    I got the G9 (stills are more important for me) and it's like Christmas has come early! Really really like the G9, it's a fantastic camera and is such a joy to use.

    It's truly a great time for camera tech. Every month we get something new and awesome!
    The RAW footage from a given camera will almost certainly be better for keying, compared to 8 bit 420 from the same camera.

    Man I am impressed. Sony really stepped the game here. They must do that knowing that canikon monsters will release their version this year so they wanted to be sure to have the best specs for the price. 

    Seriously, if one does not need 42mpx, this is better than the A7RIII especially when considering price. 

    Very, very impress. Can't wait to be blown away at NAB by A7SIII. Now counting on 4K60p and 10 bit easily.

    In fact it is even better than A9. It gets a BSI sensor, they claim 15 stops of DR. DR of A9 was pretty bad so we should see a better still image quality here.

    I currently own a Canon 24-70mm 2.8 mark i and the Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS.  I have decided to get the GH5, but before I make the order, I have several questions I would like to ask for advice.
    1. Should I keep my current lenses and buy the Speed booster? XL or Ultra? I inherited these lenses so not sure how good they are.
    2. How well does Stabilization and Auto Focus work with the Speed Booster and Canon lenses on GH5 compared to native lenses or other lenses?
    3. Would it be better to sell my lenses and get a different setup?  if so, which would you recommend?   Get native lenses or other lenses with Speed booster?
    If I keep my Canons, my budget will be just for the Speed Booster.  But if I sell them, I'll have around an extra $2,000 dollars for lenses.
    I will be mostly shooting for music videos.

    XL with full frame lenses.
    Ultra with APS-C, otherwise on the XL + APS-C lenses you will get vignetting, regardless of IBIS.

    XL was designed for GH4. Many users already had the XL and they bought the GH5, so you see the XL used more often. While XL accomplished its original mission and still did great with full frame lenses, GH5 had bigger coverage to begin with, having no 4k crop at all, and on top of that you need to give a little headroom for the IBIS to operate. You don't want an entire stripe of black to come up every now and then when you handhold (with XL and APS-C lens). If you don't want IBIS why didn't we stick with GH4? Everyone seems to be using the Sigma 18-35/1.8 and on GH5 an ULTRA is required. Of course XL if you use only full frame lenses.

    I enjoyed 13 reasons why, watched on not an expensive TV set, really excited about the Varicam look.
    Until the 2 cameras are out, and final specs and prices are set, Canon still can be an option, this Panasonic isn't a C200 killer -if the rumored 8000$ stays.
    The ND in Canon is 10 vs 6 here, it seems like Sony will be ahead of those for the next 3-5 years with their e-ND.
    Internal Canon raw, even for 15minutes per 128GB is a thing, can't complain about it, better to have (ain't this right @mercer ). The Panasonic raw is rumored to be a paid upgrade in the feature (we certainly do not know, it seems possible for a company that sells log for 100$!), still I do not blame them, if it save the camera a 500$, but still..
    Canon C cameras are no slouch in high ISO, maybe not native 5000, but certainly no problem to work with a similar number. We don't even know the base ISOs of this camera, it can be 800/3200, and 3200 is perfectly fine for C cameras.
    The camera is still in development while people will have C200s in August or early September (and still in development, 5 months before its estimated release, is a bit worrying, it is not good to rush things).
    Dual Pixel AF is something I want in my next camera. I have enjoyed using it occasionally with the Canon C100mkII, and I am hearing great things from C300mkII users. AF it is not a gimmick, and having a touch screen to choose AF on a less than 9999$ camera, it can be exactly what will make it more mainstream in video professionals.
    I have used 120(100)frames on my NX1 twice in the 2 years I own the camera, and a couple of times we have rented a FS700 for slow mo purposes in the last 3 years maybe. 60(50) frames is mandatory to have, 120(100) is perfect for most uses. I won't deny the Panasonic advantage, even for small bursts is a great feature, but I won't base my decision in this (while internal raw and Dual Pixel are huge - for me!). That dramatic slow motion effect is over rated in my opinion and this is coming from someone that used to be a high speed camera operator for some time!
    The price difference (8-7500$) is not that huge from the C200, while a JVC LS300 (that keeps mentioning here and for good reasons) is 2650$ (that is a competitive price! not even close in specs, but hold some aces into its sleeve as well, and for the price..). Panasonic should be closer to 5500$ to be competitive to Canon/Sony, not 7500$, and that shows something about how much a really competitive S35 professional video camera can cost. If Panasonic can't make it cheap (while selling a camcorder with a fixed lens at 4500$), and BlackMagic can't make it cheaper, then maybe it ain't possible.
    Of course we have to address the elephant in the room, C200 has no middle codec. This Panasonic announcement will probably push Canon to announce in winter time a middling 10 bit codec I guess. While they still can sell cameras (Panasonic has no definite delivery time, while Canon has) and keep the C300mkII people silent for a few more months, but C200 (as the name indicates!) is the perfect "middling" tier camera, only that it isn't!

