simply include this upgrade with the new release?  I'm sure they delay these things a few months to justify charging extra for it.  The S1 did much the same, though I suspect a  last minute change of heart led Panasonic to instead offer it for free for a limited period.  Maybe Nikon will do the same, but I won't hold my breath.
I have a wish that Panasonic would allow a possible S1H successor to output BRAW.  It would be a great addition and make it worth buying for me, even if the AF is a bit crap.  😄

    Nikon have lost the plot.
Raw options appeal to about 7 people on planet Earth whereas internal 10 bit options to around 7 billion.
Great that they wish to offer these things but they need to be competitive in the wider market to survive.
