Fire away, I've just seen a grown man riding a skateboard through an airport while pulling his suitcase fall off it and take out another grown man on a skateboard filming him so nothing is going to impact my bliss now.

Aren't we simultaneously having two conversations?
The P4K is way too sharp!!!  4K and modern cameras aren't cinematic, the Alexa / older BM cameras are all lower res and have magic. The P4K is way too soft!!!!  BRAW is clearly inferior because it smooths fine detail. Not to mention conversations in other threads that also include:
Who needs 4K - 1080 is fine and you can't tell the difference and ...... blah blah blah 8K!!!!!! OMFG!!!!!  ??

Lookout Avid and Adobe and any other company who's name starts with "A" and that makes video editing software - Grant and Blackmagic have kicked you right in the subscription.
The 2 other leading companies that don't have to rely on video editing subscription software sales model are Apple and Blackmagic and what do they have in common?  They make a broad range for hardware products (including prosumer product - the Pocket 4k) so they can sell at volume and afford to sell their software for a one-time reasonable prices.  Apple now sells media subscription services and may someday go the subscription route for their software as well.
Potentially, that leaves Blackmagic in the future, as the only widely adopted professional video editing software company that is not forced to beg its customers for a subscription like the little kid nextdoor trying sell you magazine subscriptions to help fund school activities and when a prize in the process.
Blackmagic has my respect for not begging for my subscription each year and for making a better product than their competition.

Yeah nobody said video is easy. The big problem is it is Very hard to go out and be good at every aspect of video. My main beef is if the audio sucks in the first 20 seconds I am not watching another frame, good or bad. So what good is an Arri Alexa if you don't know shit about Microphones. I can live with goofy video longer than crappy audio.

I totally agree - just make stuff.
I am only aware of two ways to really succeed.  Get absolutely great at it or get to know a bunch of people and be great to work with.
Considering you're not physically around other people the second one is more challenging, but can still be done (youtibers collab all the time without meeting each other).  In terms of the first one, getting great, you have to find your inner voice.  The shortcut to doing this is to make lots and lots and lots of films.  I know that's not a shortcut (ha ha) but the real shortcut is that they don't have to be long, they only have to be long enough.
The person who makes a one minute film every week will learn truck-loads more than the person that makes a 52 minute film each year.  I'm assuming you're young (because of college and no car) so assuming that's the case you'll also still be trying to figure out who you are.  I'm over 40 and I figured out who I thought I was, but am now trying to get rid of some of those ideas, so I'm still at it.
Finding yourself and your voice just takes work, but the upside is that it only takes work.  If you make 100 short films then it's almost impossible not to learn a lot about yourself.  Another shortcut is to try things that make you uncomfortable and you've never tried.
Film yourself, make a musical, make a historical reenactment, make a documentary, make a mockumentary, make a fake news report, make a stop-go animation, make a film with planning and no editing, make a film with no planning and only editing, make a silent film, make a film with no music, make a film with only music, make a B&W film, make a film in hyper colour, make a film about a colour, make a film about someone you know, make a film about someone you don't know, make a film about you trying to make a film and failing, make a film about you making a film and succeeding, make a tutorial, make an abstract film about a lost sock, make a film about what it's like to be you, make a film about who you would have been if you had been someone else, make films for other people, make a film that you will never show to anyone else and have a premier with only you and then delete it afterwards, make a film for money, make a film about the people you care about and give it to them as a gift...........
Learning is accidentally doing things that are great often enough to work out how to do them on purpose.

If you want a bit of an insight into how relatively rare this camera still is in the wild, I doubled the amount of Pocket 4K cameras that were being used at the BVE Expo in London today when I got mine out of my bag.
I plonked it down on a table that Zeiss had left brochures on but abandoned to setup my app and immediately drew a crowd who thought I was an exhibitor.
Of course I did not disabuse any of them of this belief and promptly started demoing the living daylights out of my app.