    I just had a 3 cam documentary shoot yesterday, here are some frame grabs from the 1080p sequence.
    Shot in 4K, 8-bit, Standard picture profile, WB 6000K
    Lens Turbo, Pentax 50mm f1.7, set to f3.5
    Lens Turbo, Sigma 18-35mm, set to f2.8
    You can see that there is a quality difference between the two lenses. Anyway I am satisfied with the results, no crop in 4K is a lifesaver. And here's the shooting setup:

    2 spot lights on the back, 2 led panels on the front. 1 wide shot, 1 closeup + the main from the GH5.

    Frame rate has no relation to exposure or light. Frame rate is how many individual pictures are being exposed/projected per second. Shutter speed is how long the shutter stays open, in seconds. The only thing you need to know about shutter angle is that it effects motion blur between frames.

    B: The light 'trio' of aperture, shutter speed and ISO is really for digital stills. For video, only consider ISO and aperture for controlling your exposure. Since DSLR's don't have a global shutter and you can't control the shutter angle, the only way you can control that is by your shutter speed (hence the 'inverse of twice the frame rate'). White balance really doesn't have anything to do with exposure. To a degree it does, but it is the temperature of the color white. Higher numbers give you a warmer (yellow/orange) white, lower numbers cooler (blue) white.
    2. It depends on the situation, but I usually set the aperture first then use the lowest ISO I can and still retain proper exposure. I shoot at 1/40 shutter speed, you get a little bit more motion blur, but it's barely noticeable compared to 1/50 (for 24fps. I shoot 1/125 for 60fps). Don't even think of shutter speed in terms of a way to adjust your exposure. Leave it at whatever it is for the given frame rate (1/40 or 1/50 for 24/25fps or 1/100 or 1/125 for 50/60fps) and don't change it; unless you intentionally want to manipulate the motion blur. See below.
    3. If you make your shutter speed faster, you'll lose more motion blur between frames, and motion starts to look artificial/strange. But if that's what you're going for, do it. If you slow it down (the GH2 can only go down to 1/30, I think, in 24fps) then you'll have the opposite. You can get down to 1/2 second shutter speed in Manual Movie Mode with the GH2, but IMO, it's only good for time lapse stuff.
    So really, there is no rule of thumb, aside from the 180 degree shutter concept for 'natural' motion blur. The challenge of shooting 1/40 or 1/50 shutter speed is that it is a rather slow shutter speed. In bright, outdoor situations, to retain shallow depth of field, you'll need to use an ND filter. You can get sets or a variable one.

    I just got the DR-60D this past Friday.  I have the Zoom H4n too, so I did a small test yesterday using both.  These are my observations:
    DR-60D has more headroom on the highs.  The H4n can suffer some, especially when almost at 0db.  However, the H4n has a deeper low end, more fuller sound.  Not necessarily deeper bass, but it just sounds more robust.
    For live sound, there is the dual recording feature which makes two copies of the recording, one at normal and another at up to -12db lower. This really helps when there's a sudden burst of sound during interviews.  This only works with two channels (one set) not all four channels.  I did use this and it worked very well.
    Form factor is very different.  At least I have no fear of dropping the DR-60D.  I dropped my first H4n and it landed on the mics, crushing it.  So there is that fear.  The DR-60D has no internal mics, but it's easy to connect a small shotgun or other mic into the miniplug socket.  4 channel recording works well, and it's great to mix sound board with live ambient sound.
    Overall I think my friend said it best:  DR-60D has very clean sound but it's more suited for studio-like sound.  H4n is more akin to live direct recording, with more ambient fuller sound.  Of course this is just straight to the recorder.  The sound can still be worked on a computer.
    I'll keep both for now since I still need something for live concert recordings.  But for interviews, the DR-60D is just awesome.  I also have the 6AA battery pack, and it really does extend the life of the unit, especially when using phantom power for shotgun mics.  I think I got over 6 hours.  Way better than maybe an hour using phantom power on the H4n.

    Well the Pocket will be slightly larger than S16, so you should consider x3 for this little thing.
    The problem will be how wide you can actually go - so until John Brawley posts some footage & tells us, we'll just have to wait.
    Just really hoping the Speed Booster comes out at the same time - it'll be a life & cash saver!
    Especially considering the amount of lenses that will be bought up & the over inflated prices that will ensue!
