In defense of the C200, it also introduced 4K60p, internal RAW recording, and Touch DPAF... amongst a host of other features, IO, media and ergonomic enhancements .
It was a lot more than just a C100 with 4K. Aside from 10-bit codec, it actually did more than the at the time flagship C300 mk2!
And that’s the funny thing with Canon. Lower end models often have better features than flagship models but always have the infamous cripple hammer on some crucial aspect..

I bet the C70 is going to be Canon's best selling C Series camera since the C100 itself!

(unless the C50 blows us away at an even lower price point, and proves my prediction wrong)
Bingo, for many the P4K is a perfect A Cam for the hobbyist, indie filmmaker, or part time pro.  Or as a B / C Cam for folks who are the next level up.

C200 found its niche for the C100 owners who were happy with everything *except* they wanted "4K". As the C200 was for some kinda a "C100 + 4K 8bit", for many that's all they needed. Plus the C200 had an additional niche for shooters who did everything in house and didn't mind a bit of extra overhead, then the C200 might make sense.
I suspect the FX6 will have a major compromise vs the FX9. What would it be?
    Ideas:
    1) no TC, maybe even no SDI??
    2) old sensor? (please don't reuse the FS5 sensor!)
    3) not FF? (doubt it)
    4) no 4K 60fps 10bit? (or perhaps FF is only 4K 8bits, and the 4K 60fps 10bit is reserved to only the S35 mode)

I really only have one question and that is why did they name it after a Volvo?
A used Volvo C70 is also cheaper and less good at video, but the Canon C70 is easier to park.

Got the A7SIII as wanted a small body that could do 4k120 10bit with high calibre AF tracking for gimbal work, and more.
Coming from the EVA1 and GH5.
No footage yet to show. Haven’t used it on a job yet but I’ve took it for a casual spin in the park.
Is the hype real? Not sure yet. Need more time.
    Some observations:
    1. The body is very very light. The buttons are nice to press. The screen is a little thin. The menu button is in the wrong place. The grip is far better than before. It’s much bigger.
    2. The EVF is insane. Never seen an EVF that clear and sharp, ever.
    3. Menu’s make sense, finally. Woo woo.
    4. AF tracking is great. Feels like cheating. I’m not sure how I feel about it as part of the craft though. Feels less rewarding, if that makes sense? Lovely on a gimbal though.
    5. Working on a screen this small makes me feel disjointed from the scene. Much less clarity than the EVF. Good I’ve got the Ninja V to test then!
    6. Dynamic range is impressive. Very nice roll off.
    7. There’s a “Shockless” WB. When you change it, it transitions smoothly while recording. Same with ISO and shutter speed. Nice!
    8. How am I using ISO 100 in Slog3? Thought this was BANNED.
    8. Rolling shutter looks gone. Ran off. Away.  Thank the Lord.
    9. Battery life - hmmm. Not Panasonic standards.
    10. Tamron 70-180 seemed a bit drunk with close distance AF.
    11. Image looks quite clinical. Used ProMist 1/4 - not judged it yet. Seems better. Will decide later.
    12. Why is the skin tone in FCPX yellow looking when the skin is on the line in the vector scope? Not that the skin tones are bad (they are good off the line),  just doesn’t make sense. Maybe I’m blind.
    13. Colour is better. I’m not sure how much better yet. Definitely an improvement.

I need to get this thing on a proper shoot. Got a triple music video shoot in Turkey coming up so I’m going to throw it in the deep end on that one.
Overall, I’m impressed so far but I can’t help feel a slight bit of disappointment when Canon announced the C70, which is the camera I described some years back as the one I would love to have. Now it exists. Funny world.

Wait for the Sony FX6 as well.
    Exactly!
Heck, even the internal 10bit for some cameras is better than the same camera's raw output. (am looking at you Sony FS7!)
The Canon C70 as an A Cam is aimed at low (perhaps mid) budget professional work (ultra low budget work uses mirrorless/DSLRs for their A Cam). They don't need or want raw in 95% of the shoots.
Doesn't matter when Anamorphic AF lenses don't exist!
They differentiate by being the best (or at least, thought of as that) when it comes to image quality.

And by being incredibly good when it comes to overall workflow/ecosystem for the productions they're aimed at.

