THE VICTORY OF CONCRETE would be the correct English way. But I guess you are referring to the Buildings and Roads being constructed of concrete? Concrete also can refer to a rock solid idea or effort etc..

1 - battery door does not flop open. I just removed it as it serves no purpose.
2 - Not had any battery sticking issues and was just pointing out a possible reason for it with other users.
3 - Maybe just my body as it's not been reported by others
4 - Battery life is not rubbish and It's just as expected.
    5 - Barrel distortion on M43 lenses - that's a Panasonic and Olympus fault.
6 - All screens are unusable outside without a shade unless they are very high nit
7 - Don't need to add a 1tb drive as I already have one and it was less than £200  and BTW a 1TB T5 is about £250 which is cheap, cheap storage compared to V90 SDXC or Cfast.
    8  Cage - nah
9 - Add on power - already have it with an Atomos Powerstation.
    10 - Monitor - already have one
So yes it is a £1000 cinema camera (FFS) as I haven't spent a penny more on it an it's ready to go. (once I make a screen shade)
Now how about your suggestions for a £1500 camera.....
More batteries - yes if you have a higher nit screen you will need them.
No idea what others are saying about infinity issues but that's not a design feature you need to pay for is it?
In camera lens distortion correction means substandard resampling as it's speed over quality so I'd rather do it afterwards. Not a feature I'd pay for in a 'cinema camera.'
EVF - articulated I suppose well that would be nice but the cost will be significant.
Articulated screen - yes. Bright = more battery drain and heat
Raise the price to £1500 - i.e give them away. I reckon £3000 easy for that spec and 2-3 years away.

I do get there should be better quality control for many things on this camera, and it's far from 'perfect'. But a lot of these comments, not just from Andrew seem quite nit picky. For example, complaining you need expensive media is a result of having such a big codec. If you don't want the codec, there's other options with cheaper media. If you want RAW and ProRes out of the camera, expensive media is the price you have to pay.  That said, as soon as BRAW hits, this whole issue is out the window.
Same with the M43 lens distortion, if you're buying this for the an unprocessed image from the sensor, don't complain that it's not been processed. Granted, for ProRes recordings it could be nice, but then people would complain the ProRes looks so different form the RAW. I like that they're almost indistinguishable until you hit heavy grades.
Andrew, you mention the battery door in almost every comment about this camera, but as far as I know, only 1 person here has had an issue with it, and it was solved by BMD or the reseller quickly. It just doesn't seem to be an issue, just one faulty unit.
Then adding cages and monitors - that's 100% optional and is far from a requirement to make it work.
Anyway, I don't wish to rant or persuade people one way or the other about this camera. I'm enjoying using it, I'm enjoying editing it, and I'm enjoying riging it up and stripping it down.

It is a very good offer. The quibble is with their marketing.
How come they sell thousands of cameras with this thread, yet they didn't send a camera for the guy who owns the site? They should send one for free, as gift. Their marketing is a disaster.

You say you are independent and you are aside the brands;  and by on the other hand you desperately want to be includes in the inner circle of the big brands, to count on you, almost to read your mind: If you wanted to review the camara before the release, perhaps (and only if BM wants) they could let you one IF YOU WROTE THEM BEFORE.
John Brawley has nofhing to do with what you have patheticly and publicly exposed here. You have attacked him with no reason. He shows much more empathy and respect and humildity to his coleagues than you do, little dictator.

Hey, long time reader. First time poster.
I just want to say, I think it's important to note that attacks on @John Brawley are kind of pointless. I think he has said several times that he doesn't work for Black Magic Design, and isn't affiliated with them. I think when JB said he managed to test out the camera, he was given strict parameters to test with. So i really don't understand where the expectation is for JB to apoligize on behalf of BMD comes from. I also don't understand why he credibility is attacked. If people are disappointed with BMD for not inviting them to a preview, that's understandable, I'm not quite sure that means that half the industry are asskissers looking for self-promotion.
If Andrew not getting invited to a camera preview is how people decide not to get the camera, then that's their right. Doesn't make any sense to me. But everyone can make up their own minds.

It sounds like you’re threatened by this camera so you’re making sure you point out any and all shortcomings you can. Isn’t sissy a bit emotional ? You’re reaching.
Some people will be happy with 10bit 422 as their maximum image quality as long as they have a tilt able screen and autofocus.
Most serious image makers know that 12bit raw and 10 bit ProRes for half the price trumps the MILC features you’re desperately trying to remind everyone your precious GH5s has. Mostly because “filmmakers” don’t tend to use those features anyway. I don’t use AF.  But I shoot narrative drama.  What I need isn’t what others need.
For the majority, they will prefer the utility of the form factor, longer battery life, AF and IBIS on the GH5 and will find the bare minimum for serious work 400Mbps codec to be good enough.
People who care about image fidelity will likely prefer what a Pocket 2 produces side by side and will also decide that they can work around the shortcomings that pertain to the way they work.
The same way others will prefer to work around the shortcomings of a lower bit depth more compressed and sub sampled image because other features are important to them.
On board batteries on an Alexa mini on my last show were lasting about 40 mins by the way.  I guess you’re calling me a sissy.
    JB
EDIT  by the way, I don’t think it’s at all appropriate to use sissy, a word that means effeminate man or homosexual. Maybe you want to change that.

icarrere reacted to Robert Collins in How Many Stops of Dynamic Range Needed for Cinematic Look?
Taking a look at the Yedlin footage what seems interesting is how little dynamic range is in the 'final output' when compared to how much dynamic range is in the scene.