Regarding the person who produced the video about returning his P4K in favor of his Micro - from a straight shooting experience, he needs to have his head examined
We've got a lot of cameras, mostly BM, and a couple of Micros, whose images I love. In fact I wrote at one tome that if BM would take the Micro cinema sensor and put into a real camera body I would buy them for three times their cost.
The Micro is the most disfunctional camera you can shoot. A simple menu change takes forever in any environment. Tiny unrecognizable buttons on tiny stripped down senor box - but what a sensor and color science. And it's that way by design. It's supposed to be a drone or special use crash cam for TV/cinema production - not an actual shooters cam.
The P4K is the exact reverse of that - perhaps the easiest small camera to use on set or in the field - a brilliant camera as far as shooting goes.
And the idea that upressing the Micro footage in Resolve is better than shooting 4K/UHD on the P4K is a real head scratcher. Just spend some time learning how to optimize the image at aquisition and then how to work with the amazingly maleable image to get the look you want.
It took very little time shooting and working in post to get the image to look like the original Pocket or Micro etc.
You can't make any of the previous BM cameras (except the UMP) look like the P4K but you can easily do the reverse if you want to learn how.

To all of those people saying they'd prefer a full frame sensor on the BM pocket 4K, surely that's overlooking one of the great advantages of m43/ XL Speedbooster combinations for film making, which is that the smaller sensor leads to improved rolling shutter artefact performance over ALL full frame cameras, which is a hugely important aspect of what I call "good video performance" or creating "a nice image."

People infer it is hard to get good outcome with the Pocket. I see exactly the opposite. No experience with it yet. The idea I get from there is that you won't need to struggle with highlights in order to have them under control. The absence of artifacts, moiré, etc. For the price too. Clean low light performance, but also pleasant filmic noise where happens. High standard codecs (let alone BRAW when will arrive) will keep away the usual 8-bit macroblocking we tend to see from low bit rate. Aside the fact you won't easily find that film-like look unless going to post with other digital acquisition tools (when not much limited to below 10-bit), count on it ; ) Not to mention all the stuff this brand has gotten us used to it. Don't tell me the price range is irrelevant... LOL ; -)
There's no other similar offer in the segment and that's nice to know. A good reason to demand top service from the manufacturer. Business policies related, as well.
    In a word, a no-brainer : -)

Not really sure what you mean by this.
Yes, I like the camera because i knew exactly what it was going to be and it has lived up to that expectation. I'm not going to hate on it because it doesn't have a tilting screen because i knew it wasn't going to have one. I'm also not going to hate on it because it doesn't have continuous AF or  IBIS because A: I don't need those features and B: I knew the camera was never going to have those features. I defend the camera against unrealistic people just because I am interested in the conversation relating to the camera and am quite dumb founded that people would find the need to get on a thread about a camera they do not want and does not meet their needs and start arguing about it.
It's like me getting on the Sony A7III thread and ranting and raving about the fact that it doesn't do RAW or 10bit. Just sillyness!
I'm trying to give people some perspective but people just want to bang on about why it doesn't have feature A or B that a mirrorless camera does have.
One of my many faults is that I have low tolerance for stupidity, and there has been so much silly talk here that I felt the need to get involved. I mean, why the hell is Resolve not free? Why is Blackmagic not giving away it's products? Seriously. Can we talk about something constructive!
I wonder if Emanuel or Dbounce works for Sony or Panasonic as they are constantly on here bashing the Pocket for not being what it was never intended to be. Why are they so intent on bashing a camera they have not interest in? Andrew has been very vocal about the X-T3 and despite years of interest in RAW, now thinks the X-T3 is the ducks nuts, does he now work for Fuji?
    So much ridiculousness....it's quite staggering.

    I don't agree with you.
There is no risk inviting me to a simple hands-on gathering with a camera and I have been to many before.
If you want to read a blog of watered-down PR-lead opinion pieces, there are plenty out there for you to follow instead.
Even the risk (of negative publicity) that comes from not inviting me to a hands-on is very low but here it has added up. It rises if the blog has 1 million views since 1 month ago and a 5 year track record of supporting Blackmagic, yet still gets passed over for a simple demo unit. Do you realize, it is a lot of hard work to keep EOSHD going? Then the risk of having your main camera tester / closest DP advisor use the forum for 2 years without acknowledging the site owner A SINGLE TIME adds a little bit as well (just shows a lack of appreciation). Giving demo units to much less known bloggers with much less expertise increases the risk of a frustrated outburst even more, on top of the above and being teased with a camera that won't ship for months. After all that, having an event in Manchester and then John's insults were the straw that broke the camel's back. So Blackmagic really only have themselves to blame if I don't like them very much as a company any more.
Best tool for the job is not the Pocket 4K for me. I'll wait for RAW from something else. I don't have an urgent need for it.
    ProRes is nice.
But as certain pros will tell you, it's not enough to just look at the specs sheet and choose a camera, the support from the company is important too as is reliability and whether or not you actually like how the company treats you.
A big reason I bought a Leica SL was because they were supportive of EOSHD. It counts for a lot. Doesn't mean to say I not going to be critical about it though, because I spent my hard earned own money on it. When I met the Leica product manager in Berlin, he was very helpful and demoed the new firmware with improved LOG. That meeting came from being critical and basically pointing out that their LOG profile was broken.

