We really need two official R5 and R6 sticky topics. We have like 4 threads going with almost the exact same title discussing same things,

I'm not sure what people expected from a 4k $ camera that the main target are photographers. I bet that 90% of the sales goes to people that mostly do photo and just a bit of video.
So let see how many cameras can do 4k 120 fps with AF:
    -C300 III  (11k $)
    -R5 (4k $)
How many cameras can do 4k FF with or without AF:
    - R5
    How many 8k RAW:
    -RED
    - R5
    8k with AF
    - R5
At the moment nothing else on the market at any price not even for 100k $, I see the silly comparison with phones etc... but this is the first FF 4k 120fps ever and is kind of affordable.
So yes it has 15min limit at 4k 120fps but I take that instead of the alternatives that does not exist. Maybe A7S III but if it has 12mpix is a video only device imo.
People should get real, of course with the limitation is not a camera for everybody and is not even a camera target only at filmmaker (Cxx are) so it does not fit you need just move on but saying that is crippled etc.... is just silly. No photographer wants a camera with fan and as the main target are photographers they did not put a fan on it as they have dedicated C line with fan for the long takes scenarios.

I do mostly sport and action and have the 1Dx III, I normally need two cameras (for remote) and adding a R5 is almost a no brainer as is a great remote camera at 12 or 20fps, small and with a bonus 45mpix where I can crop a lot if needed (example ice hockey net cam) and give me more lightweight on gimbal and 4k 120fps with AF that for sport/action is really cool. If you would do long interview or very long take I would buy something else.
I will wait the more real world reviews and also to be able to play with the files 8k RAW and non and 4k oversampled and binned to real see with my eyes how is the quality and then probably buy one.

My biggest wish would be that they were opengate as it would be even better for pulling pictures something that I do a lot out of the 5.5k raw of the 1Dx III, 8k opengate would be really good for me.

Yeah it happens a lot that I film slow mo but play some clips real time and then need the audio. Also sometimes I use the audio in real time over the slowmo video (for background sounds like water and so on)

    The R5 will only overheat in 8K, 4K60p & 4K HQ.
It shouldn't have any problems in regular 4K24p/30p.
Calling it unusable is a little extreme. What other hybrid camera can even approach these specs? 8K/4K120p FF no crop, DPAF2, RAW, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal.
Besides we've had 30mn recording limits for years due to EU laws. Hardly an issue for me personally..
That said, if Sony can do better, bring it on!

It didn't surprise me, they wouldn't put the eggs in the same basket : ) It's a specialised tool IMHO, the most advanced hybrid tool so far and not exactly a cinema camera as we're used to see : -)
Better than the use of a smartphone from a tiny sensor size without question... Or is there anyone to disagree here? ; -)

What about enviromental temperature, yes in the desert you will overheat quickly,  this does not mean it will overheat in a siberian winter too.
This should be tested in realworld environments to see how bad it is

Problem is that he is not recording so all the canon has histogram but goas away while you record a video. 1Dx III does it would be cool if it finally stays on.... at least this one has zebra

Have to say I see the high data rate of the 4K 120fps as a positive. It's 4X the bitrate of 24p, which is exactly what it should be if it's going to look as good. I'd be complaining if it was less!
When looking at the table, the data for 4 minutes of recording time looks huge but then that's actually 16+ minutes of footage.
Personally I only shoot short clips in 120p anyway. Though the fact DPAF works in 120p means it'll be an absolute killer gimbal camera and that'll mean people wanting to do long takes.

Canon is obviously going after enthusiasts/amateurs with these new lenses, smaller, lighter and cheaper outside of the 100-500. The first lenses were fast primes and the zoom trinity with the 28-70 halo zoom, the only budget lens was the 35 macro. People complained about the lack of a pro level body or budget lenses, now with the R5/R6 they have that base covered and a few cheaper primes. I'm sure their research shows a demand, otherwise why develop these lenses at all?
IMO they will sell well, rumored price is about $1000 for each. There are plenty of people that want reach and aren't serious enough to pay $12,000 for a single lens. Lots of amateur birders and wildlife shooters, parents shooting kids sports and so on. Those long lenses combined with TC's the punch-in capability of 8k will turn the R5 into a telescope. I don't shoot wildlife enough to justify that kind of purchase, but I see a ton of birds, dolphins, gators and turtles while out shooting landscapes that a 70-200 with TC can't reach.
I looked at renting in South Africa, but I didn't want to do a round trip to return it as I went from SA to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Plus a 600mm would have doubled my pack size. So I find the small 600/800 lenses appealing, I bet lots will too. As always YMMV.

