I've been shooting a feature using mostly just the internal batteries. We've used plug in power a few times when shooting inside. But overall it wasn't bad at all. For narrative I really wouldn't mind just going with internal batteries.

That said we used a smallHD monitor the entire time and that was really helpful for shooting at different angles. In fact a small HD monitor (or andycine) can power the camera and monitor at the same time with Sony NPF batteries. Probably the best solution for quick shooting.

Making a feature is easier than you might think these days. Wrapping one next Saturday at 11 days of shooting with a 5 man crew.

I would probably give the Pocket 4k camera of the year, as it really gives a cinema quality image at a next to nothing price point and really all you need is a cheap monitor to get you a really usable relatively small camera.
The 5D MK3 still gives a very unique image at a really love cost and of course 12 bit RAW. You'd probably like the Pocket 4k/6k mercer, though it would force you into a 4k/6k workflow if you want RAW without cropping. I think you'd prefer the Canon look though, at least over the Pocket 4k.

If his macbook worked fine for him he doesn't nessesarily need a big update. A used one that was a gen or two after his would work fine and probably save him a lot of cash.

Great looking footage. The GH4 has a 2.3x crop in 4k

The Nikon Z6 seems to be the best option right now for 10 bit and auto focus, of course you need an atomos which is a pain in the ass. Until the new Canon DX comes out, though it'll be a lot of money I am sure. Of course there is Fuji if you aren't set on full frame.

Seems pretty decent in Andrews test. I forgot though that you can't use continuous auto focus with Nlog. 10 bit in the flat profile is probably really nice though.

There is an S1 on ebay right now for under $1600 from the UK. A guy on the DVXuser forum was going to sell me one for $1600, but I ended up staying with my fuji.

Decided to do a quick test with my newly acquired GH5.

I am pretty happy with how its doing in these difficult lighting situations. I am also really happy with the GH5 up to 3200 iso, which I was often hitting. I am not a big fan of the Minolta 50mm 1.4. It may just be my copy but the sharpness isn't great until 2.8. I guess thats ok but I've heard people say it is one of the sharpest lens in its class even wide open. Must be a bad/old copy.

I really like Paul Leeming's creative luts as well. The East German LUT and faded film are really nice I think.

I think the Mavic 2 pro is fine for professional work. Probably depends on the shot of course but I think you get away with a lot with drones as you don't have to worry about skintones or anything like that. I've seen stuff shot on the Mavic Pro 1 that look good.

The last firmware I believe. I recall watching videos on it. For whatever reason they didn't do the S1H fix at the same time.

At this point in time Vlog on the S1 is superior as they got rid of the ghosting issue at higher ISO's as well as the color clipping issue with blue lights.

You can adapt manual MFT lenses to E Mount

And E mount can support up to FF, while MFT can support up to S35

The RF Mount was a perfect choice, I think. That variable ND adapter alone is a huge boost to any RF-mount camera, not to mention the new Metabones speedbooster. EF mount is pretty frustrating after you've used the E-Mount or MFT mount, RF-Mount or L-Mount (really any mirrorless mount). So much easier to adapt lenses and all of the designs are more modern and the RF lenses in particular are vastly superior to their EF counterparts.
After 2020, I think Canon will have the finest lineup of mirrorless lenses available - at least with a couple revolutionary lenses like their 28-70mm f2 and their new 70-200mm f2.8.  But they really need to get a strong lineup of high-quality f1.8 and f2 lenses going (like the Zeiss Batis or Loxia). They definitely rolled out the PRO lenses first, so I'm guessing we'll see some more compact primes and zooms in 2020.

The time it takes to support the S and update the 5 will be a *very strong indicator of how efficiently I am able to support new cameras. If I can do it in weeks, that will be a very positive sign for the S1/H, Ursa, XT3

I've been using the Pixel on set which is 220w, definitely has some fan noise but its not bad. I wonder how much worse it is on the Godox and neewer. I may just get one along with a 60w. I like throwing light in through windows so it could be used for that if nothing else

Yeah, Curtis Judd reviewed the Godox 200w recently and the fan noise was a complaint he had.
It seems that replacing the fans has caused increased flickering in a lot of these lights.
People complained about the 60w's fan noise but unless your mic is like right on top of it I can't see (or hear!) how it's a problem. I love the light though, it was a lot brighter than I was expecting.

The CFAST cards suck, an SSD would be way better. Still a pretty compelling camera.

Its the time to be alive for Indie filmmakers.

Cheap high quality audio equipment is also abound. The Zoom F6 has so much dynamic range its almost impossible to set the levels wrong all in something smaller than a loaf of bread.

High powered high CRI LED's are also becoming affordable. The Pixel video light has a similar output to a 1500w fresnel and its only $450.
