Theh could still produce a lot of expensive high quality lenses for MFT if only they wanted. F1.7-2 zooms, 1.0 primes with AF, more wide angle stuff, etc.

I think I'd probably prefer to buy a €2000 GH6 and continue to use my compatible glass than spend €2000 on an S5 and have to faff about with lens options from scratch.
I'm almost perfectly happy with EF glass and a Speedbooster XL which makes the 2x crop of M43 a 1.28x instead. That is a very sweet spot if you need to go wide or if you need narrow DOF. Then if I need reach or more DOF I can swap that out for a non-speedboosted adapter. This makes for a very versatile system.

I guess we'll have to just agree to disagree.
Meanwhile films will be shot on mirrorless cameras and cine cameras all over.
A cell phone from 2010 can look cinematic if lit and composed well.
But modern 10 bit mirrorless cameras have closed the gap imo.
For big productions with a need for all the fancy stuff the big cameras are perfect. But for low budget indie films or films shot in tight places a mirrorless cam is capable.
There was a horror feature film shot on the a7sii a few years back. I saw it in theaters and couldn't even tell.
I remember when the hollywood movie act of valor was almost shot entirely on canon 5ds? That was because of their form factor.
I could tell they were a bit less capable, but honestly nobody else with me could tell.
But again, that's a canon 5d. Modern mirrorless cameras are MUCH better.

I have been wondering about this for a while. I realised, from the various publications and blog posts, that almost everyone has gotten the exact specs of the GH5s (and the GH5) Sensor Wrong. It is actually a smaller sensor to the GH5, (21.63mm vs 21.77mm diagnal, or about 0.64% smaller based on the diagonal measurements, or about 10.1% according the absolute chip sizes of both, which though could be to accommodate more functions). That's why the increase in pixel size seems, curiously. too small (4.63µm vs 3.30µm), for something with almost 1/2 the MP count (10MP vs 20MP). Also, the GH5s sensor is a lot more rectangle, as compared to the GH5 sensor, which is more square. Plus, the stated MP count on the GH5s is also incorrect on the data sheet, because it only measures them according to the various aspect ratios, and conveniently doesn't mention the absolute pixel count of the sensor, and there is greater wastage in the various aspect ratios, for maximum photo or resolution. The BMPCC4k has an effective sensor area of 18.96mm x 10mm, so it has a crop very similar to the GH5s in the DCI 4k ratio. so the low light advantage of the GH5s (and the PC4k) seems mostly to do with the fabrication, quad pixel(?), and newer sensor technology. Otherwise if the sensor was the same size or larger, the pixels would have been larger than the 40% increased from the GH5. I am also curious to know what the maximum width of the M43 mount sensor can be, before the corners start getting unacceptably soft.
Basically, what all this means, in layman's language, is that based solely on the sensor technology available right now, there is still a lot of juice left in M43.

About Super35/Aps-c sensor - I would vote for that or at least they could make 2 GH6 modifications with normal m43 and enhanced S35 sensor. I'd probably buy a whole set of Sigma primes for m43 (16, 30, 56) and they would all work as S35 glass. There is plenty of other 0.95 manual glass that was designed for APS-C, I want that too.
Also there is an army of GH5 fans who love Panasonic for their features and ergo and waiting for GH6 to be announced to make their decesisions.

No need to wish! Last year a Panasonic rep I met (you'd recognize him from YouTube interviews on some pretty popular channels) legit told me, while showing off a then still in pre-production S1h at a local camera store, that panny employees do in fact frequently read EOSHD and other industry sites, not just for fun but actually as a part of their job, in order to follow discussion on their products and gauge consumer reaction.
I even made a joke that I wanted his job, since I browse camera forums all day anyway, I'd love to get paid for it.

That would be a trully interesting and innovative m43 camera if they dare to put S35 sensor in there and deliver an option to tune the image circle for every lens (and remember it).