From the full lens lineup image its definitely retractable. Given the body + lens weights I disagree about anything m43 being competitive, not with a 45-mp sensor behind the Canon lens, compared to 20mp max on m43, and the rumored high rez R body in the pipeline widens that gap even further. And these can take the 1.4x and 2x TC's that will be announced. Between the cropping ability and the TC's, this is an amazing amount of reach for such a small package. I spent a few months in Africa exploring wildlife parks, this would have been in my pack if available. Plus f/11 AF, the R5 will focus in much lower light. Personally I find the 100-500 with TC's more interesting. But a hand holdable 800mm lens, amazing.

    I know I will get flamed 😂

But to be fair he is pointing out that they will get a camera to test the RS and DR as they do with many cameras. Until it is done and published is just a fate thing but at least it seems there is the intention.
It could be that without you this would not have happened so you have a point, although the RS was not measured by you but by slashcam.
You also mention that you don't see a RS issue with the GFX 100 and yet it seems to have a RS of 28ms (all to be validate by multiple source ideally)...... somebody could argue the same no?
You did not measure RS on the GFX 100, he did not on the 1Dx III. Other have done it, you trust some others trust others etc..

There are not many site left that really test RS and DR and yes we can argue for hours that the tests are not perfect but as they have some consistency is better than nothing.

We should glad that there is some kind of "conflict/competition"  between you guys as it pushes you to really check all the details.....  😉

    This is interesting and useful.
It shows you how Resolve can render the colour grading up to a certain node, but not beyond it.
So for example, if your node tree started with a Deflicker (great for timelapses), then NR, then a Motion Blur (for fake 180 shutter!) then you could render these three nodes into a cache but then grade normally after these and unless you go back and adjust one of them it wouldn't need to re-render that cache.
I've never heard about this before, so thought it was worth sharing.

Market is shrinking massively and will continue so, too many players. This is the first of many to come... covid probably will just accelerate this.

Pro market and serious hobbits are the only markets that will exist and are much smaller than consumer one.

In Resolve on a 8GB VRam gpu with 5.5k raw is no problem on a 4k dci timeline but on a 5.5k timeline sometime I get gpu out of memory so I need to be more carful on the nodes.... 8k timeline could be problematic with 8GB Vram with just basic nodes.
I use above 4k timeline to pull pictures and to save a master if I don’t want to keep the original raws to save storage. So not a big issue for me but worth to mentioning.

Yep both Nvidia and Intel QuickSync currently they don’t support h265 4:2:2.... Nvidia 20xx platform can do 4:2:0 and 4:4:4 but not yet 4:2:2
Hopefully with more camera using it they will improve.
I’m sure even software only the NLE could optimize more.
On windows / resolve a i7-9900k can do it software only.

You don't lose light as if you lose 2 stop of light then the image will be underexposed by two stop at the same settings ss, aperture and iso between oversampling vs line skipping/binning.  If you are oversampling or line skipping the gain on the sensor is the same and so is the aperture and ss for that exposure.
In theory you can get more noise with line skipping/binning as oversampling masks some of the noise but at pixel level the noise is exactly the same.
On the 1Dx III 1080 FF 120fps binned is for sure not more noisier than 5.5k FF at pixel level, of course if you scale done the 5.5k is sharper and less noisy. So I expect the R5 to be similar  but who knows

On  tracking/panning fast object at 1/50 24fps you will not see rolling shutter because the motion blur will hide the RS issue. I track mtb at  (200-400 +1.4) 560mm and I have zero problem with RS. Is really unstable platform or back and forth movements that shows up. I have more problem on a horse show jumping parkour as you move back and forth and  the obstacles as they are vertical they tend to be bended....
