I have neither and should get both. I originally planned to start a production company, now I want to look for work (full time, ideally) in post at ad agencies. The freelance grind has worn me down.
I'm cutting a reel now, or at least culling material but I have a good idea of what I'm doing with the reel and someone more accomplished has generously offered to give me advice on what my level of client wants to see. I want to keep everything else minimal.
Home page is reel and contact info. Only three pages. "CV" "Blog" and then just a promotional blog with news and stuff and ideas, stuff clients might want to see that's more specific than the reel and old reels, but also fluff pieces and essays.
I want this website to look SIMPLE. Gray on gray. Or blue on gray or something.
I am a tech idiot and don't know how to write HTML since I was in middle school. I hear Wordpress is good? How does this work? I just want the simplest theme but I want it to feel customized.
For business cards, I've never had them (except at summer job once). I don't use Linked In or FaceBook for work, or have much presence online. Should I get business cards or focus on online?
    Thanks.

If you don't know HTML, you won't know how to handle wordpress. WIX is okay if you're not into coding, otherwise, get a 15USD html template from themeforest.net, you only have to replace the (placeholder) texts.

Afaik the performance of the IBIS doesnt really change on the GX80 in later firmware updates, yet the sound of it running does.
The Ex Tele Converter only knows one option when you are in FHD (2.4x) hence the reason why you only can do it on / off. When taking pictures, you can use different amounts based on your aspect ratio - see page 151 in the manual. It shouldnt be blurry at all, at least that I cant confirm that.

Although nowadays GH5 and 5d 4k raw () are getting most of our attention, my partner GX80 doesnt let me down. Nothing special, yet another festival recap. This time however, I started getting used to color masks to remove the orange/green tint. Not perfect yet, plenty of room for improvement. Tell me what you think:

I don't know how many people use Auto focus on cameras for shooting anything. We shot a short film on a Canon 80D. The focus is pretty good. But in low light, close distance focus and when no individual is in the frame (or someone walks into an empty frame), the focus jump and the ability to figure out who to focus on is a joke.
The problem is not so much of whether is can focus accurately or whether there is any focus jump. The problem is there are many conditions under which a camera with auto focus is just a joke, and can never replace a human being. And the fact that a lot of it is absolutely unpredictable.
IMHO while dual pixel and all that marketing jargon sounds great, the fact that algorithm are far from great right now, means, that the hit and miss rate is huge.
Samsung Smartphones (and much smaller sensor cameras), have far better focus locking on subjects, and yet those too have their limitations.
I posted it here because I am genuinely curious to see whether someone actually shot an entire short film, documentary,  wedding or music video, or corporate work etc on Auto focus on a camera with dual pixel (canon) or something like an A6300 or even A6500. I think users' exaggerated claims have kind of pushed the facts into the realm of dreams. People say things more for effect than for their actual worth.

It's good stuff and very positive for cameras like the GH5.
The frenzy of speculation as usual comes from a lot of lazy internet journalism where sites like 43rumors look at one word in one article at Nikkei and base the headline on it, when a bit of research back just 2 months would have found the managers at Panasonic explaining in depth exactly what was planned! Ridiculous!

I guess well-informed indie filmmakers would know that Panasonic makes some of the best low budget indie filmmaking cameras for the buck. And that one of Panasonic's worst problems stems around bad sales, due to poor marketing and terrible after sales (not in all countries, but in many). Add to this, the fact that they haven't Specifically targeted capturing India and China for their enormous potential and one can pretty much understand the state of affairs of their camera division. Which quite honestly, is bad for the low budget Indie Filmmaking Community as a whole.
Now it appears Panasonic is restructuring it's camera division and retrenching people from the camera division and absorbing whoecer is left, elsewhere.
("Three other businesses units -- digital cameras, private branch exchange telephone systems and optical disk drives -- will be dismantled. Each will be scaled back and placed under the umbrella of other operations, with headcount to be reduced.")
IMHO this is just bad timing, considering that people were predicting that the GH5 would break the 60,000 units camera annual sales record of the GH4 at its peak.
While this doesn't mean that Panasonic would be shutting down its Camera Division, it just is very bad timing, especially considering that the GH5 is around any moment (early units have already been shipped and users are very happy with them), and buying nay lose confidence.
I think Panasonic needs to Clarify and Pacify customers who have bought into the system and many others who are hoping to pick up some great low budget indie filmmaking gear. Also they need to get SERIOUS with their marketing regarding the audience for their cameras.

