I'm quite a fan of Potato Jet - he's clearly a nice guy and also a working commercial videographer (although he readily admits that his YT activities take up more and more of his time). His really strong kit recommendations tend to be for items he finds useful for his commercial work (and the Arri Alexa thing was fairly jokey - although he still has the beast standing on a tripod in his studio). Similar to him are the guys at Epic Light Media, who intersperse gear videos with lighting tutorials and flights of preposterous fancy.
A YouTuber who is much more focused on actual film making is, of course, Rob Ellis, whose videos about lighting, composition and colour are excellent.
Personally I find Gerald dry as dust and twice as boring.

Need Blackmagic Assist for BRAW though.

A few members have reported that the RTX3080 can edit the files from Canon. Your 10bit question was a bit vague though, there's a big difference in editing 10bit 4:2:0 footage which is what everyone but Canon offers vs. Canon who only outputs 10bit 4:2:2.
For 4:2:0 footage nearly any modern card will do, I'm using an RTX2080Ti to edit my S5 10 bit 4:2:0 footage. This same setup couldn't even playback 4:2:2 10 bit footage from the Canon R6.

IMO PP has been hot garbage for many years....the day they started charging a monthly subscription fee was the day they went into the dumpster for me. I switched to Davinci Resolve and it was the best thing I have done in a long time. DR 17 is definitely the best version yet and it just keeps getting better. Once they improve the performance of Fusion it will truly have no equal in my book.

Yeah no way it'll be internal. That would be nice though. Panasonic should develop their own RAWlite or some kind of battery grip type recorder.

I'm going to cheer if Panasonic gives the S1 a firmware update to use BRAW, even if it's just externally.

Rumor has it that the S1/S1R/S5 will be getting a firmware update next week adding BRAW output from the HDMI port. That to me puts the S line even higher up the list as the best hybrid cameras on the market right now. I'd love to have BRAW out of the USB C port a la the Pocket line though.

@Sage I'm still absolutely loving this LUT, and it just keeps getting better and better!

I use it for pretty much every single project I shoot, S1 for A-cam and GH5 for b-cam, but lately, combined with anamorphic and pro res raw, it has felt extra tasty. I just love what it does to greens, especially. These screenshots are some standouts from the past couple weeks. Thanks for all your hard work! I recommend your Alexa LUT to all my lumix-shooting friends 👌🏻

Yeah, I've been building a basic set of Minoltas for awhile now and I swear by them. They never let me down.
Heck, one of the more memorable films I've seen this year (Identifying Features) was almost entirely shot on a set of vintage Minolta Rokkors!
And if there's one thing that every review I've read has in common with this film, it's that the cinematography is gorgeous.

I love them so much and still keep an eye out to finish my set. What really impressed me was how good they are wide open and overall how sharp they are without being too sharp like a lot of modern lenses are. I think I paid $90 shipped for the Rokkor-X 50mm f1.4 and it saddens me that the days of finding deals like that are long gone! 😂

Damned good glass and best ever for the money.
One of my favourite posts about this:

The later A-mount Minolta autofocus stuff ain't bad either. They really were pioneering trailblazers in the 80s, with lenses like the 35mm F1.4 G

I love my Rokkors and when I bought them they had arguably the best cost for quality ratio out there. FD prices had taken off, but Rokkors hadn't. The Rokkor X 50mm 1.4 stands up to some Leica lenses I've used, for instance.

It´s easy to second that. Best bang for buck regarding image quality. Would love to try out a Sigma FP due to its form factor but S1 is a technical marvel.
Yesterday I visited a friend of mine. He used to work in a hotel in Berlin, which has been sold to investors so they can turn it into an office building. He has been working there for ten years. The hotel received financial aid from the state because of Covid and was able to maintain a small profit. Despite that it was sold and with it all labor of love and the stories and memories. So we roamed the rooms and floors and exiting sights. I filmed with a bargain zoom lens, which I bought for around ten EU I think, a Unitor 35 to 70, very soft when wide open in bright sunlight conditions and at longer distances. Still love that lens for its built and character. Shot in VLOG 10bit 25p with high shutter speeds.
So here it goes, my lil poem, "Hotel Farewell", filmed with my S1 yesterday. Hope you enjoy. cheers

I'm more and more pleased with this camera all the time. I recently purchased the 1.5x aivascope anamorphic adapter (amber flare) and, paired with my trusty Helios 44-2, a little black pro mist, and of course that thick V-Log image, this little Easter Weekend run-and-gun lens test I shot last week felt effortlessly cinematic:
(this was even before the big firmware 2.0 update, so now I'm even more excited to try out some of the new anamorphic ibis modes and especially that 6k, 3:2 open-gate/full sensor mode.)
Also: 12-bit, 5.9k anamorphic Pro Res Raw, anyone?! 🤯
The S1 is going for like $1500 used these days. Absolutely incredible what it's capable of. The best bang-for-buck in the camera world right now 👌🏻

Not surprised - as an owner of a G85, I know it's a great camera for the money (and size/weight) but when I bought a G9 I realised what I'd been missing...

