  1. I honestly think there's more to it than that, any camera can look bad. Check YT, you can find pretty crap 1DX MK II clips, especially if you watch in HD. "More" 1DX II clips might look better because if you drop $6K on a camera you probably know what you're doing, aside from the occasional user with extra cash. But with the cheaper Sony cam's, the barrier to entry is so low there are so many crap clips out there because you get lots of people that don't bother tweaking settings, they just shoot, and then pretend color grade (not that I'm the best), which YT then chews up and spits out, especially if you are not a big YT star / advertiser. I've seen some really good 1DX MK II clips and I won't knock what it can do, but for 1/3 the price the Sony can deliver some decent results as well.
  2. Nice to know I'm on the right track! So many confusing options, wish there was a "look good" setting or at least someone to do all the work for us. That being said colors looking way better!
  3. Try some "regular" settings, you might be surprised. I'm using this right now: Black Level 0 Gamma Cine4 Black Gamma - Wide Level 0 Knee Manual 80% +2 Color Mode: Pro Sat 0 Col Phase 0 Color Depth: R+5 G0 B+2 C +2 M0 Y-3 Detail -7
  4. Not sure, i just watched a YT video that showed you can't select a face to track by touching on the screen. I tried it as well, touching the screen in any of the "focus area" modes except the flex point modes just locks focus. Even if you can register it, still annoying you can't just tap a face if you are doing events. I haven't done any narrative
  5. Just got mine. Surprised by how much I miss FF and shallow DOF (don't hate). Love how much the camera does for the price. Despite the fact that you can't use HDMI with 4K AF-F face detect, face detect can't track individual faces (with many faces on screen), and no 4K60P, for the price and useable AF-C it's making me smile (so far). Shot some Cine4 with colors adjusted a bit and I think it looks pretty good TBH!
  6. No dslrs have useable video af from that generation. If you don't need af and raw, Nikon d750 and d5200(apsc) are decent. Nikon flat profile is nice. I think those are better options unless you are using magic lantern for raw. If not it doesn't really give you anything unless you need waveform. Codecs and low detail really suck now though. Good luck!
  7. If you are using a wireless lav, just get the Rode, Sony or Sennheiser stuff and go direct into cam. I use Sennheiser avx (lav or handheld) into a juicedlink box into gh5 unless it's a sit-down then I use the zoom h6. Avx has annoying 18?Ms delay but if it's your only audio source it's unnoticeable. However it's auto gain whatever magic actually works great and it's kinda set it and forget it, I only adjust the gain once on the juiced link or h6 then that's it. Admittedly in the sound comparisons I've heard, wired always sounds the best, so if you're ok with wires there's always that route. Tons of affordable used lavs around. Rode lav and Sennheiser mke2 used are pretty affordavke. Never used a tram before but those are also popular. If you are working by yourself keep it simple
  8. Decent colors (to me) here Choppy with lots of motion though.
  9. I have it. I use it occasionally. The problem for still shots is that it rests on your chest so you get breathing motion.
  10. I have it preordered We get it a month after you guys though. At least an easy band-aid is scale 101%
  11. Some videos don't have it though, so I guess it's just luck in terms of what camera you get? Or did the reviewers just get super copies...
  12. Wow that is almost GH5 level bad.
  13. Actually that is the way canon does it. Two batteries in the grip connected through the battery compartment.
  14. Well at least it's not A6500 bad...
  15. I use my gimbal with the ninebot/segway mini pro Awesome sauceeeee.
  16. There are so many tracking shots with telephoto lenses in films, I don't understand why you think they are seizure inducing... Common shots are cityscapes and Aerials as well as tracking characters. Not to mention smaller frame = lower costs (set design) Gimbal makes both of these accessible to those of us with no budget where we couldn't do this before (including interesting parallax in urban landscapes). Also the movement can be subtle (as it often is in 24p to avoid judder) so I'm not sure why you think we are swinging the camera wildly around.
  17. I've been using the senny avx due to it's convenience and haven't had any drop outs yet. Really convenient for one man band with the working auto gain. I thought the 19ms delay would be more of an issue than it turned out to be since I rarely mix the track with ambient. I have a set of the g3s but have never used it yet. Avx isn't bad at all! I think someone did a bunch of comaprisons outdoor and the senny g3 had stronger signal than the Sony but I guess in crowded environments the Sony might fare better. Battery life on receiver isn't great but you can power through microusb.
  18. I frequently use the 35-100m w gh5 on gimbal. Love those tele shots especially with motion. Which is why I keep complaining about the is on the panmy 35-100.
  19. Depending on the lens. Canon 135mm f2 is 750g + any adapter... It might work on normal gimbals since it's not super front heavy. G2x and pivot look like they can have more range of motion with longer lenses although still not as good as helix design. Considering price of them I'm willing to give it a shot when they come out. Unless they use basecam which is apparently a nightmare to work with.
  20. I suggest waiting to see if the tilta g2x and ikan pivot are any good. Both around $700. What camera / lenses? The problem with the traditional design is you can't balance longer lenses even if it supports the weight, the angled is a step in the right direction but a compromise, still better than nothing though. Someone that's not letus needs to put roll axis first so we can do long lenses! If you don't have long lenses to balance then crane plus is a good deal, I think on eBay for $450 right now.
  21. I think I'm going to preorder this. Hopefully a7siii will come through with 4k60. Really looking forward to useable afc, full frame, and lowlight performance! Monster specs for the price. If the photos match the d750 I can sell those too... Keeping the gh5 for 4k60 until Sony does it. Why won't Panasonic fix the 35-100... Been watching eBay for good deals on Sony gm lenses, just missing the 24-70 and I'm set. Then need to get the new tilta g2x or ikan pivot.
  22. Actually this looks like the Crane "3" Or Crane 2 v2... the Ikan Pivot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5mtiWjLHKw
  23. Tilta g2x looks interesting too. I need something for 70-200mm and I was looking at letus helix, but if the g2x can do it I might just get that. Waiting for reviews...
  24. Why not the Tamron or sigma 150-600mm? The V1 Tamron was getting pretty cheap, I think they're going for like $500 USD used