It is strange, until I remember a key lesson from economics:
    "People have unlimited wants".
And that people will blur the line between "wants" and "needs".
(this is one of the key reasons why socialism will always fail. Because even if you can give everything that people want/need right now, that won't be enough! As people will have expectations inflation, and will have a new higher level of demands. Thus you always need a way to allocate scarce resource efficiently, which is exactly what price signals to. You abolish price signals, and you abolish the ability to effectively allocate resources to get the most out of them)

Good point. Panasonic aways chose to add a special feature or two, to chase market share and they have provided supreme value for money over the years. Where is the 10bit full frame camera from the other manufacturers at the same price as the S1 for instance? Or anamorphic cameras for under $2K. But people see a Canon badge and go mental. Another crippled very high margin product. The same people who would deride the lack of IBIS or EVF on a cheap mirrorless camera under $1000 seem to give Canon a pass when these are missing at $5500. I do get that it's a cinema camera and image is a big step up from C100. It is by no means a poor camera. I just personally would have found an EVF very useful. I'd also have preferred a full frame sensor. IBIS is another big one.
But yes if you are into crop sensor look with good dynamic range, I am sure the C70 ticks a lot of boxes.

maxmizer reacted to Video Hummus in Olympus announces new firmware development to allow RAW video on the E-M1X and E-M1III
Not to mention Leica has said they “don’t have PDAF available to them” which makes me believe Sony has tight restrictions on PDAF patents. And the fact that other, old school camera companies such as Nikon, Fuji, Olympus have it has more to do with weird patent and technology agreements among those companies and perhaps Minolta in the past (or whoever acquired the original patent portfolio for it). Panasonic is a new comer in the camera industry, by a long shot, compared to those companies. And leica is a Germany camera competitor and we all know the Japanese vs German imaging battle that went on for years. Japan won the majority of the market.
So I’m more included to believe that Panasonic is in the same boat as Leica and that they “don’t have PDAF available to them” so they built upon contrast based system. I’m not sure there are other ways to do focus except with lasers, or IR, or ultrasonic projection and apparently Panasonic doesn’t like those methods.
It’s a mystery and would make a great “industry investigative story” documentary.

I feel like you are kind of moving the goalposts. This guy has a use case where he has shot hundreds of shots on cameras with all kinds of film backs (for camera comparisons), and somehow this does not count because his lenses are too wide? This is based on real-world experience with everything from an IMAX down to a super 35 camera. He even admits in the article that his matching is not perfect due to practical limitations (t-stops and f-stops not aligning, lenses not matching exactly to their equivalent counterparts, etc.), but his argument is that the likeness between shots is so convincing and consistent that the sensor size obviously does not play a role in the actual image, and that any perceived difference is due to bias or particular (non image circle-related) lens characteristics, not due to the size of the film back. In fact, where you have been previously arguing about recognizing a larger format due to increased lens blur (in your examples where you are circling a number of shots), the Alexa 65 actually seems to have slightly LESS lens blur in the examples provided by Steve Yedlin, likely due to my aforementioned reasons. This, again, seems to provide an argument that any perceived differences are more likely to be due to individual lens characteristiscs or other uncontrolled variables which are not related to the film back size.

EDIT: I hope this does not come off as argumentative, as I do appreciate -and enjoy- the discussion!

Thats odd as S35 cinema cameras cost a lot more than many fullframe hybrids..   and I'd rather have the money to buy a C300, a Red Komodo or an URSA 12k over a fullframe A7C,  or any other fullframe hybrids for that matter... 😆😆

I think the biggest drawback for larger sensors is they have always been a few years behind the smaller sensors in performance, at least in mirrorless hybrids.
My most important spec is 4k60p. Fuji had it in 10 bit HEVC two years ago.  The FF Sony & Canon 10bit took two years to catch up & match it. And they are still nowhere near the $1500 the X-T3 was. Panasonic's GH5 4K60p also looks great from two years ago, I still have MP4 samples I downloaded late 2018 that look indistinguishable from FF 4k60p.
It used to be in the old film days that a doubled increase in format size gave a doubled increase in resolution. So when I first heard DSLRs were about to go full frame I thought, Great!  But, in digital it's not that simple. Video UHD is still 3840 x 2160 no matter the sensor size.
The other major drawback is price - this from Wikipedia...
"Production costs for a full-frame sensor can exceed twenty times the costs for an APS-C sensor. Only 20 full-frame sensors will fit on an 8-inch (200 mm) silicon wafer, and yield is comparatively low because the sensor's large area makes it very vulnerable to contaminants—20 evenly distributed defects could theoretically ruin an entire wafer."

maxmizer reacted to etudiant in Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating timers, workarounds, and Magic Lantern
Iirc, various computer graphics cards operate at well over 65 degrees C, with peak temperatures over 80 degrees C not unheard of.
So Canon is at least being very conservative in their 'safeguards'. as well as really sloppy in their management of the recovery times, because those seem entirely disconnected from the actual temperatures.
Imho, this festering uncertainly does maximal harm to Canon.
They would have been better off to say up front that the R5 was not a tool for professionals, people who should be using a C300, but just a stopgap for use in a pinch. Now there is the impression that the entire product line is an elaborate scam, with features blocked or included because of marketing dictates, rather than engineering and economics. As Intel has discovered, that approach works until it does not, but then it is a long way back...

I do not think that is the case.
While Sony is the owner, the semi- conductor business is run apart from the camera business and Sony semiconductor will sell sensors to ANYONE.     Sony USED to be the major shareholder in Olympus but sold out not so long ago (they must have seen the writing on the wall).
Sony still owns about ten percent of Tamron.
