Rumor says they will keep DFD tech with no DPAF. Why on earth would they do that?
If this camera has high mpx + GH5 video specs like 4K60P and 10 bit, it's going to be an absolute killer. But if they keep their shitty AF well it's going to be the dealbreaker. Dont do that Panasonic, dont be so dumb.

I have one more thought about the camera industry - the camera industry is a mess.
The following is an example using Canon (yes fish in a barrel) but much the same applies to the other companies.
So imagine you are a new ILC camera purchaser and you want your first camera to be a Canon. What do you buy? And exactly what camera are they trying to sell you?
You hear that Canon makes excellent DSLRs and lenses. Great but this looks to be 'old tech' that is gradually going to be on the way out. Not something you should sensibly buy into now as it isnt likely to have great resale value.
So the future is 'mirrorless'? But which should I buy the EOS-M or the EOS-R? Well EOS-M is cheaper and has more lenses. But is Canon going to develop it further now that it has the EOS-R? Or is it another dead end? It is not as though EOS-M and EOS-R are compatible with one another in any shape or form?
So it seems that EOS-R is the future so this is the one I should buy? But I am not sure its ready. It says it has 4k but it doesnt really. It says it has slow motion 120p but without focus. And what lenses should I buy? 3 out of 4 of the new lenses weigh more than the camera. 2 out of 4 of the lenses cost more than the camera. Oh so I am supposed to buy the old legacy dslr lenses and use them on my new camera via way of 'an adapter'? I know Canon wants to sell me an adapter - they have just launched 3!!
So all in all what I see is Canon offering a bewildering array of options that for most customers will simply be 'too confusing' to buy into. They will most likely decide to 'just wait it out'.
And much the same can be said about other manufacturers. Panasonic's foray in FF devaluing the future of M43? Nikon devaluing the future of its DSLRs with the Z range? So surely Sony and Fuji will benefit from this confusion? Not at all. When Sony had the monopoly in FF mirrorless it was an easy switch but Nikon and Canon have muddied the waters, they have done enough to stop the tide of switchers without making a convincing case for their own mirrorless.
I dont see things turning out well for the camera industry in general...

Here are a few thoughts on the Mavic 2 after a week or so of use. Mostly points that I have found that dont seem to get much mention in the youtube stuff.
    1) There has been no firmware update so far for Crystalsky monitors, so you cant use the Crystalsky with the Mavic 2 yet. Pretty disappointing for an expensive accessory.
    2) For some inexplicable reason DJI has removed quite a lot of the intelligent flight modes that were on the original Mavic Pro. The two that I used a lot - Course Lock (great for panning) and Waypoints are both gone.
    3) Theoretically you can pan the camera from left to right (unlike the Mavic Pro) but in practice this has fairly limited practical use because the props get in your shot.
    4) So you are likely to shoot quite a lot of video while flying left or right which is fine apart from the side obstacle sensors dont work (unless in intelligent flight mode or tripod mode.)
    5) The DLog-M 10 bit h.265 profile is a huge step up from the Mavic Pro and is great in post. Unfortunately, the footage in DLog has horrendous lens distortion. Its easy to fix in post but rendering h.265 is pretty slow. (I am wondering whether it is best to transcode first for Premiere Pro.)
    6) I like the 2.7k 60p footage. It is FOV and I assume pixel binned - so isnt the most detailed - however the 60p really helps smooth out the footage.
    7) I never used 'autoexposure' with the Mavic Pro because of exposure flicker but I havent noticed any with the Mavic 2 when shooting shutter priority.

Full FOV 4K is actually 2.7K upscaled, as the IMX183 sensor can either do full 5.5K readout or 2.7K readout, the Ambarella chip obviously cannot handle 5.5K supersampling.
    See Table 3 Readout mode:

Had it been an APSC camera the lenses would have been smaller and cheaper. The camera would have been smaller and cheaper too. I’m sure the video from the R looks fantastic but it doesn’t make sense as a hybrid camera to have that kind of crop. I mostly take stills and I always try to learn to visualise my focal lengths before raising the camera. That’s near impossible if my 50mm is no longer a 50mm when I switch to video. If I would buy the R I would use it as a 1080p camera only, for full sensor read out.

Havent tried HLG yet but have some good footage with it. DLog-M is pretty sweet though. The problem I face is that it is in the middle of the rainy season here and the light is overcast and flat so that I havent had some decent light/DR to really test the video yet.
I have been trying the hyperlapse mode but tend to find the camera movement too fast and dont see a way of slowing down the drone - this rather uninspiring hyperlapse was slowed to 40% in post (quite probably user error.)

Robert Collins reacted to Andrew Reid in Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K
    Thanks Karim
And Dan, yes webrunner is right. It's a cultish following around the Pocket camera.
For example, I understand that Facebook targets each post to a subset of my followers on the EOSHD Facebook Page, depending on the subject. It's automatic, I don't have any control over it. But a lot of pitchforks came out for me today on Facebook which confused me because EOSHD supporters, followers and friends don't usually behave like that.... I know why this time was different, because Facebook had targeted a Blackmagic article at the Blackmagic hardcore fanatics and they didn't like what I had to say.
As for typical BM roll out, yes it is. Trade shows have less meaning to everybody outside the bubble. Most customers don't want to be teased for half a year or even more before they can get the damn camera in their hands. Blackmagic should stop syncing their announcements to NAB and instead put the announcement out a week before they start shipping.
The irony is, here I am feeling upset about being passed over for a camera in my hands... with a hardcore of Blackmagic users saying "what a crybaby EOSHD is" when at the last few camera launches, those very same people were moaning about not having a camera in their hands, because it's late or whatever.
At the end of the day, I reflect on the course this thread just took and I regret it. I stand by my hurt over the camera and snub, but I regret what's happened. Take what you read from everyone on forums with a pinch of salt including even yourself whilst saying it! And including me. I am not myself on the internet sometimes, nobody is. The internet is a weird simulation which is causing issues in real society across the globe all the time. It's not real life, it's a machine-assisted facsimile of it. John Brawley and I would not have behaved the same in real life. The internet is an argument generator and a distorted mirror and I might indeed have to shortly go to the pub and have a stiff drink.

