    Tru Horizon?

I really suggest using an electronic gimbal. They are much more convenient and easy to use. The traditional steadicam type setups take forever to balance if you are new, and if you change anything on your setup you have to constantly adjust the balance etc. You can always rent a movi or something if you need to, but for 5D3 a Ronin-S should be sufficient.
  2. If you have an Nvidia GPU, there's a setting for video color range that's also really confusing in that it affects some applications but not others: 16-235 or 0-255. And if you don't set it the right way video in some applications look weird.
  3. Also better have warp stabilizer ready I had to use it on most if not all my aerial clips.
  4. I have shot from small planes before. Gimbal is a must but wind is crazy at speed and altitude, try to stay back from the door if you are going faster because of rotor wash and wind from speed. Also if your gimbal sucks at dealing with g forces (zhiyun I'm looking at you) your horizon will take like 20s to recover from change in direction. I think older dji gimbals were bad at this too. I have the ronin-s and it's better than the cranes at holding the horizon but not perfect. Ronin-s is way more useable in the air. Depending on the heli, with doors open you will likely not be allowed lens change, so keep that in mind. 24-70mm equivalent decent for landscapes, no need to go uwa as everything gets super small. Tele lens can work too for close-ups of buildings. Helis are least efficient at hovering so they probably won't want to hover very much for you. Also check the weather, haze can be suprisingly bad once you are off the ground. In my experience gimbal and ibis in plane is workable just try to keep away from the wind. There is no way these smaller gimbals are going to deal with crazy wind gusts in the air. Each vehicle has certain shots it can get and those it sucks at, talk to the pilots about what kind of shots you want beforehand. I've only used my gh5 so far for 4k60, haven't gotten around to trying a7iii yet. Good luck! It's fun! You can get way more shots than you can in a plane, but it also cost like 4x.
  5. No IBIS? Can't wait for the $5K Sony 24-70mm F2.8 Extra GM OSS... (not to mention 16-35mm)... Why didn't they just make all their lenses OSS from the start.
  6. The main advantage is size and weight and lots of people won't give that up. I wish they would work on the video afc and come up with faster lenses for shallow dof. It's so much work trying to get shallow on m43 especially if you want af. F2.8 becomes f5.6 dof... If they could get video afc plus a speedboosted techart pro type adapter (af with manual lenses) that would be amazing.
  7. My preorder never came in and I canceled after literally 2 months of waiting. Got it on aliexpress for retail price with coupons plus eBates gets you some cash back. They did take like 2 weeks before shipping but better than 2 months.
  8. I have a bunch of these padded inserts ($19): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Partition-Folding-Flexible-Padded-Camera-Lens-Insert-Bag-Dividers-Case-for-DSLR/292318664042?hash=item440f8cd56a:g:1iQAAOSwQS1Z~xXq PLano cases are good for light duty use, I put my slider, tripod, lights etc in here, no wheels though and a bit flimsy ($40): https://www.amazon.com/Plano-Sportsmans-Trunk-Black-108-Quart/dp/B00HVCPT4W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1538536359&sr=8-3&keywords=sportsman+trunk I actually use these over my Pelican 1650s because those are so heavy and overkill for what I'm doing (working by myself). I use this onstage cart to truck everything around, goes on sale for like $80 I think: https://www.amazon.com/OnStage-UTC2200-On-Stage-Utility-Cart/dp/B01KQ0X3OS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1538536449&sr=8-1&keywords=onstage+cart I have a huge rocknroller but it's pretty big so I don't end up using it too much. For light stands I was using this: https://www.amazon.com/Stage-LSB-6500-Lighting-Truss-Carry/dp/B000PGS5M4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1538536549&sr=8-1&keywords=onstage+light+stand+bag But I can't really cram too many stands in there, I just switched to a golf bag bag, we shall see how it goes. https://www.amazon.com/CaddyDaddy-Constrictor-Travel-Cover-Black/dp/B007OK866Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1538536587&sr=8-2&keywords=constrictor+golf I also have a bunch of these types of bags I put my audio gear in, you can probably find one on craiglist for like $5 as they give these out with noobie gear. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Large-Gadget-Orange-interior/dp/B00CF5OHZ2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1538536841&sr=8-3&keywords=padded+camera+bag https://www.amazon.com/Ape-Case-Digital-Camera-ACPRO1400/dp/B00079SWNQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1538536859&sr=8-5&keywords=ape+case
  9. @wolf33d Do you have a link for this? The only page I get is for the fusion camera I thought I saw it a few days ago, now I only see the fusion https://shop.gopro.com/tradeup
  10. Daaaaaaamn... I want this on all my cameras - hypersmooth
  11. I have GH5 and Sony A7III. I want to use the Sony more but the IBIS is poop compared to GH5, and I wish the codec was better. Still waiting for FF, video AF, good IBIS or OIS, good codec, 4K60p... I thought A7SIII would check all the boxes but after experiencing the Sony IBIS I highly doubt it will be much improved. Maybe Nikon will save me! In the mean time, GH5 is still no slouch for a lot of different shots, hard to beat the size of that 35-100mm!
