I don't recall if it was added in Resolve 18 or 19 but with the new feature you don't need to grab the still.

It works in edit and color page, File -> Export -> Export Current Frame as Still (I have mapped to F4). What is great it keeps the folder selection and the file format but you can change it at anytime, the file name will use timeline name + a time code as default.

So what I do is spacebar for play/pause, left or right arrow to select the best frame, hit F4 and Enter to save. Much faster that the old Still Grab process.

It is since many years that I take stills out of the video instead of taking pictures, this is why I’m shooting mostly in 8k RAW.

I use Resolve, remapped the F4 key to export still, I first grade for the video, copy the timeline so I can do some tweaking to the grade still by still, if I like the result, I hit F4 and export the jpg, if I want to do a complete different edit I export as a tiff and edit in camera RAW. I normally do a quick pass in camera RAW to do the cropping as in Resolve is a pita as you would need to change the timeline resolution.

It would be cool to have an AI tool that finds the good ones especially when I use the 180 rules that finds the one with the no motion blur on the face. Right now, is a bit of a tedious move forward/backward.

It’s unfortunate that AI has such a weird issue generating hands as it would be ideal for the camera to also create something that looked more natural when it is doing the selfie stick removal.
Aa it stands everyone is walking round in these videos looking like a 1970s Action Man with the gripping hands.

Its an impressive camera though all the same.

R5 II RAW CLog2 is a better image than R5c RAW CLog2. Imo on the R5c CLog2 does not really give you anything more than Clog3 other than matching to other Clog2 cameras.

It wasn't me testing out SRAW, I'm a big fan of 8k so I never used SRAW and probably will not if future, but if they would add SRAW for 4k 120 fps and 2k 240fps then I will be super happy.

For my usage (sports, actions) the AF is a quantum leap compared to both R5 and R5c but if you do more "normal" stuff not sure it makes such a difference.

I really only miss the WFM on/off but happy to trade this with the C1, C2 and C3 that is such a time saver for me especially for going from normal to HFR. I do miss a bit but not a big issue peaking while AF on.... as it helps me judging if the AF is doing his work. The movie playback on the R5c is also a bit nicer but are really small details.

If you shoot RAW the R5c battery is still miserable as also when you are not shooting is consuming the same amount. Just one recurring example, Ice Hockey match, camera is on for 1.5h in 3x30min periods and I record around 10-12 min per period, R5 II I have 50% battery left, R5c I need to change battery at least once.

Is the R5 II better than the R5c, for my use absolutely. Is it worth the difference in price used R5c vs new R5 II? It is a harder question to answer as the R5c is very capable and now at a good price and with the new battery it solves the biggest issue that I had.

Since the FW update mine works flawlessly, no issue at all. Since the new FW I shoot 3 horse showjumping competitions, two MTB events and 11 Pro Ice Hockey matches and not a single glitch.
I finally received my second R5 II (it took two months here in Switzerland to get it 😮) and sold my beloved R5c.

Now please Canon just add a way to turn Waveform on and off with a button!!!!!

This is wired I used exactly the same d-tap adapter for 2 years with my R5c and never had this 90 second issue, is just immediate. I use it with FXLION Nano One batteries.

Never the less Canon should do an official dtap dummy batter that mimics the EP-E6P.

I now moved to two R5II but if I would still be having a R5c I would simply move to EP-E6P and for really long stuff use the USB-C.

PS: it is great that Canon made the R5c work with the new battery it really removes the biggest issue I had with the camera.