    Funny story...
At its release, the S5 was a MORE CAPABLE video camera than the S1.
But with recent firmware updates - if you get an S1 with the V-log upgrade pack - the S1 is more capable than the S5.
My S5 is my everyday work camera (for stills and video).
I am tempted to sell my S1 and get another S5, but the fact the S1 has unlimited 10-internal recording and how has 6k Internal means that I will probably keep it for at least a while. The 6K internal appeals for re-framing shots in post. I rarely "get things right in camera" so the leeway to re-frame in post is really tempting.

Glad to hear that! I'm hoping Panasonic eventually bring BRAW to the S1 and S5 too, but in the meantime I'm sure I'll be satisfied with the internal codecs the S1 now has. It's a total quantum leap from my trusty G85 that I've been using for the last three years.

    You won't be disappointed!
It sits nicely alongside my S1H in person and on the timeline.
But I gotta say, I had a friend send me some BRAW from the S1H, and I think I may start cheating on ProRes RAW! 😄

Too late for me now, I just pushed the button on a used S1H.
Makes more sense in regard to pairing up with an S5, - both hybrid use, but about 90% video with the S1H and about 90% stills with the S5 with the lenses being interchangeable.
I think even if Panny comes out with a GH6 later this year, for me specific requirements, it wouldn't make as much sense to use two different formats.
I'd still like to see what it could be if it ever appears though...

    It's finally arrived.
First impressions, - I really like it, - the size and weight. On my S5 with Smallrig baseplate, it's a moderate weight (a good thing as in not too light) but compact set up and when I think back to my old DSLR Nikon D3S with 24-70mm f2.8... it's a huge amount smaller and lighter and far more capable for stills, never mind video.
1/8th mist going on and then I'll be putting it's through it's paces soon enough.
I can't at this stage see the 24-105mm f4 being here for much longer...

Panasonic cameras don't come with good Rec709 conversions by their own manufacturer. Especially Gen 5 Film Extended is much superior over any Rec709 conversion Panasonic provides.
But all the color issues mentioned derive from that very problem and can be fixed with third-party conversions like these:
Color between both systems is an almost 100% match.

Canon may be pumping out cameras and lenses at an insane rate and will continue to do so. And Sony even more. And Nikon ups their game next week. And Fuji next year and...on and on and on it goes.
Simple bottom line is what do YOU need and what has anyone else got to offer that your current set up is not offering?
By the sounds of it, you are looking at the cost of an S5 vs the cost the of a C70, albeit switching the roles of your cameras around a bit.
Then let's say you get the C70 and S1H became your B cam, you'd tell yourself it would make more sense to swap the S1H for a Canon R6. And change all your glass.
    What do you NEED?
Your needs will be different to mine as they will to the next person and so on, but for this kind of thing, I write a drop down list on the left side of the page in regards to my needs and then simply either put a check mark if I have that need covered or write in the potential options if I have not.
Then I ask myself are the potential options actual quantifiable and justifiable needs, or just wants?
Such as 4k 60p. Do you actually need it or is 1080 more than good enough? IBIS, need it or are you always on a tripod or gimbal because then it'e worthless. Autofocus. Need or not? 10 billion dot viewfinder when you only use the back of the screen? Sony A7Siii I am looking at you.
I don't care what anyone else is doing. My neighbour has a Ferrari. I have a Skoda estate. Good luck sleeping in your Ferrari overnight in the mountains ready for an early morning shoot because I have one of the back seats down, a platform, an air mattress, a 4 season sleeping bag, pillow, plugin coolbox, gas cooker, table, chair... but the Ferrari can do 0-60 in 3.2 seconds which is like 4k raw for an hour or something. Who gives a shit if you don't NEED it.
Actually my neighbour has an SUV but for demonstration purposes 😉