  12. If you've done all the regular stuff (recalibrate motors, fully balanced, added lens stabilizer etc) and it's still jittery there's probably something wrong with it so send it back. No use in trying to make a broken gimbal work.
  13. @Cliff Totten Thanks for uploading
  14. I wonder when they will ship... still waiting for Ronin-S preorder...
  15. Wow, technology is crazy. Only thing missing now is the image quality, still very droney but I guess you can't get everything.
  16. If they only do 4k30 I don't think it's going to do super well but who knows. I've heard Sony gear just falls apart over time so canikon would definitely have a leg up in terms of reputation for disability and ergonomics, but just matching Sony or less isn't going to sway all the people jumping to Sony. Based on the specs these cameras are a bit underwhelming, and in terms of pricing not sure who they are going for. Bigger mount for better ibis and better color are definite draws but they really could have made a bigger splash with the pricing and 4k60.
  17. Still have Nikon Trinity (Tamron though, but they have sweet vc, never found the Nikon's to be worth it and I owned all of them) and use d750 for photos. Really hoping it competes with the Sony stuff and manages 4k60! Nikon flat was very good Not going to preorder based on the qc of last several generations of Nikon stuff (d750 is the only camera I've ever owned that has needed service, and one of mine has a sticky shuttern AFTER getting on replaced, which they refuse to fix unless I pomy up more $$$) Will definitely pick one up if it matches Sony and does 4k60! The larger mount is a very good news for Ibis, Sony is garbage compared to Panasonic in that area. Really wish they had made the emount larger for better ibis.
  18. When is mine going to ship I also picked up the adapter for $10 but haven't checked if it will fit on the Laing vest I have but never use.
  19. I actually rarely use it as dual monitor even though I thought I would, reason being that most of the time I don't need dual monitor, but when you turn the screen off you can get things still on that screen, so it's kind of annoying. I don't use eye dropper that much but I just kept zooming in until I got what I wanted, I don't remember anything being wrong with it in my setup.
  20. Well I have the LG 27UD68P-B and 4K scaling is definitely not great for some apps INCLUDING (for me) Premiere Pro. Everything in premiere pro looks ok EXCEPT for my color wheels and some other tools, like here: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2363234 https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2401093 One of the "fixes" is to set premiere to use the windows scaling, which then looks horrible and pixelated so it's not a fix at all. Adobe just refuses to fix it... everything else seems to work except a few panels. I have this monitor and my old Dell 1080p next to it. The difference is night and day in comparison. It's one of those "how did we ever live without it" first world problems. Problems have been few and far in between but really annoying when they crop up, like VLC has no scaling either and the UI is tiny and stupid.
  21. Currently the cheap ones are all about 2/3 the battery life of the OEM, but 1/4 the cost. I haven't tried any of the more expensive ones like wasabi. All of the no names on amazon.com are from the same factory, I've tried 2 so far with the exact same packaging but I'm assuming the rest are the same. Hopefully they get better soon. You can get them for under $25 each, don't pay the $30-$40 for them.
  22. It must be very early in the morning for you