Last week I shot two ice hockey matches and a horse endurance race. Shot mostly 8k 25 and 50 RAW and some 10bit 2k 200fps. I did not have any issue with black/green screen, but I never had it in RAW.
As I film the hockey matches in the same arena so same lighting and similar situations, I can confirm that AF is better than R5 and R5c and the image quality too, it is less noisy, and I find it easier to expose. The AWB I feel the R5c is better but as I mostly shot RAW it does not really matter.
I'm exposing the highlight to just barely pass the last top row of the WFM and it seems to be working well in most of my scenarios. Now Canon please add a button to show and hide WFM!!
Battery life in 8k 25 is about the same as the R5 and much better than the R5c.
At 8k 50 I shoot around 30 min of footage with the camera on, continuously AF and IS  (no standby) for around 1.5h with 1 battery and still had juice left.
In 8k 50 it will eventually overheat, for the endurance race (under the sun at 25c) I did longer takes like 5-10 min each and the overheating warning was at 2 out 10. Is the only occurrence so far that the warning came out but most of my takes are below 5 min.
I got scared because a couple of times the brightness of the EVF did change while shooting, the recorded video was normal with no brightness change, then I realized that I did disable auto brightness of the LCD but not for the EVF.... rookie mistake.
I did a quick test at 14mm and the IBIS wobbling is much improved over the R5, where it was not usable imo... I need to do some more tests as I did only by standing still and panning (fast and slow) but no walking/running yet.
I'm starting to consider replacing my beloved R5c with a second R5 II, for my usage the only two things that I would really miss from the R5c on the R5 II are: peaking during AF (less needed as the R5 II AF is better) and no overheating.

The biggest improvement over the R5c is AF, battery life, DR (noise, highlights and easy to expose), 2k 240fps, c1-c3, IBIS (although I'm sure there will be occurrences that I wish it did have full locked system)

It seems that your first one had some hw issue on top of the bugs.

I tested IBIS with the old FW at 14mm (IS lens) and 16mm (no IS lens) handheld fast panning, slow panning, tilting and twisting and I could not see the same wobble issue that the R5 had. If is still there very much improved.

Since updating to the new FW I have shot 2 more hockey matches and 1 additional show jumping competition, and I did not encounter any issue.
I will be selling my R5c for a second R5 II as soon as I find one in stock that here in Switzerland seems impossible to find.

I can confirm that the AF, battery life and the image quality vs R5c the R5 II is definitely better.
Just now I was editing a video that I shot with both R5 II and R5c both in RAW and the image of R5 II is just better and can take more beating in post.

One thing that is not super is the auto WB, the R5c is more consistent.
Frame grab 8k 50, ISO 4000, no noise reduction, shot through a Plexiglas...

The two quick fixes that they should do is offering a battery grip that allows 8k 50/60 basically solving the battery issue and re-enable video in photo mode (why not give user the choice? They could even have a custom function that you can enable and disable video mode in photo).

If you don't use 8k50/60 the battery grip makes it more useable, I use mine a lot in 8k 50 RAW so I have the V-Mount battery with USB-PD mounted over the cage. Not great but the only other camera than can do 8k RAW 50/60 is the Nikon Z9 or REDs...

But we are really off topic this should belong on the R5c thread and not the R6 II one.

Other than gt3rs' actual real-world experience with the R5 II, this is all nonsense anyway.  It is based entirely on pixel peeping crap from internet reviewers.  I'll stick with "if you love the R1 so very much, you should get in the preorder line and enjoy shooting it when it's released."
Otherwise, beyond some chat about specs, it's really worth waiting for the camera to get into the hands of real users.  Then the truth will be understood.
As for me, I'm going to guess that we'll see a lot more owner-operators and documentary crews running around with C80's and C400's than we will see them using R1's.  The R1 will likely be a niche camera, used primarily by sports photographers.

Number game interpretations. For RAW with no processing you should compare to the max DR possible so it would be 14.9 vs 13.4.

The proof that in 4k Log R5II 13.6 stops of usable DR vs 12, indeed disappointing 😉

And view that you are disappointed can you point hybrid cameras with more than 13.6 stops? I believe only A1 has 0.2 more...

But again, I don't care about the numbers too much as I just open the files from both camera that I own and is definitely visible the better DR.
