'Upgraded my phone' is a pretty 'odd' expression that we all use. I mean absolutely noone has ever said 'I just bought a new phone and my phone calls now are just so much clearer'. The biggest 'delta' in a new phone these days is the camera.
I would guess that Samsung sees itself - not as a company that has 'exited' the camera business - but as the biggest camera manufacturer in the world.
I dont think that 'proper cameras' will become 'more niche' they are already outnumbered by smartphones 100:1. Here in Asia I feel there are more 'proper cameras' being bought now, as people get bitten by the 'photo/video' bug and then look for something better. But I dont really have any hard numbers to justify that.

Based on your interest in full frame Raw, then really it's either the 5d2 or stretch and get the 5d3 if you can find an amazing deal.
Obviously, many of us have different priorities, but if that's what's important to you, then it's basically down to those two and seems to be mainly an economic choice.

Electronic viewfinders and screens are actually easier to focus with, because you can usually do a pixel-to-pixel magnification and/or focus peaking. Optical viewfinders can be more fun to use, but focusing with an evf is easy, too.
Shooting Raw on a Canon camera is not simple. The post workflow isn't bad, though it will take some experimentation. The main problem is that when shooting HD raw, you get like 5 minutes from a 32GB card. Compressed raw and lower bit depths were announced since the last time I used ML, so the situation is a little better now, but it's still very different from shooting all day on a 32GB SD card like you can with H.264. If you go raw for an all-day shoot, you will either need a LOT of cards, or you will need to dump cards to a hard drive as they fill up.
Not to dissuade you. Like I said, the image is worth it. But you will need to budget for cards and hard drives.
I have a set of Nikkor K lenses that I love. Great character (not terribly sharp, lots of distortion and CA, but wonderful vibrant colors), great handling, they can adapt to anything, easy to declick (if you're into that). Would definitely recommend them for the price.

I dont see it myself. The numbers dont really add up. The digital camera market (ILC/compacts) is a US$10bn a year market of which Canon/Nikon/Sony hold 85%. If Samsung re-entered the market and we heroically optimistically assumed they gained a 10% share - it would only amount to US$1bn a year - less than 0.5% of Samsungs US$200bn+ annual sales. Compare that to the US$500bn a year smartphone industry.
However there are, I think, two 'possibilities that could bring Samsung back into the market.
First, Samsung and Nikon are almost a 'perfect' fit. Samsung key competencies are electronics and Nikon's core competency is photography - ideal when cameras are turning into electronic products. Samsung brings image sensors, image processing, lcds etc and Nikon brings lenses, brand, market share and distribution. Furthermore, Nikon is ultimately going to be seriously disadvantaged long term relying on Sony for sensors (Sony being a major and growing competitor in cameras). So a joint venture/strategic partnership between the two makes a lot of sense (assuming that Samsung is interested in the digital camera to showcase its tech.)
Second, and related to this, Samsung could quite easily acquire Nikon. Samsung is a US$300bn market cap company and Nikon is a US$6bn market cap. company. So acquiring Nikon is chicken feed to Samsung. So if Samsung wants to reenter the market, it makes a lot of sense to buy into the market rather than try to recreate their market share from scratch.
But even the Nikon/Samsung tie up in one form or another I see as pretty unlikely because Samsung really hasnt shown a lot of ambition in the image sensor market (despite some press reports to the contrary.) Take the flagship S9/S9+ as an example. It continues to use both Samsung and Sony image sensors (and people dont seem able to tell the difference.)
    https://***URL removed***/news/0634864640/tech-insights-teardown-confirms-galaxy-s9-uses-samsung-and-sony-image-sensors
So if Samsung cant be bothered to showcase their image sensor tech in their flagship smartphones, I dont think they are likely to do it in digital cameras.

I looked at the timeline of the NX platform and it was seriously short lived... 4 years, then they pulled the plug.
This was 2010-2014 and so it was before Sony released the A7R II and more.
Even Canon are now saying the mirrorless market is accelerating and they want in.
    Samsung will be back.

Because his budget isn't realistic for having anything workable? What's the point of a hacked 5d if he won't be able to afford any decent lenses, storage or a monitor to see what he is doing? He would be much better served by something like a g7 with a speedbooster. Nobody was being condescending or rude, there is no problem.

Why have you settled for dslr full frame given that you accept that you might get “better quality” elsewhere?
I’m certainly not trying to persuade you to change your mind - full frame certainly is a valid option - but before you commit I would suggest that you know why you’ve dismissed the BM Pocket 1 (for example - there are plenty of other options. I think older Panasonic’s might work for you too although I have no experience of them). Of course you don’t need to convince me or anyone one else here of your decision but challenge yourself!
Once you’ve considered the alternatives and know why you’ve ruled them out then you’ll have the optimum solution for you.
Enjoy whatever you end up with!

No dslrs have useable video af from that generation.  If you don't need af and raw, Nikon d750 and d5200(apsc) are decent.  Nikon flat profile is nice.  I think those are better options unless you are using magic lantern for raw.  If not it doesn't really give you anything unless you need waveform.

Codecs and low detail really suck now though.

    Good luck!

In a similar if far cheaper vein (£140 shipped) is this.

I got one last week and its basically a poor man's Terradek Vidiu.
Takes HDMI input and sends it out wirelessly (or wired) on its own network or via your existing router and as it just uses standard protocols you can monitor it on whatever device you want be it phone, tablet, laptop or even TV using whatever app you prefer (VLC or whatever).
Its also able to be used as a source for tablet based live video production apps such as Terradek's Live:AIR so you can use a couple of them to create a wireless 2 camera live production setup.
It can also be used to stream your camera out to YouTube and Facebook etc.
They also do a version with a built in 4G cellular modem so you can do that direct if you are away from a wired or wireless internet connection.
I'll do a proper thread about it at some point when I've got a minute.

We do know the price: US$1200, that is significantly cheaper than the MixPre10T.

I feel the current F8 is already a keen competitive alternative to the MixPre10T, so if the F8n gets the existing announced improvements plus a handful more then that is enough to make the choice clear cut for an F8n over a MixPre10T. (only because I already find myself hitting the channel limit of 6 inputs of my F4 on a regular basic, and I reckon a 688 is out of the question for me in the next 12 months)

I regret buying my RodeLink Filmmakers Kit. Wasn't worth the small savings over just getting Sony UWP-D11 from the start.

Have ranted at length before about RodeLinks, and today I'll add another reason:
Reason #98 why I don't like RodeLinks: rf spill from them was so bad it interfered with my Sanken CUB-01! (vs my Sony UWP-D11 transmitters had to be almost touching the CUB before I'd notice anything near similar)
Fair enough, for you it wasn't that significant. And I agree, it could have been bigger! But there was still enough at NAB to make me excited! :-D

This is not a DSLR, but it probably has the most lasting value of any: the Sony FS700R, which came out in 2012 and has been upgraded by firmware updates since then. It has the same sensor as the FS7 and FS5, and now shoots via SDI 4K DCI 12bit RAW, 4K DCI 60P , and 4K DCI 120P in burst mode via the SDI port (exactly the same capability as the FS5). No actual camera has yet best that. It is ugly and ungainly, but its innards are good and its buttons and dials work well.

A "pro" shared by all three (yet is very rare at this price point!): timecode inputs!
It is an unknown however as to which of the three are implementing it best, my money is on perhaps the BMPCC4K

    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1304877-REG/panasonic_dmw_xlr1_xlr_microphone_adapter.html
The Panasonic DMW-XLR1 is a specific pro in favor of just the GH5.

The mini XLR input is a pro just in favor for the BMPCC4K
