Both Undone and Bloom are the best IMO. I always look forward to their reviews. I did learn a few new tidbits from Bloom's review of the A7SIII that are important to my style of work (wildlife):
Animal eye detect autofocus does not work in video (stills only). Philip has started a petition on this, here's the link if you want to sign this. Tracking autofocus does not work while using Clear Image Zoom. Tracking autofocus does not work while using an external monitor. Punch-in does not work (manual focus) while recording. Clear image zoom works to 1.5x. Lot's of positives with the A7SIII but there are negatives too. I wish this camera had Canon's autofocus capabilities. With that stated, I'd much rather deal with these issues than a camera that can't recover from overheating until hours later, has line skipping in 120p 4k and humongous file sizes.

Let's not forget the low-light capabilities of this camera. Northern lights in real-time!

While some of you are underwhelmed, I'm elated as long as 4k 120p works as stated. I've been hoping for a camera that can do that along with excellent autofocus. Great for wildlife filming! Yes, 30 min limitation but I can live with that as long as I don't have to shut the camera off afterwards to let it cool down for 2 hours. I'm being cautiously optimistic.

This was one of the things I WAS most excited about with the R5 and using ef glass and their adapter. Native AF with variable ND for all my lenses.
(edit: don't mean to go off topic)

I used a S1h for a project, the only advantage would be the IBS for me. The 6k image is not as good as the 4k image and the 60fps crop is just annoying as it s force you to change lenses to get coverage.
The S1H is seriously large for an hybrid. In the end I found it make little sense to use it over a BMPCC 6k.

For myself personally shooting wildlife, all I'm looking for is a camera that does 120p 4k reliably with good autofocus and good ergonomics. I've been using a Z Cam E2 and it's been a good fit but it's bulky and no autofocus.  The A7SIII with the Sony 200-600mm lens appears to be an excellent fit for me as long as I can shoot all day with it.
I could have easily gone back to my roots with Canon since I still own the 600mm f/4 lens, but three strikes and you are out:
Unreliable due to overheating in 4k 120p Ridiculously large files/hard to edit Footage reveals it is incredibly soft in 4k 120p Now if Sony can avoid those three, I'll be more than happy with the A7SIII for what I do. It would have been nice to have a 20 MP sensor for stills, but I'll work around that by carrying two bodies with me at all times: A9 and A7SIII.

Presumably Tilta have tested it before mass production. The problems I see with it are many. The layer of poorly conducting material between the CPU and copper heat spreader on the back of the Tilta fan. The power draw. The noise. It is 6200rpm! Obviously the onboard mic will be unusable with it attached even for syncing audio with a dual system mic. The fan spinning on set during recording is not what you want. Even with an external shotgun or boom mic. Then there is the ergonomic side. Those with beards who need to look through the EVF will get their hair caught in the blades. I think it's a publicity stunt to be honest. Even if it works to cool the camera, the noise and ergonomics of it are a joke professionally.

The good news is that we aren't being forced into buying their cameras. We have choices. This is going to backfire on Canon big time.

Taking the overheating aside, (for my needs, shooting 4k 120p) I would probably need to double that investment in order to store and process video from the huge 120p 4k video files. I had one on order but cancelled it once reality set in:
I'd have to fork out at least $1,000 in CF Express chips. I'd probably need to purchase a new computer and/or switch to FCP in order to edit the files: $300 to $3,000 (Davinci Resolve will work sort of, but I would have to optimize each clip in order for them to play properly. (At least on my Mac as it is.)) I'd have to upgrade my hard disk array for more storage to store the massive files from their codecs: $2,000 So now I'm looking at an investment in the neighborhood of $7,000 - $10,000 in order to process and store their 4k 120p files. Beautiful footage but at a price.
Either I'll stick with what I have (Z Cam E2) or switch to the A7SIII once we find out the details on that camera.

right now the camera is useless for most of us, we can not trust to do anything important with it, and price is too high for all its limitations, once the camera is out there, and we get good reviews we could find a way to use it, if we can run all day with an external recorder, well, that's interesting, not ideal, but much better, if we use a small vent in a cage could also work, we really don't know yet, with the current information it is clearly a NO NO, but real world test and DIY solutions could change our initial decision.

The most important thing is that apparently, it does not overheat and there is no need to wait for it to cool down, to continue using it.

ajay got a reaction from berkenboom in A closer look at the Canon EOS R5 lower quality 4K mode to avoid thermal cut-off
I think what you wrote is very well put. I think that its imperative that any and all issues with these new cameras be it Canon, Sony or pick your camera should be brought to the table and discussed and verified. Because of your posts, you've brought it to the attention of a lot of potential users and reviewers. When the production cameras hit the market, you can damn well bet they will be testing overheating issues.
People can piss and moan all they want that you are being unfair but you are not. I certainly would like to know before I plunk down a lot of money if the camera I am investing in is capable of working in all stated modes without compromise. If there are compromises, I can make an informed decision myself based on my personal needs. All I want is an unfettered review without bias.
Thanks for bringing this issue to the forefront.

I agree and don't get me wrong, I am very happy the R5 has been released.  The camera industry is richer because of it.  Anyone who can think outside the box and release a camera that tries to push what is possible is a good thing.  Take the Pocket 4K, first to bring 4K RAW to the masses.  Okay, no flip screen, poor battery life, no IBIS or AF, no weather sealant, but it still did it.  And many like me struggle through the issues to make it work for us.
The fact the R5 isn't for me, is neither here nor there.  I'm not freaked out about the limitations, but am happy to discuss and ponder on them.  It shows where technology currently sits.  Forums tend to exaggerate feelings.  If we were chatting face to face, you'd get a better reflection as to where I feel on this matter.
My only concern is hiring 2nd shooters who buy the hype and get the camera and think innovation will see them through a 90 minute Ceremony.  I've had one guy I hired go wrong thanks to using a Sony camera.  One long 25 minute clip, followed by dozens of 20 seconds to 1 minute clips that I had to work with to form the end of the Ceremony.
Not good, and down to overheating.  I'm afraid for my work, it's not a small issue.  Its not like bad AF.  This is consistent and you know where you stand with it.  Problem with over heating is that you don't know.  It could run before shutdown for an hour or just 15 mins.  For my work, that uncertainty would cripple me.

I think you'll find others here shoot as a fulltime job too.  😉
Canon hasn't given people want they want.  I don't recall people asking for 8K RAW.  In fact, 4K RAW is arguably needed far more than 8K RAW.  I don't recall peole asking for clip limits, overheating issues.  In fact, Canon users have always spoken against Sony cameras for overheating, praising Canon for not chasing gimmicks whilst taking their time and releasing a reliable camera to use.  Very few asked to lose that for the sake of 8K.
I'm not denying this is an innovative camera that is pushing what technology can do.  I've no doubt it will be a great tool for photographers who are also shooting the odd video and videographers who are primarily shooting short clips.  Most cameras has issues of some sort or another.  I use the Pocket 4K a lot.  No flip screen,  no IBIS, no AF to speak of and no weather sealant.  Its not a perfect camera.  Neither is the R5.

For what it's worth, one early-on reviewer of the R5 responded to my question about the camera overheating and stated that during the time they were able to test the camera they had no heating issues. No warnings. No problems. The reviewer also stated that they will be testing this issue with a production camera as soon as they can get one and will do a complete and honest review once in-hand.
Could it be an issue with preproduction cameras only?
Could it be that it's only an issue in extreme heat?
Hard to know for sure but I think we do owe it to Canon to not prejudge the camera beforehand. Seems like a reasonable approach to this issue.
