Thanks guy. I'll probably stay in M-mode to at least lock aperture and shutter without pressing anything.
    UGHH
We are sorry to learn that you are unable to find a certain focus mode to suit video shooting.
With reference to your enquiry regarding the various focus modes, we would like to clarify that if you shoot movies when Focus Mode is set to Single-shot AF or DMF, the Focus Mode will automatically change to (Continuous AF) and then continue to focus.

So I went to check out the S9 expecting it to be the boring reheat of the S8 that it seems like on paper.
Maybe I have been a bit harsh on them!
There are considerable evolutions across the board. Video is 4K 60P and much nicer than the S8. MUCH.
I've compared the headphone jack to my Burr Brown stuff and tube amps - it stands up. What's more, Adapt Sound now allows you to save profiles for individual headphones, which it tunes to your ears. Hifiman HE100 sound wonderful on the smartphone, as good as a high-end portable DAC like the Chord Mojo (which I also benchmarked it against in an A/B).
They have solved the slow loading of RAW DNG files in the gallery. It's slick. These can be edited within 2 seconds of a press on Advanced Edit. It used to take over 10 seconds to load a single raw photo in Polarr, my main mobile editing app. The raw files allow you to turn off the typical smartphone over processing and get fine grain, better grading.
The camera app now defaults to Pro mode if you left off in that mode the first time, it no longer defaults back to auto, which doesn't save JPG+RAW. This makes a big difference to usability.
I am comparing it in this instance to the P20 Pro, with it's ridiculously nice 40MP raw.... Will do a review.
Performance seems snappier and slicker than S8 with less background apps and bloatware, plus new CPU makes a difference.
The speakers are hands-down the most full-bodied I have ever heard from a smartphone, with twice the dynamic range of what I've previously experienced from iPhone X and P20 Pro. YouTube Premium plays music clips in the background on the phone, with it's latest Android OS... That's a nice touch. You can use it like Spotify. Tidal works well on the phone in MQA mode, to get the most out of that new DAC and headphone socket.
So it's not a case of iPhone 6S vs 7... There is actually a bigger difference under the surface than expected.

Just set up your buttons to be able to switch to af. So one button to choose Af point and then when focussed switch to MF.

Well the trouble is a Husband and a Wife don't really understand each other either with Politics. I had 3 pretty big time businesses. I voted Republican, if memory serves me right, all the time I had them. But I am sure my wife with the kids in mind probably voted Democrat in the same time frame. We never asked each other how we voted. That Is a private thing.
So even within close families there is division, and arguing best be left out of that if you want to stay married LoL. There is unfortunately no real winner either way in elections for all, not with this bickering Congress we have today in this country. It wasn't nearly as bad years ago. They Used to go drinking and play cards together, now Good Luck with that happening! Now I know they are not all bad, but the leaders on Both sides seem to be brain dead. They are out for their own good not the peoples good.

I don't read or post in the political threads, mostly because things just make me unhappy.
I think that politics is one of those things that can make you go from liking someone to not liking them if you discover they have different priorities to you, so I don't think it really adds to the overall sense of community.

It's got nothing to do with actual doing "film" making so I voted away with it. I agree that there are pressures topics regarding freedom of speech in the realm of artistic expression etc... but for me discussing them here does not advance my knowledge of constructing arguments in a visual way.
Maybe a sub forum can bundle the message, media and artist, rights discourse better.

You're making a moral judgement concerning the situation without stating and interacting with his many comments, the video he posted, or his correspondence with a convicted pedophile. What this whole conversation should be doing is helping us realise that there seem to be significant problems deeply rooted in Hollywood that need addressing. It's not normal behaviour for a 44 year old, it is broken. The politics is real though, a single tweet from a conservative, or a single recorded bad word, and the media goes into meltdown and decides they should be destroyed and the American people insulted. Incidentally, you say "wreaker Trump" (sic) but I think you'll find the economic and employment stats are doing pretty well.

Go for it! The stability is greatly improved and you can use it for much longer periods. Only downside is that there are no buttons.

I also gave my vote to Tiffen, of course fixed ND is always going to be better, but for run and gun and docs a VARI ND is a life saver, there are tones of youtube videos about ND filters, comparisons, recommendations, etc, for price and quality, Tiffen is the way to go...
Below is a good comparison video that can help you to decide..

I'd second the Tiffen recommendation. Got it again after breaking one a year ago (and it took a lot of force to break!)
For docu work I can't imagine not having one. If there's color shift, I reckon it's the good kind - I like the skin tones with it.

I have the Tiffen Variable ND Filter - after looking at lots of comparisons it's pretty sharp (important!) and the color tint isn't too bad (AWB takes care of it).  I do recommend it, although you missed the rebate on it where it was like $60 USD a month or two back.
I also have the Breakthrough 82mm filters in 10, 6 and 3 stop.
FWIW, I'm still mainly using the Tiffen filters because it's much more convenient when running around, I hate changing filters.  The Xume thing is a good idea but I'm not convinced the IQ is worth the extra hundreds for the Xume stuff (I haven't done any indepth comparisons but haven't really noticed anything different when using the Tiffen vs the breakthroughs - I know the breakthrough is "better" but for an interview it's practically unnoticeable).  Plus I don't really like what it does to the WB, but maybe I'm just not used to it.  The varibales are just so much more convenient, and it's really not that expensive for the Tiffen.

The Leica 42.5 Nocticron f1.2... This lens has something that mere spec sheet numbers cannot speak to. This lens has magic. It is one of those few "special" lenses. It's built to true Leica standards. As well made as any of my other Leica lenses. And at a price that is a bargain. It is designed for the Panasonic GH cameras, so performance will be exactly as expected. I consider this lens to be one of my best (regardless of system), and on a short list of the finest M43 lenses available.

I’d rather have the 180, personally. But I’ve only used Shutter Priority once or twice outdoors with a variable ND, so I was able to trick the camera into opening up the aperture. It worked well on both the RX10ii and the FZ2500. But Auto ISO range in manual mode would be my choice, in most instances, if I needed a semi-auto mode.

Manual mode and you can set auto iso range, that's probably the best. I wouldn't use S for video as diffraction can wreck a shot while non-180 degrees are ok.

    Not this stupid binary argument.
ZERO... Only content matters, lighting and talent
ONE... I must shoot 4K, RAW, RED, 240fps.
The guys in the ZERO camp would be fucked if the script called for slow-mo.
The guys in the ONE camp do need to use more talent sometimes.
And the ZERO camp needs to realise that anamorphic lenses sometimes do their oh-so-wonderful scripts and lighting much more justice than spherical.
Always, you need both the talent and the specs, one bit without the other is pointless.