As I am not interested at all at full frame photography and have 3 X1.5 crop cameras from 20-28megapixels (28mgpxls is enough to do some serious cropping) and various lenses from 1.4f to whatever, the camera that can really benefit my job efficiency and workflow, it could only be a Canon C100markIII (or similar).
One of the reasons this camera isn't out yet, and instead the C300markII/C700 and even the XC15 are, is because Canon has to see what GH5 is capable of, because a lot of people won't pay a C line premium for a camera doing 1/5 of the things a 2000$ mirrorless can! Now, I just hope that C100 can do 3,5/5ths of the Panasonic, and add some of the Canon goodies, such Dual Pixel AF/ergonomics/battery/Canon color science and video file optimization (Canon Voodoo, really).
It is interesting thought, Panasonic, AGAIN, pushes the industry a bit further, and 2000$ for such a modern camera, that works reliably, is a bargain.

Glad you were able to get your GH5 earlier than expected. It's a downright shame that Panavision has failed to recognize your many years covering their cameras. The quality of your analysis and the size of your audience surely deserved a pre-production loaner. Hopefully one day you will get the recognition you deserve from the good people at Panavision.
I am salivating at the prospect of getting my hands on a GH5 myself. I've put in a request with my bosses to get a GH5 and a G85 as well as a couple of new lenses. A few of the features I am excited about are the 10 bit high bitrate video images, the new stabilizer, and the focus stacking for macro stills. The stabilized video is probably the number one thing for me. We have a big Ronin gimbal but it's mainly for our Red Epic, and reconfiguring it for a smaller camera is quite a chore. Near-gimbal quality always at the ready is very exciting prospect indeed.
Looking forward to reading about your impressions of the camera. Keep up the good work!

Wow that would damn near be BMPCC range. Hmm, that would be cool if it were. But I find that a bit hard to believe.  My Af100A is really only 10.1 to maybe 10.5 stops. That would be a Big improvement in a pretty short time, new sensor or not..
But I guess we will find out soon enough, be lots of tests checking it.

Indeed. Seems to be still unavailable in Switzerland. Would have gone and bought one today to use on this weekend on a city trip (leaving tomorrow morning), now I'll wait and see the independent user reviews first.
Germany is available, when I checked earlier there was even two kits left on Amazon Germany.

Some cinematographer made a video of the Canon 5D Mark ii in 2008 or something where he lied about its low light capabilites and actually used lights (I believe shadows or reflections of light sources were visible in the frame, something similar to the Stabiliser seen on the Yi 4k+ cam video lately and some smartphone photo shots of various manufacturers). Was that Shane Hurlbut?

I had the chance to use the GH5 too, here in India. It does have a much better designed menu and a few really interesting features.
Unfortunately most people don't know enough about Panasonic Cameras in India, and the company doesn't seem to care about thier camera division. They would rather concentrate on the TVs and Air Conditioners.

Everyone has opinions and everyone has their degrees of being right and wrong. On morality, technicality, articulating things etc etc.
It's great that you can proudly say that you didn't give in to the greed of money, and that, unlike most blogs and sites that deal with independent filmmaking and gear reviews, you aren't saleable and no amount of money or fame can compromise your viewpoints.
I guess one of the reasons the whole Cinema5D article about the GH5 is blowing up into their face, is because their credibility is not even remotely acceptable right now. People have started wondering why they even review products, if they have such obvious brands they are more favourable or faithful towards. Also, if a reviewer, in general, has any level of credibility.
What everyone likes about EOSHD, is that you're incorruptible. Something your peers of the blog variety cannot claim.