Note the limited DR in the histogram.
The footage is also very desaturated. (The camera angle and limited color gamut also seems cinematic.)
Take a vaguely similar shot with a digital camera. Straight out of camera it looks something like this... (A7r3)
Note that this has bags more dynamic range - it fills the entire histogram and the colors are much more saturated. And that it looks 'digital'
However, if you make a tonal adjustment (see below) which compresses the dynamic range - see histogram and tone curve (by raising the blacks and lowering the whites). And reduce the saturation (see below), the photo appears more cinematic...

So my feeling is having quite a low dynamic range in your final output is quite key to a cinematic look. Of course you can achieve that with a high dynamic range scene given enough processing leeway (either in camera or post.) Or alternatively, you could achieve it with an iphone given enough additional lighting equipment I would imagine.

Hi Aaron, the 50mm exhibits quite a lot of distortions as well, and it is more noticiable as the main actor is the city and its buildings. The stablilization in camera doesn´t play well with anamorphics together and doesn't help. But I like a lot your skills (all the other related things were the tools), the colour you've done and the shoots in general, the composition, your eye.

icarrere reacted to hyalinejim in Improving GH5 colour - comparison with 5D3 RAW
I've been using 5D3 Magic Lantern RAW for a few years now and it's my personal gold standard for image quality as I'm very familiar with it, can predict the results I'll get in various situations and have developed my own look that I like using in post. I do a lot of documentary and corporate stuff and wanted to do more handheld, so I got the GH5 for its IBIS, 10bit V-Log, 4K and general ease of use. Although the GH5's colour is an improvement on its predecessors, the 5D3 is nicer looking to me. So I wanted to see if I could tweak the GH5's VLog colour to be more similar to the colour I get from Magic Lantern Cinelog-C, processed via Adobe Camera Raw (other debayering workflows will give different results).
I shot a chart with both cameras, extracted the squares and put them side by side in Resolve. V-Log on the left, ML on the right:

I used Hue v Hue and Hue v Sat to line up the signal on the vectorscope:

Here you can see the effect of this correction. This is accurately white balanced V-Log (default colour) with a curve and saturation added:

And here's the same shot with the colour correction applied:

Skin goes from green-ish to pink-ish. Reds become more saturated, blues are pulled back. Foliage separates out into varying shades of yellow to green to blue-sh green, rather than being one big block of pure green. So next, I wanted to test this by comparing the same shots to Magic Lantern RAW. Would this correction really turn my GH5 into a handheld and more usable version of my 5D3?
I stuck the GH5 on top of the 5D3. I shot the 5D3 at 3520 x 1320 (the maximum resolution I can get that's both continuous and at a sensible aspect ratio) - this has a crop factor of 1.63x. ISO was 100, and aperture at f5.6 on the Canon 24-105. The GH5 was 10 bit V-Log, Cinema 4K, ISO 400, aperture f4 (roughly equivalent) on the Leica 12-60. I used shutter speed to control exposure, so motion blur is different between shots. It seems like the GH5 has around 0.66 stops more info in the highlights at the same exposure as the 5D, so I shot it one stop over to maximise DR.

First I corrected the 5D shots to the way I wanted them to look. Then I tried to get the GH5 to match. It's not a perfect match by any means, there are individual hues that tend to go awry a little, especially in the first shot. But for me the exercise is a success: the GH5 footage looks more like Canon Magic Lantern than it would straight out of the camera. And I would be happy to intercut the two, or to use the GH5 in situations that are more suited to its features. The take home message is that V-Log has a lot of grading potential - you're not necessarily stuck with Panasonic's colours on this camera.
A nice surprise for me was how much detail is in the 3.5K 5D files compared to Cinema 4K GH5, especially when sharpened. However, it's not very practical to shoot in its high resolution modes at the moment, due to the slow refresh rate of the LCD preview.
If you want to check out the files yourself, here are a series of matched pairs of 5D DNGs, and GH5 V-Log TIFFS.

Both of these are an Iscorama pre-36 on a 5D2. Still going strong these days with the Isco for documentaries on ML5D3.
It requires a measured approach to shooting. Not good for when you need to change lenses quickly in order to get the shot.

The reason why Trump won is because Hillary Clinton and the democratic party tried to force their will on the American public. They stacked the deck against Bernie Sanders and basically cheated him out of the nomination. They then continued to use all of their connections to try and stack the deck against Trump- getting debate questions beforehand, getting sent articles and news reports for editing from the media, etc... If it had not been for wikileaks exposing all of this we probably never would have none what they were trying to do. The DNC, Clinton, and their connections int the media tried to supplant Clinton as president. It wasn't about what the people wanted it was about what they wanted. In doing so they had a canidate who is one of the most corrupt and hated polititans out there. Looking for someone to protest, someone to blame, look no further than the Democratic party. They tried to force Hillary on us, they failed and this is the result.
