If you are recording non RAW out of the fp, it is limited to 8bit 4:2:2, which you could record in ProRes HQ on the Ninja. However because the fp does not have any flavor of log build in, I personally would rule that out. Suggest to go the RAW way therefore either Ninja V or Video Assist. In that RAW workflow it is possible to use LOG and a LUT to convert that correctly now, because (at least the Ninja V) is treating the RAW out of the fp as Panasonic V-log.
That is a matter of your personal feelings towards Blackmagic or FCPX. I have invested much more time in FCPX and did not wanted to start all over with DaVinci Resolve. So I went the Ninja V route.

Thanks for the information. Braw would be much easy for me to deal with. Shame the VA12Gs never seem to be heavily discounted, unlike the Ninja V. Ninja V also seems to support raw recording on a far wider array of cameras.

no both have the frame in magnesium but the r6 has the body in polycarbonate while the r5 has it in magnesium .. this dissipates more than the r6.

Yeah I'm still pretty upset the R6 didn't get any kind of overheating fix but at least R5 seems like a solid option now.
I'm in the US currently and there are some pretty good deals ($3,500) not to mention the second hand market.
This makes the R5 a lot more appealing than the R5C now imo since you gain IBIS, battery life etc for at least a $1000 cheaper.
Kind of a game changer I guess. Its finally the killer hybrid spec camera it was meant to be and the price is getting appealing too.

Yes and this is where for me the R5 is interesting because ditch the ND’s and crank the shutter speed to say min 1/250th and then simply pull stills.
I have tried with in both 4k 50p and 6k 25p mode with my Lumix cameras.
Pretty decent results so I can imagine what 8k stills would be like.
As a fast-paced hybrid shooter faced at any point with one or the other, it’s easy, go video because you have a chance of pulling stills from the footage but you can’t make a movie from your stills unless shooting 24/25fps!
One day I need to do an entire job of exclusively not shooting any stills but pulling it all 100% from the video.
Now it ‘does not’ overheat, that could be interesting with an R5…

LP-E6NH give me on average about 30-35 minutes of actual record time with occasional waveform and false color usage, 4K XF-AFC, Continuous AF, Lens IS. If you are running and gunning you can use the media button hack and extend standby battery life considerably probably even more if you flick the IS Off on the lens as well.

A couple of frame grabs to show the AF
R5c, AF at max speed, at 200mm at F2.8, on a gimbal with me walking fast.

Yeah! While I am still on my R5 that was bought 2 years ago lol 😆  But seems like he still have FX3? So some camera he just keep I think.
I bought R5 mainly for the no overheating on standard 4k, I don't really that 8k or 45mp, but lately on some greenscreen shot i done the 8k is quite useful for controlling spills like woman's hair or wedding veil due to high resolution.

I have the R5C and the R5 and I prefer the R5C setup over the always on IBIS in the R5 for video. At least with the RF 24-70 the OIS + EIS combo has worked amazingly well for hand held static and controlled handheld pans and tilts in my experience.
IBIS wobble is horrible. I come to really notice it and hate it.

Yeah but they have a goofy lens mount. You pretty much have to buy new lenses for them. So the initial cost is pretty steep.

I was once stalked by an emu. true story.  A mate and i were out camping on a another mates property. We'd ventured out for a morning walk and quite enjoyable it was until we heard this deep booming call. It was quite an ominous sound not the kinda sound you can easily forget and straight away you knew it was big.
It was bushy  but it opened up every ten meters or so. These birds are fast, fast as a horse. So it was pretty much, backs against the trees while we kept moving forward after about 5 mins we found a nest with green eggs in it. Never touched the eggs. Took a few photos and kept moving forward, All the time this bird kept calling out, letting us know it was there, after a ten minutes or so the sound died out and we breathed a little easier.
Not once did either of us see it. I will say my mate is a very good hunter, if he couldn't see it  then it didn't want to be seen,  I wouldn't say i was scared, i would say it was one of those times where every sense seemed condensed / focused, even time seemed to slow, not sure how the mind does it but it seems as vivid now as 25 years ago.

If you own a Mac, for around $75 you can convert Prores raw to either compressed or uncompressed CDNG. If you don’t own a Mac you can buy a cheap one. From very limited testing (I tried 1 a7siii Prores raw file) a 2014 Mac mini with a measly 1.4ghz dual core i5, integrated graphics, an SSD, and 4GB ram can slowly but surely get the job done. So if you are on windows you could probably get a way with a cheap Intel Mac and converting your files there, then moving things over to your windows PC to edit in Resolve.