The more I think about it the more I really like the idea of the GH6 going to some kind of multi-aspect sensor format like the JVC LS300 .  It would silence the haters who think m43 is going to die, and would open up opportunities to shoot super 35 with adapted lenses.  They could also expand the m43 spec to cover the s35 sensor area with a tweak to the name like "Micro Four Thirds Plus" or "Cinema", etc.  So some lenses are m43 and some are labelled m43+.
In regards to Kye's concern about a reduced resolution for people who just want to shoot m43, I ran some numbers using a 3.33 µm pixel pitch which is the GH5's pixel size and came up with the following at various image sizes:
    Super 35 (24.89 x 18.66mm):   7474 x 5603 or 42 mpix APS-C (23.6 x 15.7mm):             7,087 x 4715  or 33 mpix Academy 35: (21.95 x 16mm):  6592 x 4804 or 32 mpix DCI m43 like GH5s (19.26 x 10.2mm): 5784 x 3063 or 18 mpix standard m43 (17.3 x 13mm):   5196 x 3907 or 20 mpix m43 square (17.3 x 17.3mm):    5196 x 5196 or 27 mpix If Panasonic were to reduce the pixel pitch just a hair to 3.24 µm they could actually hit 8k in super 35 while slightly increasing all the other resolutions:
Super 35 (24.89 x 18.66mm):   7682 x 5759 or 44 mpix standard m43 (17.3 x 13mm):  5340 x 4012 or 21 mpix I could also see them not going all the way up to true Super 35 and just topping out at the APS-C size for cost or heat reasons.  But, with a slightly greater reduction in pixel pitch, they could offer 8k in APSC and ~6k in m43.
If they had an easy way to swap between the various sensor sizes and could deliver 10 bit 24fps in 8k Super 35 and 120 fps in 4k m43  with a variety of frame rates in between in the way Red camera's work, they'd have a very interesting camera.
This would also give them a good reason to charge $2000 for the camera on release as I can't see Panasonic interested in launching a GH6 for less than they launched the GH5.

    Hey Andrew,

I understand your rage at Canon and I have been following your posts a lot lately. But I think you should approach this differently. I am worried that because you and others are 'demanding' canon to respond, this might cause a retaliation from the company. The retaliation could be to fix any kind of hacks that we are finding out about or to simply not respond at all.

I believe a more civil "babying" approach would be better for both parties. I would personally not want you to kiss Canon's ass, but the whole "f-- canon and the corporation" approach is a bit extreme in my opinion and would not inspire the company to change.

Instead we would need to rally to the only thing that companies listen to. Money. A boycott, or delay in purchasing, or whatever is powerful. The best way to make them listen is if they are losing money. Of course that would be hard to organize, but it would be more effective than raging.

Just my 2 cents. Not sure if you have the connections, but YouTubers are a powerful voice for camera reviews sales. If you could inspire them to bash the overheating limits on youtube then I'm sure it will shake up something. Just like how everyone bashed canon for removing 24p from the eosRP.

What's the point of having RF mount with Canon having only FF lenses on it? They need to make a FF version of this camera and it would be pretty sweet. Especially if they add PDAF and IBIS from R5/6.
Though with adapter I could use my trusty Sigma 18-35 with it.

Am I the only one who got buffled by a A7S3 US vs Europe price tag difference? Its 3500 vs 5000$ if we do the conversion, a 43% difference! Are they out of their fuckin minds? Yes, I know that the US price doesn't inculde taxes, but they are not even remotly close to 43%.

I feel like the GH6 could do well if it matches the A7s3 specs, plus all Panasonic's usual high end video features and full Vlog. That plus a much lower $1500 price point, it would definitely have an audience. A lot of vloggers love Pana IBIS, if they could just get their AF together they'd get a pretty good share of that market I'd guess.

All these recent cameras are great but they all have close to $4000 price tags.

Put everything in context. This is a fantastic release from Sony. They improved almost everything from the A7SII and kept the spirit of the A7S camera intact.

One thing is for sure, it’s a FUCKING SHITSHOW.
    What do Canon do?
Are they actually even doing anything or is there more hype over this controversy on this particular forum bubble than there is in the rest of the inter-world?
I would respect Canon enormously if they put up their hand and said, “yup, we fucked up here. Stick with us and it may not be until 2021, but both the R5 and R6 are going to get some heat management updates”.
OK, the Sonyloverboys will be all over that as will a lot of others, but so what, sometimes you just have to hold your hand up, take the flak and come out the other side stronger because really it’s ‘just’ the heat issue here that is the only problem with these cameras otherwise you’d have at least one of them would’ve you?

Are you serious? Have you followed this guy for any amount of time?!

Whats the more realistic scenario here:

    A) He's secretly sponsored by Sony for 100K (and if he was he wouldn't be buying 3 of them off the internet at retail like anybody else).

    B) He genuinely likes the camera (for the very detailed reasons he's given - as detailed as he is in all his videos).

    I'm going with B.