Maybe I am missing something but why not simply export your LR settings as a LUT from LR and then use that with the Eterna LUT in Premiere Pro.

Robert Collins got a reaction from Inazuma in 4 way battle - rating the chances of Panasonic vs Canon vs Nikon vs Sony full frame mirrorless systems
The problem I have with Panasonic going full frame is that I think Panasonic's very success in video is down to the competitive advantage they enjoy by using a 'smaller sensor'. The M43 sensor size brings a lot of advantages to video - better ibis, faster frame rates, more bit depth, higher bit rates and lower cost - than can be achieved with a bigger sensor. And of course they enjoy the widest and most mature, native lens lineup of any mirrorless system.
I just dont see what they bring to the table in FF mirrorless especially against 3 'big players'. They may have lots of experience but that still hasnt prevented them from having woefully uncompetitive video autofocus (even with a small sensor.) I think Panasonic has been taking a lot of missteps recently - not capitalizing on their competitive advantage (by removing ibis from the GH5s) (or handing the update for the LX100 to the teaboy to do over lunch) and not resolving their weaknesses (as in sorting out their video autofocus). I suspect this will be another stumble....
They may prove me wrong - a full frame LX100 with a Leica fast zoom - now that would be innovative and different....

Robert Collins reacted to Trek of Joy in 4 way battle - rating the chances of Panasonic vs Canon vs Nikon vs Sony full frame mirrorless systems
IMO, there's only one way for a Panasonic FF camera to gain any traction - use the EF mount and essentially make a FF GH5. With a new mount, stills shooters aren't going to touch this camera for years (assuming they bring out a full lens lineup) and video shooters willing to buy into a new mount are a small subset of users - and Panasonic is already a smaller niche brand anyway. Panasonic going FF with a new mount is certainly going to be the odd-man out. Especially if they keep trying (and failing) to convince people that DFD is better than a hybrid AF system. A EF GH5 would be appealing to the video crowd and it would be a useful addition to a Canon shooters kit. Release it with 24 and 45 mp sensors to differentiate it from Canon offerings they'd be on to something. Without a massive lens catalog like CaNikon's combined 250 million lenses in the wild that can be adapted to their new mirrorless bodies, I really don't see how Panasonic is going to compete with anything stills oriented from Canon, Nikon and Sony - and that's still the driving force in ILC sales.
Then there's Canon - given they still don't have a BSI sensor and so far haven't been able to make significant gains with readout times, I'd expect the crop and rolling shutter to be every bit as bad as current models. They're still a generation or two behind Sony. Its obvious with the RF leaks, they're focusing on their strengths - lenses. Its also an interesting conundrum with three separate mounts in a declining market - how much do they commit to EF and EOS-m lenses going forward? Plus there's no seamless move from M to RF. What happens when they bring a APS-c camera in the R line with no crop lenses? This is what you'd call some really poor product planning. The R mount makes a lot of sense, but if you want to go smaller with Canon you're using two mounts with incompatible lenses.
Its only one camera, but the R is a lukewarm release at best. Canon is now protecting their cinema line AND their upper tier of DSLR's. There's no compelling reason for a Canon shooter to add a R to their kit, you would be buying a mirrorless just for the sake of buying a mirrorless, it really offers nothing over a 5d4. They've years to map out their mirrorless strategy, the RF mount makes the M mount look like a colossal misstep. And they're now the only mirrorless without a IBIS body.
Many here pan the Nikon Z's, but they got a lot more right than Canon. The bodies are a compelling alternative to their DSLR's and offer features not found in any other Nikon body. At least if you're buying a Z6/7, you're bringing something new to your kit beyond a EVF. That's not the case with the R.
Its going to take awhile for CaNikon to gain significant traction, but at the moment Nikon looks better positioned to make waves in mirrorless compared to Canon.

And here's one of my favs of this baby to rivalry with Pocket 4K the title of 'product of the year' IMHO:
Two tips for the best outcome to extract from these birds...
    As @Robert Collins has wisely hinted up there, go soft blurring your footage @post towards the right balance as much as necessary (use PotPlayer + Ctrl / R to preview the whole thing for this last sample as you wish) and don't throw away the chance coming already from the previous first generation going along with tap to focus to pair and mitigate the issue;
    from minute 3:45 on:
(you'll see how non-sense the sharpness mantra can be; strictly under a very meaningful cinematic perspectve when it is where the unexpurgated frugal concept of beauty itself rises and stands -- funny and pretty ignorant times we're living in : P)

Dont agree at all. The first one is massively 'oversharpened'. You can tell because 'sharpening' increases contrast at the 'edges' within an image. Oversharpening results in halos and the first image has halos in spades (or in the case of the playing card - diamonds.) This sort of sharpening results in horrible motion artifacts.