I'm telling you... people that don't know are completely oblivious... people look at 8 seconds and think thats nothing. But if you are at a wedding or any other event... where candid moments are happening on the micro-second level... those 8 seconds feel like an eternity.
Those that don't know - I challenge you... you don't need to be a photographer/videographer at the event... but the next time you attend one... just pay attention... find those candid moments and just count... 1 mississippi... 2 mississippi.... all the way to 8 mississippi... then tell us that 8 seconds is nothing.

I got it! The shop I bought it received just 1 copy!! This is the second shipment and it seems that Canon send just a dozen or so for the whole country..this camera will be back ordered for a long time..Canon is giving priority to full frame production anyway.
It is interesting that Canon gives these limited copies to specialized shops and NOT to big chains at all..
The manual is 963 pages(?!), not included of course, I got the 16mm RF, an extra battery and the Canon dumb adapter as a launch gift. They run a promotion giving some reduction in price in selected lenses and varies from 75€ (50mm) to 600€ to more expensive ones. I had already ordered the 16mm, as I have other EF and EF-S lenses, but I was tempted also by the 50mm one. Is a brand new design of an old concept, seems like the best cheap 50mm in the market.
Unfortunately, I am starting an A.D job and I am reading scripts at the moment, I barely switch it on today.
2 things. It seems that zebra and focus peaking do not work together, and I couldn't find a way to zoom in to focus while recording..the second issue, if true, is a major disappointment for me..
As I said I didn't have time to search thoroughly, I took a couple of videos in glorious desert weather here (Athens, GR) and the camera did get hot a little in the touch. I will have to make some kind of test, or whatever, but it seems to me that it won't be temperature - proof as we hoped it will be.

Non of the eos camera can do punch in focus while recording, only cinema lines can do (include r5c). You always hook up to external monitor for punch in zoom while recording

That a good value of bonus you got, the place I live didn't have any pre-order bonus (cheap ass!)

Don, you are very old school, b4 and PL loving man.;) L mount is highly adaptable just like Canon RF, Nikon Z and what not mounts. Lumix S5 with full HDMI would have been my dream camera. So close. You can get them used for 1200 EUR, S1 for similar prices.
With the GH5 I discovered a nasty blotch issue in VLog again. I have almost forgotten about it. Pink large blotches on skintones f.i. It was a well exposed shot, daylight, cloudy summerday, which I did last year for a shortfilm. Yesterday I was grading some of my older stuff away and building some digital emulsions and bang, GH5 reminded me of an issue I had found years ago with caucasian skin. Had forgotten about it.

I did sell one of my two R5 and added a R5c as I posted in the other thread.
At the beginning I was not too happy about the R5c but now I like it more than the R5 other than the battery issue that basically makes it a rig only camera. And I did not buy it due to the time limit as it was not an issue for me other than 4k 120…. Initially it was for the 8k 60 and audio on the 120fps.
I filmed 5 days of MTB and 2 days of Surfing in the last two weeks, and I reach out more to the R5c (A cam) than the R5 (B cam).

They are quite different, the R5 even more with the new FW is a really good hybrid, the R5c is a cinema camera that you can turn in a great photo camera, it seems the same but when you use them both you realize the differences.

    Plus for the R5c:
    8k 60 RAW
    4k 60 much better quality than R5
4k 120 with sound and noticeably better quality than R5
    S35 5.9k RAW

XAVC much easier to edit than h265
Face only AF, AF around the point only
Cinema OS makes more sense for filming.
False color, waveform, magnification while recording etc…
Customization of what to show in which screen VF vs LCD vs HDMI, safe marks etc.
Port protector let you flip the screen
Media playback UI, I really hated at first, but I discovered how to control it with the touch screen and joystick (not the wheel as I was used) and is better that the R5. Still lacks lut support and a quicker way to delete videos imo.

    Plus for the R5
Battery, battery and battery so no need to rig it and cables that can break etc...
More AF zones type, Animal and Car AF
IBIS (although I find it a problem in some cases like on gimbal with long lenses and wobble on wide angles)
Faster switch photo video (I thought that the R5c would bother me but for my usage is non issue and I do switch quite frequently)
C1-C3 modes this is so needed on the R5c
    Bigger UI font
Wifi works in video mode too (this is ridiculous on the R5c that only works in photo mode)

AF the way I use it is very similar in term of performance some stuff are better on the R5 and some on the R5c I really wish they would merge the two functionalities.

If it would not be for the battery challenge, I would probably sell the R5 and get a second R5c.

Canon went back to its bad crippling habits. Once you have a habit it’s hard to break it. They tried breaking it, but they quit attending their EOSHD counseling sessions and went back to their old ways 😂
A real shame. I want an R5 now, but I do feel bad for all who held off on the R5 or bought the R5C because of this fake issue.