The same thing applies to Sony, I have been critical of technical aspects of their camera and they listened directly.
    See below...

Yes there is an element of PR about all of this, to try and offer a rebuttal to critical articles and to show they are listening.
But there is also an element of truth in it, that they are listening to users and representatives of users, actual shooters, not just "camera reviewers" as John Brawley puts it.
There are people out there at the camera companies that value my feedback and I am not going to stop being critical or pointing out bugs, just to please some fanboys.

This honestly doesn't reflect well on anybody, least of all yourself.  Freezing the thread for a cool-off was a good idea.  My advice (unsolicited I know!) would be to take that down for a similar period and then consider if you really want it out there.
It comes off as sour grapes, and just isn't a smart response.

    What a shame.
Who are these "deep state" BMD insiders that are here pushing an agenda ? Myself and Hook.  Who else ?  What do you guys think, there's a plot and conspiracy ?  You guys don't wat these contributions I guess ?
I'm here because I've been a member here for years and I'm on many camera forums and this is just another one I like to read and contribute to where I can.
I want to know where all the clowns that were saying on this thread that the world was going to end because BMD didn't have any footage out yet and that definitely meant something was very wrong and the shipping date would be missed.
All I've seen so far is that a planned marketing campaign by BMD that has gone off the way they intended.
They commissioned some actual filmmakers (not bloggers or camera reviewers) that make certain types of film (natural history, action sports, nature) to make some films and then they released them and the camera originals.
Then they gave some cameras, complete with some boxes as if they were new to some secondary users, and whilst having them also under NDA, got them to shoot some test footage and allowed some of them to release that footage.  Again.  Not reviewers.  Not bloggers.
About a thousand reviewers and camera jockeys have done a bunch of made up comparisons and VLOGS based on existing footage. (hey I love seeing my footage being butchered by grading nerds)
    Think about it.
No blogger or reviewer ANYWHERE has gotten a functioning camera to shoot with as far as I can tell.  Because that's not what BMD want to do with their marketing of this camera.  This isjust marketing 101.
They need people using the cameras in the many difference specific sectors of the market will use the camera.  Camera reviews aren't part of that plan. (though it hasn't stopped people doing it based on existing footage)
Until it's shipping, it's their choice to give it to whomever they want.
I'm tired of this entitled bullshit.
I recently left a few facebook groups I was on for this camera, and I'm doing the same here.  Frankly it's juvenile and I don't need the agro I sure hate explaining what should be obvious.
    There's no slight.
BMD have a marketing department and they have a plan and it doesn't involve forums, bloggers or camera reviewers.  That's not a snub, that's just them marketing the product in the way that they see fit.

Andrew, you are cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Blackmagic really don't owe you anything for any 'free publicity'. Their Pocket 4k has started a frenzy among the camera world stirring up conversation and leading people to discuss it on forums, maybe you owe Blackmagic for making your site and this thread so popular? Maybe you owe all of your forum members here for contributing all their content here  and making this site popular. Maybe you owe John Brawley for his contributions, I know I read this thread mainly because of his input and presence here...... Silly, I know, but the tantrum you seem to be throwing could also be seen as a bit silly too.
Seems like nothing really new came from the event and maybe BM didn't think you would want to do an unboxing video...?
Your reaction here only serves to diminish your character and reputation and by snubbing the camera based on you not receiving a pre prod version for testing or not being invited to one event. It might also suggest that you can be easily bought which is not what most people want out of an online reviewer.
Who knows, maybe a marketing person at BM didn't think it appropriate to invite someone who seems brand focused by being call EOSHD?
There are so many reasons why you may have not received an invite....
    Just my 2c.
